The Fashion Video Awards: The 10 Best Fashion Videos of the Season
In recent years, video has become increasingly popular as a promotional tool for many industries, but especially fashion, which makes perfect sense given the highly visual nature of this world. Plus, uploading a video onto Youtube and watching it go viral is much more cost-effective than, say, paying thousands of dollars for ad space in a magazine. This season, almost every print ad has a video to go along with it and many brands, some of which don’t even do proper ad campaigns, went the extra mile, producing short films that are impressive in their own right.
As the fall 2011 campaigns rolled out over the past few months, we’ve seen the largest and most impressive and entertaining assortment of videos yet. There was dancing, singing, nudity, and, of course, amazing clothes. So, we’ve decided to round up the best ones in our first-ever Fashion Video Awards. And don’t worry–you won’t find any boring ones like “best engineering.”
Our only critique of this bunch is that there were not nearly enough cats. I mean, if you want your video to go viral…
A Most Holly Jolly Fall Fashion Trend: Wear Red + Red + More Red
GET THE LOOK: It used to be that mixing your reds was considered as bad (worse even) than wearing white shoes in winter. Oh, for shame. Happily, the fashion forces that be are more enlightened these days and red on red on red is not only not a faux pas, but actually encouraged. So go ahead, mix your tomatoes with your cranberries, your chilipeppers with your cherries, your plums with your strawberries and enjoy a tasty fruit-flavored fashion fiesta!
SHOP THE LOOK: Zero+MariaCornejo cocoon-coat, Carven gargoyle-intarsia sweater, Stella McCartney trousers, Mulberry leather gloves, Artemis Wragge “Excelsior” cashmere scarf, DKNY color-block bag, Jimmy Choo “Gilbert” pointy pumps – all available at NET-A-PORTER.com

An upbeat Autumn
For a conformist, fall fashion usually circles around dark colours, minimal accessories, natural make-up and crazy layering. But in our world, including all die-hard Fashionising.com readers (yes, that’s you), fall fashion is everything that wrestles the traditions.
Elle Belgium is adhering to that unique philosophy in an editorial featuring model Amber Anderson, where layering and accessorizing co-exist. It proves that grandma knits and sparkly Miu Miu shoes can be placed on the same table. Bringing back the double handbag trend, stylist Anne Rabeux has induced a bohemian-retro feel to the shoot. Bright headscarves, floppy hats and chunky accessories have been teamed with fur jumpers and camel-hued capes, with maroon, emerald, cream and burnt orange taking precedence on the colour chart. Also a stern reminder of braving the coral lips, winged eyeliner and plum nails, as they will complete your look.

A Clever, Colorful Way to Solve Gaposis from YSL Spring 2012
A Clever, Colorful Way to Solve Gaposis from YSL Spring 2012
Wrap-dresses & -tops especially are notorious for gaping open & generally misbehaving, and the solutions are typically pretty clunky: pinning (which fools no one), double-stick tape (ugh), or camis – which are fine in winter, but less so when you aren’t in the mood for so many body-hugging layers. For Spring 2012, Stefano Pilati showed this very 30s scarf solution, which made us smile as well by reminding us of those goofy but enthusiastic style guides from the 80s & 90s that promised to spill the secrets of scarf-tying…all 18 ways to Sunday worth.

Fall Fashion Trend 101: Tips for Wearing Green
Diane Von Furstenberg Fall 2011, Courtesy of Style.com
Green, for better or for worse, is a hot color this fall. However, green can be one difficult color to wear (other than on St. Patrick’s Day). The color can appear over-bearing on the rack and difficult to adapt to different skin tones (unless you’re a red head). In terms of make-up, while green eye shadow can be quite flattering for those of us with big brown eyes, for most it sounds like it should belong on a Halloween costume.
Yet, the color is a hot trend for this fall (don’t shoot us, we’re just the messengers). So we came up with a few tips to help you incorporate the trend into your wardrobe and beauty drawer.
