Shop-darling

Garance Dore Street Style during New York fashion week The chic Parisian street style photographer tells us her secrets to surviving the madness of New York fashion week: “My boyfriend, and a great pair of heels.” The effortlessly put-together style-spotter chose a pair of Tabitha Simmons boots for her packed day of shows last Friday (Yigal Azrouël, Jason Wu, and Preen all before 3pm).

Alexa Chung’s Fashion Week Survival Secret

Shop-darling

Alexa Chung at Fall 2010 New York Fashion Week The British girl-about-town shared her tried-and-true tip for surviving the madness of New York Fashion Week: “Carry a huge handbag so you can stow away all your fashion week goodies.” At her event tonight showcasing the collection she designed for Madewell (the pieces looked like they were plucked from Chung’s enviable closet), guests walked away with a canvas pencil case filled with chocolate straight from London, a Fortune Teller Miracle Fish, a Drumstick lolly, and a notepad with a handwritten note from Alexa paper-clipped to it. Right about now, as I try stuffing my too-small Vanessa Bruno eBay-find with my new goodies, I wish I was carrying Mulberry’s Alexa bag (named after the girl of the hour).

Net-a-Porter’s Wildly Chic (and Stress Free) Bridal Boutique

Shop-darling

For a girl about to get married (and an online editor to boot), there’s no better way to start off a snowy Tuesday morning than by scouring Net-a-Porter for Lanvin, Temperley, Marchesa, and Vivienne Westwood wedding dresses. Today, the site launched a wildly chic wedding boutique that makes shopping for everything bridal-related a snap —search by category (dresses, veils, shoes, jewelry, and lingerie), which type of bride you are (bohemian, minimalist, fashion forward) and even outfits for mother of the bride and bridesmaids. The icing on the cake: For those last-minute brides like me, Net-a-Porter will deliver your order same day in New York City and London.

Alice Ritter’s Fall 2010 Collection Chicly Combines New York and Paris Style

Shop-darling

Alice Ritter fall 2010 collection Leave it to designer Alice Ritter to create a totally chic, and utterly wearable, Garance Doré-inspired fall 2010 collection (and to offer an array of Parisian pastries right along with it). At her presentation yesterday, Ritter told me that Doré's street shots give her a daily peek into Paris style (the designer moved to New York from the City of Light over nine years ago). She noted that in New York, women rock a more “free-spirited” vibe, while in Paris “there’s an unwritten code, making for a more uniform look.” Lucky for us, Ritter’s fall 2010 collection (filled with oversize knits, plaid bloomers, wool capes, and nerdy/sexy glasses) gives girls the best of both worlds, chicly joining aesthetics of the two cities.

Provocateur at the Hotel Gansevoort

Fashion-file

The Meatpacking District is getting yet another party spot, located at Hotel Gansevoort: Provocateur, a nightclub in the Bungalow 8 style of cozy seating nooks under a canopy of large potted trees. Rag & Bone has designed the short leather waitress uniforms. And skin care line Borba has dreamed up a few cocktails, which, presumably, will have a profound effect on your morning glow. This week, the space will host the Rag & Bone after-party and Alice + Olivia’s fall presentation. The only remaining question is will it  actually give the nearby Standard’s Boom Boom Room a run for its money?
