VFB Interviews Trina Turk during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of interviewing Trina Turk, during the grand opening of the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. The runway was filled with color, from turquoise to bright yellows to gold embellishments. I absolutely loved the line. Here is my interview where she chats about her inspiration for the line, plus gives us some fashion tips and her fashion must-have.

Clothes Lamps

Have you ever considered placing your clothesline on your walls and make an illumination installation out of them? Someone did! An Italian architect and designer (Gaetano Pesce – sounds familiar? Think Melissa…) performed this rather unique installation for a restaurant.

Located in Florence, Il Cestello is the place where you’ll find clothes (which have been coated with a resin layer) pinned to a stainless steel rail lighting the night away. I’m impressed. But not as impressed as I should’ve been before reading the price tag: $6,250. Anyway, this is a lesson for anything standing in the way of your inspiration! Want to throw a party and you don’t have the right backyard lamps? How about some clothes to wash and hang here and there? (wright via psfk)

The Headgear Options Are Infinite at Victor Osborne

If there’s one trend you can really get behind this summer, it’s this: Snooki tans are out and sun-shielding hats are in. Thanks to milliner Victor Osborne’s newest shop, officially opening in Williamsburg this weekend, looking PC-cool is easier than ever. And like its large, older Lower East Side sibling, the atelier deals exclusively in Osborne’s nostalgic, handmade hats.

Drawing inspiration from Marlene Dietrich movies, architecture, and a birds’-nest-wearing great-aunt, Osborne makes all of the inventory himself. The hat forms enhancing the store’s minimalist-Victorian décor are a nod to his DIY ethos, and while the 30 hats from his spring/summer collection are available in-store (fedoras, porkpies, cloches, etc.), a large portion of the inventory is custom-made. Click ahead to see a slideshow of some of our favorite pieces from the new space.

Victor Osborne, 358 Grand St., nr. Marcy Ave., Williamsburg (718-388-8480); Friday-Sunday, noon-8.

Tim Hamilton Spring 2011

Selectism - Tim Hamilton Spring 2011

Tim Hamilton’s Spring 2011 collection has also hit the web via lookbook images. The very structured collection features waist ties which seem to work for both the ambitious and restrained dressers. “Hamilton came to a concise collection of form and utility after looking to the work of Belgian artist Michaël Borremans for inspiration. Whereas Borremans’ work was abstract in its representation of individuals, Hamilton sought to present his idealized man in a similar fashion. Deconstructing the suit and dressing it in stationary colors, the spring collection breaks with the monotony of tradition for an overall look that arrives at progressive new terms with ease.” (fashionisto)

NSF Summer 2010 Looks

Selectism - NSF Summer 2010 Looks

NSF drops their summer 2010 looks for your viewing pleasure. Some inspiration behind the season: “Inspired by Los Angeles beach living. At the intersection of surf and work life, the summer collection is relaxed and familiar. From the chinos and cut offs to the washed finishes of the plaid shirts, these are clothes that harkens back to days spent cruising the towns and beaches along PCH by bike or board, from County Line to the pier at Venice.” Go Cali!

Behold: Baby Fendi!

You know what your baby needs, and it’s not a Cynthia Rowley for Pampers diaper from Target — it’s a Fendi bib! Or whatever Fendi will make as part of its children’s line produced in partnership with Simonetta SpA. The new line for newborns to boys and girls up to 12 years old debuted at Pitti Immagine Bimbo in Florence and includes pale colors, floral prints, checks, and bucolic inspiration. You know what they say: If you’re going to drool, drool on something designer. [WWD]

Julia Restoin Roitfeld’s Daily Outfits

juliarestoinroitfeldcollage
Julia Restoin Roitfeld is probably one of the world’s coolest style icons. But when your mom is French Vogue’s editor in chief it’s no wonder. Following the sartorial choices of Carine’s chic spawn continues to provide inspiration to the fashionable set.  Apparently Vogue.co.uk shares our fascination; the site has been chronicling Julia’s outfit choices throughout the month of June with a personal style diary of sorts. Think 30 days of designers like Balmain, Alexander Wang, and  DVF, mixed with accessories from Tom Ford, Miu Miu, Cartier and Rolex.  Fusing her Parisian flair with a distinct Downtown vibe, Restoin Roitfeld is certainly one to watch.
