Ride a Ferris Wheel on Fashion’s Night Out

For the first time in my career I sort of wish I could be in Beverly Hills during New York Fashion Week. That’s because the Rodeo Drive Committee has announced that nearly 55 of the street’s luxury retailers will participate in Fashion’s Night Out on Friday, September 10, 2010. And what’s more, the renowned shopping destination will boast the first ever Ferris wheel on the street. So after doing some late night shopping at Chanel, Gucci, Prada and Valentino and sipping some cocktail in between, customers who show their receipt will get a free ride for two on the Ferris wheel. How’s that for a glamourous block party? Live your Pretty Woman/ Clueless fantasy while experiencing the nostalgic wonderment of a classic carnival ride. ~Nola Weinstein

Theyskens for Theory Will Be ‘Much Higher Priced’ Than Regular Theory

Andrew Rosen and Olivier Theyskens. Aw.
Fashion isn’t supposed to make sense. Theory’s Andrew Rosen and Olivier Theyskens are aware that their collaboration won’t, at least at first. “I think everyone was surprised,” Rosen told WWD of the deal signed only two weeks ago. Though Rosen has a history of investing in young designers like rag & bone and Alice + Olivia, the industry hardly expected Theyskens, who is known for his fantastical evening gowns and insane shoes, to design for a label intended for the chic everywoman who works in an office. Yet there is sense to be made of all this.
Theirs is a romantic story, really:
Rosen said he agreed to meet Theyskens for lunch several months ago after hearing the designer was looking to branch into the contemporary segment. Afterward, the two strolled over to Theory’s flagship on Gansevoort Street in New York, where they realized they had at least one thing in common: The three little letters at the front of their respective brand names.
A bond so pure, and over a single word: the. It also makes sense that Theyskens for Theory, which will debut in September along with the spring 2011 collections at New York Fashion Week, will cost more than regular Theory.
“It’s not like selling Olivier Theyskens, the label, at a cheaper price. It really is allowing Olivier Theyskens to design. This is the only Olivier Theyskens collection that is going to be available,” he said. “It has to come from Olivier’s inspiration and from his soul. It has to be authentic, so I think some of it will be much higher priced — even than what we’re doing.”
So that romantic little story about them going to lunch and taking a nice walk through the meatpacking district may have ended with some grinning and palm rubbing. But people get into relationships for money and beauty all the time. So, bad for us, but good for them!

Video: Zac Posen Explains How to Wear the Clothes He Created for Target

Target’s New York pop-up shop for Zac Posen’s collaboration line kicks off with a 24-hour party tomorrow at 8 p.m. (481 Eighth Avenue, at 34th Street), more than a week before the line hits stores, so New York fashion director Harriett Mays Powell stopped by the designer’s downtown studio for a preview. “It’s a collection that’s about the best summer of a woman’s life,” the designer explained, while adjusting certain pieces, showing how they can be worn several different ways. Watch the video for more.

Lorenzo Martone Photoblogs Fashion Week

Oh, what good could come from such a snowy, cold day? We’re glad you asked! The kids at Refinery29 have somehow managed to get Mr. Marc Jacobs — Lorenzo Martone — to photoblog his fashion week. The snaps include shots of models at the Ruffian party, getting up close and personal with fur at Elise Øverland, a rather cute pic of Rachel Zoe laughing, and male models. Guns N’ Roses Back on the Fashion Scene — This Time, It’s Slash

You heard about Axl Rose’s performances at New York Fashion Week? Slash didn’t do him one better, but he did attend a London Fashion Week fashion party — celebrating the launch of Temperley’s “Alice by Temperley” and the release of Alice and Wonderland — last night. As you would expect, he was sporting cascading black curls, black sunglasses, and a top hat — although the latter item, in the context of the Wonderland-themed party, made him seem as much like the Mad Hatter as plain old Slash. Accompanied by a cloud of bodyguards, he chilled with a wig-topped Trinny Woodall, the British T.V. fashion critic (TLC imported her Stateside with the show Trinny and Susannah Make Over America last year). Slash told us he showed up because he’s BFF with Woodall’s husband, and actually felt wildly out of place at a fashion fête. “Look, I’m wearing jeans and a shirt,” he said. “I have no idea why I am here.” And so, five minutes later, he left.
