JANE BY DESIGN Style Challenge #6: Pretzels as Fashion Inspiration!
In the weeks leading up to the January 2012 launch of JANE BY Design, a fun new fashion-centric show on ABC Family members, a posse of us fashion & style bloggers have participated in a bunch of style challenges. So far, we have…
…shopped for something fascinating & video’d the haul (Challenge #1)
…upcycled a tee inspired by a style icon – mine is Chanel (#2)
…described the most “me” handbag in our collection (#3)
…transformed a fugly Xmas sweater-vest (#four)
…styled a plain white buttondown for a day at the office & then out for cocktails (#five)
For the subsequent challenge, we were very first asked to feel about the future of fashion & to take a appear at the globe about us and describe how it makes us really feel. How about you: how are you inspired by everyday life? A roll of tape is rumored to have inspired 1 of the most coveted “it” bags ever. What have you been inspired by that seemed ordinary but resulted in a thing unexpected, fresh & incredible? Be certain to mention it – or just speak about who your style icons are – on the Jane by Style Facebook page and do not forget to say that Fashiontribes sent you. (Also, here’s yet another sneak-peek of the JBD show to check out!). Oh, and when you tweet, be sure to use the official hashtag: #JBDStyleChallenge.

Prabal Gurung’s been appointed the new designer of International Concept Brand, or, ICB.
The line, which has been designed by Michael Kors and Viktor and Rolf in the past, halted its US distribution in 2002, but will make an anticipated return with its first Gurung designed collection at New York Fashion Week this February.
Gurung told WWD that he’s thrilled to have “the opportunity to experience the outstanding production and technology in Japan as well as the company-owned factories in Italy.” He also pointed out the benefits of working on a collection at a lower price point, “[It] provides a new perspective for me as a designer.”
Katy Perry’s New Short(er) Straight Bob And Versace White Leather Dress
Have you seen Katy Perry’s new hairdo? It’s a short bob, of an uncertain color variety. And I thought Katy’s hair was natural! I can’t seem to adjust to this new extensions fashion! I’d better do it, and quick, huh? You simply can’t know who’s having real hair and who’s on real fake hair!
Aside from Katy Perry’s new multicolored slick bob (you know, the bob again), you have to check out her white leather dress with studs from the Versace Spring Summer 2012 collection (you know there was a similar dress in the H & M Versace collection too)! It’s so… edgy. So unusual for Katy’s normal playful style! I mean.. Versace and playful just don’t go together. Do they? (Katy was all dressed up for the “Change begins within” annual event from Los Angeles, December 3rd)

In the Twilight Hour?
Written by Adele Booth
I thought about maybe using the impending Twilight film conclusion as a theme for seeking out this week’s new fashion arrivals (exploit, exploit), but then I realised how much I hate the franchise, and how little I know aesthetically of the tale itself (vampires and…lace? that’s all I got.) Saying that, Kristen Stewart looked rocking at the premiere of Breaking Dawn in L.A. last night, didn’t she?! And it is Kristen’s general ballsy and sultry look (she’s like Avril Lavigne, if only the latter had gotten to the next level)- as opposed to that boyfriend/vampire spouse of hers Robert Pattinson- which is rather growing on me now, as the entire modern phenomenon finally comes to a close. So let us love us some of them darker cocktail hues too; from navy to very berry, with subtle texture detail, and then throw over a Monsoon crochet cardigan coat to keep us on the right side of twilight. Thanks Kristen, for throwing up a bit more in the way of Autumn inspiration!

Here’s What The Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine Designed for Raise Cache, a Tech/Fashion Benefit Show You Can Attend!
We feel like the fashion industry has seen a lot of change this year and much of that change has taken place online. A plethora of new fashion-y tech start-ups have revolutionized the way we experience fashion, especially in the realms of e-commerce and social networking. While the west coast may get most of the credit for technological advances, the fashion industry lives here in New York, which is where over 75 tech start-ups will converge this Thursday for a fashion show benefit called, cleverly, Raise Cache.
Proceeds from tickets sales will benefit hackNY, which “aims to federate the next generation of hackers for the New York innovation community,” according to a release. Ticket holders even get gift bags with jewelry from chloe + isabel, beauty samples from Birchbox, silk ties from The Life Tie Project and other goodies.
A bevy of influentials (of fashion and tech scenes) will participate, including the founders of Birchbox, Rent the Runway, Of a Kind and more. Birchbox founders Katia Beauchamp and Hayley Barna, Fashism’s Ashley Granata and Brooke Moreland, Next Model’s Summer Rayne Oaks, and First Round Capital’s Phin Barnes (investor in Mod Cloth, Warby Parker, chloe + isabel) will be models for the day and walk the runway in looks provided by Leandra Medine created in collaboration with Linebyme, the proceeds of which will also go to hackNY. It’s pretty cute and something we could actually see her wearing. What do you think of the blogger’s first foray into clothing design?
New Fashion Site Motilo Launches with this COOL Multi-lingual Video!
08 November 2011 at 12:33

A new name to learn today, boys and girls – Motilo! It has already launched in beta and soon you and your friends will be able to register to this super-dooper site which, as far as we can work out, is basically like Facebook meets net-a-porter! Not only can you buy wicked womenswear from Swedish high street label Cos to high end houses like Gucci and Lanvin, as well as beauty products from Benefit to Tom Ford – BUT! You can get involved in video and text chat with your friends and top stylists, like Anna Dello Russo are on there to dole out advice (yep, you read that correctly, ANNA DELLO RUSSO! (Is it just me, or would you be a teeny bit intimidated to have your outfit critiqued by such a doyenne of high fashion as ADR? OK maybe it is!) Other bloggers include Bip Ling and Laeticia of Madamoiselle Robot.

Anyway. So far so predictable. But wait – to illustrate the point that everyone is talking about Motilo – the site teamed up with amazing model/artist linguist Elle Muliarchyk to create something with a bit of a point of difference, something that would have everyone remembering her name. It’s a montage of bright lips spouting all sorts of nonsense thanks to the brilliant and truly gorgeous Elle. This ex-model/artist cum linguist caught up with 50 of the world’s finest models earlier this year, and had them recite local tongue twisters – each with beautiful painted lips – and each in their own language. CUTE ARAMA!!
