Pump Up the Peplum

Peplum is back, ladies. The ruffled waistline emerged in the 16th century and created a huge comeback in the 80s. Now, thanks to its Spring 2012 runway reputation, the peplum is popping up all more than the spot. From blazers and blouses to dresses and denim, it’s the perfect way to add a feminine touch to tailored pieces. Whether or not worn for day or night, preserve your peplum stock modern with a punch of color, unexpected detail, or pairing the flirty silhouette with a structured garment.

Let Zimmermann Take You to Australia for A Minute

Zimmermann may be very best recognized for its bikinis. They’re regularly attractive, but quirky—and comfy. Diehard fans, however, know that Nicky Zimmermann, the brand’s founder and designer, is just as skilled at generating beautifully printed dresses, shorts and tops as portion of her prepared-to-wear collection. In this video, Romy Frydman and Emil Vrisakis capture the spring collection on Iowa-born model Jenny Sweeney. It was shot in Sydney (though you’d never ever know) and meant to evoke the smoky nightclubs of the 1920s. Nicky talks about her digital prints in the behind-the-scenes video above, but you are possibly asking yourself where you can get your hands on the clothes. They sell out on Net-a-porter within minutes and pop up in boutiques across the city, but we hear the Aussie designer’s been scoping out Soho true estate, so stay tuned for news of a stateside flagship. In the meantime, click through to watch the final cut!

Would You Wear… a Tulle Dress?

There may not be a girlier fabric than tulle in existance. After all, memories of the puffy stuff revolve around ballet recitals and Halloween costumes that also involved sequins and tiaras. But this princess fabric has made a serious comeback into our everyday lives.

Don’t believe me? Just put one foot inside a Forever 21 store and you will be bombarded by scratchy dresses that puff out into the aisles. Seen on everyone from feminine stars like Carrie Underwood (pictured above-left) to everyday ladies on the street, it is hard to ignore that tulle is back and here to stay.

The Top 6 Red Carpet Trends at the Golden Globes

Blush Dressed GG 300x444 The Top 6 Red Carpet Trends at the Golden Globes Notice any trends on the red carpet of the Golden Globes final night? Yeah, us too. Aside from the sea of blush tone dresses, stand bys like red and jewel tones, as nicely as buttercup yellow created appearances on the red carpet. There were strapless fishtail gowns aplenty, a lot more than a couple headbands (did this look Claire’s-like to any person else?) and a couple of long-sleeved and backless numbers to counter the countless of well-toned arms and protruding collar bones.

2012 Golden Globes Red Carpet, The Colorful Dresses

Now that we’ve noticed the principal fashion coordinates of the 69th edition of the Golden Globe Awards, it is time for a little enjoyable! The closing report for this year’s edition of the Foreign Press Association’s Golden Globe Awards Ceremony focuses on the colorful dresses of the festive night.

Very good and poor, we’ve seen it ahead of, only this time it is Technicolor, baby! Let’s get to it! I was going to treat it separately as they’re two diverse batches in my opinion: the vibrant, bold and colorful and the blue &amp green dresses. So fear not if you’ll see them grouped as such below! Anything you don’t see in the primary article’s photos, it’ll be in the gallery (so if you want to jump and check out the pictures very first, click here). My favored two: Helen Mirren and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Both representing for the blue dresses.

Helen Mirren was amazingly elegant, comme d’habitude. Her deep blue Badgley Mischka dress flattered her in each way. She was a style lesson on heels! As for Sarah Michelle Gellar, her stylist advised her to go with something much less conventional on the 2012 Golden Globes Red Carpet: a dress that can’t go unnoticed but is not necessarily all that negative. It’s a color fusion blue and white Monique Lhuillier dress. I can’t say it looks stylish, but it’s certainly some thing that stands out.

2012 Golden Globe Awards Red Carpet Black Dresses

The safe choice for evening wear, the queen of all dresses, the Little Black Dress (shorter or longer, simpler or more intricate) was a sure bet for the 2012 edition of the Golden Globe Awards.

Not as numerous as the white-ish, pale neutrals, soft gowns we talked about earlier, the black dresses were equally gorgeous, maybe even more interesting, fashion wise, than the rest. My favorite was, of course, Meryl Streep. A fashion winner, not just a Golden Globe winner! (she took home the Golden Globe for the Best Actress Award for her interpretation in the Iron Lady – once again, Anna Wintour picks the winners for Vogue’s cover) She’s wearing Alessandra Rich, and even if it was a bed sheet or table cloth or both, all I know is that it’s totally her, it suits her, it looks amazingly comfortable and she may wear whatever she pleases, she’ll still be the great Meryl Streep! (I realize I may be all alone in my corner while the entire world is casting fashion stones at Meryl’s dress choice for last night). The story continues right after the jump (you can click here for the gallery!)

You know, there’s something odd happening now – when I did that creamy story earlier, I had good and bad. Now (maybe it’s because of the amazingly good coffee I’m drinking right this moment) I can’t seem to find any flaws in the ranks of the black dresses wearers! Salma Hayek’s black Gucci with golden geometrical embroidery on the dresses’ corset is truly flattering on Salma’s body (notice her ombre hair? If Pinault’s lady has gradient hair, it’s a trend for sure!). And that Prada dress with green upper body that has taken over Zooey Deschanel’s usually quirky baby doll-ish style? It’s amazing! I loved her transformation!

Michelle Williams In Blue Jason Wu Dress 2012 Golden Globes

Michelle Williams is not wearing Chanel, ladies and gents! I can hardly believe my eyes as I’m looking at Michelle’s radiant face in Jason Wu dress! Though keeping her retro really feel (which I adore, by the way!), Michelle Williams’ blue leopard print dress was an interesting selection for the 2012 Golden Globes Awards Ceremony.

I can’t say I’m a large fan of the dress, but I do appreciate Michelle going from black &amp white Chanel to a much more contemporary and interesting, despite the fact that simple and classic style approach. I do adore her headband! It was the additional touch her appear needed in order to be entirely fashionable to my eyes!
