Diane Von Furstenberg Brings Out The Bigwigs

DVF1 Diane Von Furstenberg Brings Out The Bigwigs

Diane Von Furstenberg can confidently claim the season’s most powerful front row. It was a meeting of legendary proportions with the media elite and a slew of famous friends filling The Tent. With Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer and Anderson Cooper, all taking in the show, it’s a good thing there was no breaking news to deal with. Walters sat between her friends Oscar de la Renta and Barry Diller; she got up to embrace Sawyer and chat with Graydon Carter and Fran Lebowitz. Andy Cohen was all smiles as he took in the colorful collection. The Watch What Happens Live host wasn’t the only Bravolebrity in the room—stylist Rachel Zoe was there too. And though Molly Sims and Solange Knowles provided quotes for the celebrity weekly set, in the presence of such icons they seemed just like the rest of us.

We caught up with Katie White of the Ting Tings this morning, front row at Kevork Kiledjian. The entire Fashion Week factor wasn’t fairly what the first timer expected: “I didn’t realize that the shows were so short!” she said.

White’s perfectly happy with the additional time though, she plans on spending the weekend placing that runway inspiration to very good use. “Hopefully I’m going shopping right now, due to the fact I by no means get the opportunity in New York—normally we just do a show right here and then leave,” White explained, listing Opening Ceremony as one particular of the locations she’s planing to visit right now.

Coco Rocha Thinks Herve Leger Should Do Workout Videos

With Saturday’s snow—and freezing temperatures—you couldn’t blame a few 1st row attendees for thinking wistfully about their regular weekend routines, those sans six-inch heels and blinding flashbulbs. “I live in L.A. so I attempt to go to the beach on the weekends, and there are some excellent restaurants on the beach exactly where you can get a drink and relax—I’m extremely significantly about tuning out,” stated Louise Roe although waiting for Tibi to start off. The Television host-turned-fashion designer did manage to squeeze in some downtime ahead of the shows, checking up on her favored websites—including ELLE.com: “I saw some thing funny on your site today—I’m obsessed with loads of distinct blogs. You’ve got to be all up-to-date!”

Coco Rocha admitted at Herve Leger that she too would almost certainly be in front of her laptop or computer if she weren’t sitting in front of the runway. “A typical afternoon I’d be working on social media, just hanging out with the hubby and getting in my pajamas—something with added give,” she mentioned with a nod to her skin-tight bandage dress. In other words, no Herve? “No, not on my weekend when I’m getting brunch and sleeping in,” said Rocha, adding, “Unless he makes a pajama one day!” Inspired, Rocha tugs at her dress and continues: “I consider [Herve Leger] should do a workout video—the dress is so tight that I could do lunges, don’t you think? I’d get nice thighs! I believe we should bring back a excellent ‘80s video.”

Charlotte Ronson grows up at New York Fashion Week Fall 2012

ronson 1 Charlotte Ronson grows up at New York Fashion Week Fall 2012

Charlotte Ronson‘s popular family connections usually make sure a very good front row turnout at New York Fashion Week, but could the designer deliver to her celebrity crowd?

Surprisingly, this was a really grown-up collection, albeit with youthful, quirky touches. Knitwear was a important accomplishment – intarsia pieces had been given a neon makeover, aran jumpers got quirky assymetrical hems and hoods were everywhere (appealing in the present climate).

Much less effective were the leather pieces – a pair of tapered red leather trousers that did nothing at all for even a tall, slim model, and a cape-like sleeveless top that did not actually perform for fall. But the chiffon made up for it a gorgeous tea dress, a louche black shirt with green stripped skirt and and a excellent little green dress worn with over-knee boots.

All in all, it was a wearable, commercially viable collection, but not one particular that will be a specifically memorable fashion week moment.

Helmut Lang Fall 2012: Leather and Bloggers

Helmut Lang Fall 2012: Leather and BloggersYou either like Helmut Lang or you don’t. And if you’re in the former category (like me), you’re going to like the fall collection a whole bunch.
They’re one of those brands that when you talk about their “brand DNA” an image immediately pops up. From the spare white warehouse space to the flashy strobe light in the beginning, I knew I was at Helmut Lang.

No one does leather like Helmut Lang, and the leather jackets that Nicole and Michael Colovos showed in this collection are spectacular. A drapey leather and shearling coat was my favorite, but there were plenty of fitted moto jackets, too. The bread-and-butter crisp white and black suits were there, but *gasp* some red was introduced into the mix too. It showed up on several full looks, and was the red fur vest was another favorite look. Helmut Lang also has a way with open weave knits, and they were there a-plenty. But don’t worry about being chilly–just wrap one of those oversized scarves around your head and you’ll be good to go (we desperately wanted one, because it was cold.) Oh and a word about the thigh high suede boots with the inverted wedge: WANT.

On another note, my seatmate and a fellow blogger pointed out that the marquee front row style bloggers like Bryanboy and Susie Lau were getting a lot more attention from photographers than the glossy editors were. It should also be noted that right before the show started, Andrew Rosen–president of Theory (and Helmut Lang) and guru of contemporary brand-building–was plopped down right next to Bryanboy, where the two chatted for the two minutes before the lights went down. It was sort of a snapshot of the industry right now–cool contemporary brand courts cool contemporary customers.

DuckieBrownGlam #NYFW Duckie Brown Fall 2012

Thumping property music woke up everyone at the Duckie Brown’s Fall 2012 show Thursday afternoon as well as male model Rick Genest, aka Rico the Zombie, who sat front row amongst editors and buyers. As for the collection, wide leg pants and elongated shirts dominated, creating voluminous silhouettes. Purple, orange and cream in the form of an expanded plaid print coat provided notable a pop of color in the collection’s dark palette. A lot of of the looks were topped off with either fluffy Mongolian shearling caps and chunky knit turbans or completed with opera length sweater gloves ideal for braving the winter climate.

New Fall 2012 Shows: Honor, Cynthia Rowley, Costello Tagliapietra, and More

Today’s fall shows kept the season’s classic color palette in thoughts. Autumnal hues filled the runways, from leafy browns and yellows to sharp, cold grays and blues. (And a sprinkling of white here and there too, as if designers knew about this past morning’s snow dusting in advance.)  Amongst the highlights were messy curls at Cynthia Rowley, the prints at Costello Tagliapietra — which resembled, just slightly, graceful tiny tentacles swirling, and the boxy bags and circumstances that accompanied the Honor collection down the runway. See them all and a lot of much more galleries, specifics sets, and front row shots from the shows that walked today.

What Does the Celine Show Cancellation Have to Do With Galliano?

Earlier this week, LVMH announced that they are canceling this season’s Celine show simply because of designer Phoebe Philo’s pregnancy (they’ll mount some sort of presentation rather).
