Style Hunter’s Street Guide To The Trouser Suit

As you know, we’ve been snapping away all week at Milan’s menswear shows and to be really frank, we couldn’t give two hoots about what the boys are wearing to the shows – we’re ALL about what the girls have packed. But interestingly adequate, the ladies in attendance do tend to steal from the guys’ wardrobes and take a bit of a sharp sartorial twist for these fashion week looks. Well, it’d be challenging to not be inspired by all of the fabulous suiting on those catwalks and with the Pre-Fall collection nevertheless fresh in a lot of a fashion eds’ thoughts – those baggy mannish suits from Celine et al. are a huge trend on the horizon – it’d be tough to ignore the boy-meets-girl vital of a good suit any longer…
Two ladies in particular caught our eye this time. Both editrix Anna Dello Russo (who we all know is as fond of a excellent trouser suit as she is a totally OTT dress) and Katia Grassi (who functions for Jil Sander’s Navy line) tried out the trouser suit and each succeeded. So why did they get it so proper? Nicely, they kept things straightforward, homochromatic (that is one colour, peeps), with practically zero accessorising and nicely, a totally cool attitude. Oh and heels assist for those of us who do not want to appear too masculine. We’ve picked some pieces to assist you on the way to finding this appear on track – but you’ll have to bring that swagger oneself, ladies…

Fashion non-story of the day: super-slim women luck out during awards season!

The press has nowadays picked up on a story that is so duh-inducing it is barely worth mentioning. The news? You require to be a sample size 2 (UK 4-6) to get the greatest clothes during awards season.
Unless you happen to be an A list nominee or presenter with the cachet to request a custom gown, the ideal stuff comes straight off the catwalks – either couture fashion week (see Mila Kunis above in Elie Saab couture) or February’s fashion weeks, and is created to fit the ever-decreasing bodies of best models. Thus, if you want to be wearing Chanel to the Oscars, you really need to have the body of Freja or Kasia.
But isn’t this all stuff we currently know? Several celebs who do not fit the model-sized mould have been quite open about the difficulty they have in dressing for huge events when sample sizes do not fit. Design homes just do not want to dress anyone who demands ‘special attention’ unless they’re guaranteed loads of publicity. Unless you happen to be a guaranteed nominee (eg. Gabourey Sidibe, who wore custom Marchesa to the Oscars when she was nominated for Precious) you need to have to appear additional afield.
Shipley & Halmos on Creating More Than Just Clothes and Why They Don’t Feel the Need to Show During Fashion Week
Last night, we stopped by Milk Studios to fete Everyone Must be Announced, a new photography book by Aaron Stern, which was released on Shipley & Halmos’ publishing division, S&H Publishers. Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos have been a quiet force in fashion for the past several years and have gradually been adding new non-clothing products and projects to their repertoire, such as hand-illustrated re-drawings of album covers, dog collars, a fragrance, and even their own book.
After a quick chat with one of the evening’s DJs, Alexa Chung–she and Aaron Stern once planned an Occupy Wall Street party together–we caught up with Sam, who filled us in on he and Jeff’s newest project and how they’ve managed to break the mold when it comes to being fashion designers.
Fashionista: How did you end up collaborating with Aaron Stern?
Sam Shipley: We were friends with Aaron and we were flipping through his blogs and he’s a photographer and he has a lot of friends who are in bands and we noticed he had shot–maybe out of boredom or out of waiting for something to happen–some scenic, non-band related photography and that sort of captivated Jeff and I because everybodys been an audience member and we thought that was a really cool concept to give focus on. No audience, no band; no band, no audience. So, I asked Aaron if he had more photographs and he had like a stockpile of photography,so we sort of curated a thing and that’s how it happened.

Most excitingly, we’ve just heard that ever-creative Louboutin will be lending his fetishist shoe-designing ways to create 4 very diverse performances for the legendarily naughty Pariesienne cabaret – Crazy Horse. Yowsers! He’s gathered a dream team of Patricia Folly (choreographer and dancer at Crazy Horse), David Lynch and Swizz Beats to develop the music and photographer Youssef Nabil to shoot the poster shot (above). “The language of legs can express any and every single feeling.” Louboutin has mentioned, so Grazia Daily were quite clearly eager to come across out if we’d be in a position to see any video evidence of the legs and their marvellous shoes in action, but due to the amount of nudity, it is a no… Well, with it beginning on March 4, we’ll simply extend our Eurostar ticket post-fashion week!

INSPIRATION: An effortless yet attractive look. Abergel was inspired by the Spring/Summer 2012 Fashion Week runway trends, which showcased hair that was undone and far more relaxed.
How to Get the Appear: Abergel began by applying Fekkai Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray to wet hair from the roots to the ends. He then rough dried the hair with his hands until it was entirely dry, giving the hair a natural and beach-like texture. He avoided utilizing a round brush even though drying the hair to prevent giving the style a polished appear. Abergel then applied a modest quantity of Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Cream throughout the hair to give it separation.
To produce the up do, Abergel started by taking the front sections of the hair and twisting them upwards. He then pinned the twists at the back and into place, making volume in the front. Abergel completed the up-do by dividing the rest of the hair into sections, twisting and pinning the pieces till all of the hair was pinned up. He finished the appear by spraying the hair with Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Mist.
