J. Crew to open debut UK store

J. Crew have announced they will open their 1st UK retailer. At the presentation of the label’s Fall 2012 collection at New York Fashion Week, the company’s executive creative director Jenna Lyons confirmed reports.
“We’re looking at spaces on Regent Street. And I wouldn’t mind becoming in Covent Garden for a smaller shop. It will not be just a single store – we’re not gonna be stingy,” she mentioned.
“We have a massive British following already – our New York retailers get a lot of clients, and what we do is not really well represented in the British industry. There are really classic clothes, but they’re high finish. And women’s especially, there is not that classic tailoring but with a twist, and also colour, which we do. So from what I’ve been told we might be hopefully filling a niche.”
Fashion & Sports With Kate Mara & Erin Andrews

Badgley Mischka may be one of the most red carpet-worthy shows during New York Fashion Week, yet somehow the conversation in the front row kept veering towards sports. Kate Mara compared the Fashion Week to the Super Bowl, noting that the one major difference is that you’re much more likely to be sipping a beer at the latter. “It’s such a different vibe. The Super Bowl is a lot more laid back,” she said with a laugh, adding, “It’s a party environment—you can wear sneakers!” Nearby, sportscaster Erin Andrews—definitely not in sneakers—defended Gisele, who was caught on film responding to hecklers after hubby Tom Brady’s team lost the Super Bowl. “It’s so much more than winning and losing and who’s catching the ball and who isn’t—it’s her husband’s life and she knows how much heart and soul he put into that,” she said, looking model-esque herself as she towered over nearly everyone in her ruffled one-shoulder Badgley Mischka dress.
Both women admitted that they’ve had their fair share of fashion disasters. “When I first got hired by the Tampa Bay Lightning—I was 22 at the time—I thought The Limited was the be-all, end-all. It was like, how many times can I wear this tank top in different colors?” remembers Andrews. For Mara, it was a well-intentioned beauty experiment gone awry that plagues her to this day: “I tried wearing red lipstick once and I was too young to be wearing it. Because I’ve been acting for a long time, there are always pictures, and every time I seen one I’m like, ‘Oh that isn’t a good choice.’ But you learn, right?” Yes—and you make sure that there isn’t someone like Joan Rivers to eviscerate you on TV.

Jenny Packham’s screen sirens at New York Fashion Week Fall 2012

If you’re a fan of old Hollywood, Jenny Packham‘s Autumn / Winter collection will be proper up your street. The designer was inspired by 1940s screen sirens with her gorgeous collection of gowns and cocktail dresses.

Bias cuts featured heavily but the shoulder was the actual erogenous zone, with 1-shoulder gowns, sharp 1940s silhouettes and delicate ruffles on red satin. This is occasionwear at it is very best the models were noir femme fatales, but adequate of the clothing was soft enough to operate for fans like the Kates (Middleton and Winslet) as well as clientele with a sexier appear, like Dita Von Teese (who sat in the front row) and Angelina Jolie.
Monika Chiang Raja clutch seen on Gossip Girl, at NYFW

The Monika Chiang Raja Clutch, $ 695, has been popping up all over New York, on both the modest screen and in actual life. Above, Leighton Meester wore the clutch on Gossip Girl as Blair when departing for her sham honeymoon with Prince Louis.

Then this week the bag was spotted on style blogger Hanneli Mustaparta at Lincoln Center for New York Fashion Week. The bag is crafted of a unique whipstitched leather – chevron lacing over a reptile-embossed leather body. Even although the shape is really standard, the fun texture and hardware make it a tiny more modern day.

Day 5 of New York Fashion Week was all about chocolate brown eyes, haute hair adornments and that classic 70s trend: matching your lipstick to your nail color.
Chocolate Lids
At Imitation by Tara Subkoff, Tina Turnbow for NYX Cosmetics was inspired by Helmut Newton and Debbie Harry in the early ‘70s, utilizing various shades of brown on the lids for a bold, feminine look. Backstage at Donna Karan, the deep hue was infused with a hint of red for a cherry-chocolate effect whilst at Theyskens’ Theory, the appear was granny chic redux. James Kaliardos for MAC Cosmetics opted for a burnished bronze-like shade nodding to Elsa Schiaparelli.
Hot Hair Helpers
Hair accessories and hats were omnipresent on day fave. In the hat department, Marc Jacobs’ models sashayed down the runway in over-sized Seussian iterations in bold prints, even though tiny cabaret hats had been jauntily affixed to the models’ heads at Donna Karan. Bigger fedoras had been featured atop the Dolly Parton-inspired strands at Chris Benz. Moroccanoil’s Orlando Pita used headbands to punctuate the main volume at the crown he designed at Carolina Herrera. Aerodynamic hair ruled the runway at Preen. The style was windswept and knotted, held in location with bobby pins. Hottest of all was the bondage tape (bought at sex shops in each instances!) employed by Odile Gilbert for Kerastase behind the scenes at Rachel Zoe and by Luigi Murenu for John Frieda backstage at Zac Posen.

New Fall 2012 Shows: Marc Jacobs, Thom Browne, Chris Benz
Marc Jacobs closed day five of New York Fashion Week with a collection each dazzling and “conspicuously dull” this evening, showing artfully bulky clothes and huge furry hats you just know street style starlets are currently fighting over. Large hats would have maybe helped things at Chris Benz’s presentation earlier, as the models’ beehive-style wigs seemed to have been backcombed past the point of no return large veils added to the macabre vibe at Thom Browne’s monochromatic womenswear show — sculptural padding and a few extremely fake fur stoles. These collections, along with all of today’s other shows, are in our runway galleries, keeping you up to date with all fashion week’s goings on.
