Here at CF, we’re all about discovering our own style and becoming fashionable, mature, and confident. In this next installment of Dormspiration, we’ll discover the individual designs of 3 girls and their uniquely furnished rooms. The sky’s the limit for their decor inspiration, which ranges from modern day country to nautical to “scrapbook” sorority chic. Read on to see some gorgeous dorms and the interior style behind them!

1. Tarynn (Rowan University): Contemporary Country

Tarynn calls her design “girly Midwestern,” and refers to her dorm as her “second residence.” The clean, minimalist interior, tied together by the straightforward and sophisticated color scheme of sky blues, greens, and golds, is a testimony to her Missouri roots. Read on to understand much more about Tarynn’s design!

1. What inspired your design?

“I wanted to go for something a tiny a lot more Midwestern in feel. Becoming from rural Missouri and going to school in New Jersey, I necessary one thing to remind me of home. It all began with the bedding. I fell in love with the pastel floral sheets and every thing just branched from there. I feel like my room is nation-chic and a small whimsical.”

The unexpected nation elements in Tarynn’s decor add so considerably character to her room, particularly the clotheslines with photos that crisscross more than the bed, and the painting of the cow that Tarynn describes beneath!

2. What are your favored pieces and exactly where are they from?

“Most of my favored pieces I produced myself. The prints on the wall are fabric duct taped to Styrofoam poster board. The photo line was actually straightforward to put together and a excellent way to display my favorite photos without having cluttering up my walls or my dresser. My absolute favorite piece, although, is the cow picture my very best friend, Matt, gave me for Christmas. He took a specific trip to IKEA just to get it. It’s so funny and goes perfectly with my room. Plus, it’s just like looking out my window at property and seeing cattle out in the pasture.”

three. What’s your secret for decorating on a spending budget?

“DIY! Finding crafty during the break before the semester begins keeps you from obtaining too bored and saves you a ton of income. Though I haven’t tried something out but for my area, I adore seeking at websites like Pinterest for fun ideas. You do not require to buy lots of trinkets, particularly if you are really limited on space like I am. But feel of creative ways to add color and texture and pattern to your area.”

Colorful, welcoming, and elegant, Tarynn’s personality perfectly reflects on her room, which began out as “random pieces” that came together to produce a comfortable and gorgeous living space.

four. What’s your favored memory of a thing that’s occurred in your room?

“I truly do not devote tons of time in my space, but my best memory would be at the starting of final semester when every person on my floor was nevertheless obtaining to know each other. We all ordered pizza and watched Mean Girls. That sparked some actually powerful friendships and some spontaneous film quoting given that then.”

2. Katie (University of California, Santa Cruz): Nautical and Swedish

In her dorm decor, Katie of UC Santa Cruz managed to blend two items that wouldn’t strike you as getting too significantly in common: Sweden and sailing. On a latest study abroad trip, Katie collected “much of the decor in my space, such as the Swedish flag, map of Europe, and the postcards from a Danish zoo.” Her marine biology key is also extensively featured in her style, and she loves photography (with great cause, she’s great at it!) and “being surrounded by images of sailboats, anchors, and seashells.” Let’s discover Katie’s room!

I enjoy the a lot of special components of Katie’s room, specifically the vintage oar on the wall, and the homey and comfy nature of the mismatched photo frame display. She makes superb use of wall space, building upwards to make the space appear larger.

1. What inspired your style?

“My style is inspired by my love of the sea and of travel. I’ve usually wanted to reside close to the ocean, and now I’m majoring in marine biology and living in a gorgeous beach town, so nautical symbols are some of my preferred factors to decorate with. This past summer, I studied abroad in Sweden, and several of the other decorations in my space had been collected during my trip.”

two. Exactly where are your preferred pieces from?

“My favored pieces in my space are the photographs hanging on the walls. They are all latest pictures that I’ve taken throughout my travels or of my loved ones, and they are what make my space feel like property. My favored hobby is photography, so seeing the photographs each day also encourages me to preserve photographing as usually as achievable.”

The splash of red in the rug is complemented by the a variety of red accents in the area, like in the postcards and lamp, and is echoed by the wealthy wood color of the side table. Everywhere you appear, there’s a thing fascinating with a wonderful history!

3. What’s your secret for decorating on a budget?

“I adore shopping at HomeGoods with my mom, who functions in interior design. It is a hit-or-miss type of retailer, but I’ve discovered some truly fantastic pieces there (including most of my bedding) at very affordable prices. I also tend to acquire small pieces for my room over time at whatever shops I occur to go to, instead of purchasing a ton of stuff at when, so it doesn’t drain my bank account.”

4. What’s your favorite memory of some thing that’s occurred in your area?

“My preferred memory has to be a 3-way tie among when my boyfriend Edward visited from LA following finals this quarter, when my best buddy Roni paid me a surprise pay a visit to, and when I got to decorate my area at the start of the quarter! Immediately after sharing a tiny area with two men and women last year, it was, and still is, truly nice to have a space of my own to decorate nonetheless I like.”

three. Kalli (University of Oregon): “Scrapbook” Sorority Chic

Kalli’s room in her sorority residence at the University of Oregon is cheerful, bubbly, and scrapbook-themed. Her color scheme focuses on teals, pinks, and pale greens, and is continued throughout the complete space. I adore how her and her roomie took the time to match their bedspreads and decor!

1. What inspired your design?

“When my best friend moved to Korea immediately after high school, I produced her a scrapbook as a going away present. From that, I had a ton of leftover paper and crafting supplies.”

Kalli (in the peach scarf) and her roommate put up Christmas lights all about the room, generating the dorm really feel cozier, and made sure to furnish it with a lot of soft pillows and ribbons.

two. Where are your favored pieces from?

“We got the lights from Costco, and I really like them! We love to turn off the overhead lights at night, turn on the Christmas lights, and watch a film. It’s so cozy!”

three. What’s your secret for decorating on a spending budget?

“Paper! When we moved in, there were these ugly grey closets in our area. Instead of getting all new closets, we just covered them in paper. Now they’re one of my favored things in our room!”

4. What’s your favorite memory of a thing that is happened in your area?

“One of my favored things to do in my room is truly acquiring prepared. We normally have 4 or five girls in our room sharing two tiny mirrors, blasting music, and being ridiculous. I swear those are the moments I’ll remember forever.”

No column known as Geek Chic would be complete without an inspiration post on The Large Bang Theory, which is practically television’s adore letter to the geek planet. It is a show that manages to simultaneously mock and celebrate the enthusiastic obsessions that define geekiness. What much more could a girl ask for?

Just before we begin, I just want to reiterate that my goal is not to recreate costumes but to interpret the characters’ types into wearable looks for college girls. The Large Bang Theory characters put on quirky “real-life” clothes for more futuristic fashion, check out the previous Geek Chic posts on Star Trek-inspired looks and Doctor Who-inspired looks.

Know Your Geek: About The Big Bang Theory

The CBS sitcom, which 1st aired in 2007, revolves about the lives of four socially awkward Caltech scientists and Penny, the pretty girl who lives next door. It quickly became hugely well-liked and was TV’s highest-rated comedy in the course of its 4th season.

A lot of the show’s humor comes from the contrast in between the guys’ nerdy, intellectual antics and Penny’s street smarts and common sense. For instance, while Sheldon can name hundreds of Star Trek factoids off the leading of his head and solve quantum mechanics issues in his sleep, he can’t name a single Britney Spears song.

Outfits Inspired by The Massive Bang Theory

Math, science, history, unraveling the mystery, and it all began with a massive bang! You may possibly not be in a position to make sense of string theory (though perhaps that is just me), but you can absolutely make a statement with these Huge Bang Theory-inspired looks. Bazinga!

Sheldon

Dr. Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons, is very idiosyncratic, arrogant, paranoid, germaphobic, and altogether insufferable, but his lack of social graces is paired with a beyond-genius intelligence level. He began college immediately after 5th grade, earned his Ph.D at sixteen, and loves reminding other individuals of his intellectual superiority. Regardless of his super-advanced thoughts, he can be really childish when it comes to getting his way. Aside from science, his passions incorporate comic books, video games, sci-fi and fantasy, and paintball. Above all, he worships Star Trek, taking into consideration it tantamount to religion.

Product info: Cardigan, T-shirt, Shirt, Shoes, Shorts, Necklace, Ring

Sheldon does not care a lot about fashion, but he’s pretty consistent in his adore of graphic tees and plaid anything. Layer a extended-sleeved shirt beneath a Green Lantern tee (or 1 with the superhero of your choice) and top it off with a slouchy striped cardigan. Luckily, pattern mixing is hot proper now, though Sheldon would probably be horrified if he knew about his unintentional trendiness!

Unless you’re feeling daring, complete-on plaid pants might be a bit too a lot rather, put on a cute pair of plaid wool shorts with tights. Finally, add fun oxfords and some quirky extras like this comic book-inspired ring and charm necklace, a reference to “Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock,” Sheldon’s new and enhanced version of the game.

Leonard

Dr. Leonard Hofstadter, played by Johnny Galecki, is Sheldon’s lengthy-suffering roommate and colleague. Despite the fact that he’s also a theoretical physicist and comic-book/sci-fi/fantasy enthusiast, he yearns for normalcy and a stable really like life. Leonard finds Sheldon’s public antics incredibly embarrassing and he’s often left to clean up the messes that his roommate creates. He and Penny have had an on-and-off-once again relationship through the course of the show.

Product Information: Jacket, Hoodie, Shirt, Jeans, Shoes, Earrings, Bag, Glasses

Leonard’s style reflects his desire to fit in: In contrast to his crazily clad colleagues, he tries to keep his clothing low-important. He typically pairs a graphic tee with a hoodie, cargo jacket, and Converse sneakers. (This appears to be the de facto outfit of most TV hipster-nerds.) This ensemble is very similar to his, but with a slightly much more feminine flair.

Given that the pieces are simple, have some enjoyable with the color palette: Here, sunny yellow sneakers supply a good contrast to an otherwise cool-toned outfit. Although Leonard’s t-shirts are typically physics-related, I chose this top as a reference to his Superman boxers. Full your Leonard-inspired look with a tartan messenger bag, thick-rimmed glasses, and sparkly star earrings.

Penny

Penny, played by Kaley Cuoco, is the quintessential girl next door. (Though, if you want to get technical, she truly lives across the hallway.) She’s an aspiring actress/screenwriter, but waitresses at The Cheesecake Factory to make ends meet. Penny is usually baffled by the guys’ behavior and geeky passions, but embraces their eccentricities. Likewise, the guys — particularly Sheldon — usually turn to her when they need advice about “the true planet.”

Item Info: Top rated, Cardigan, Jeans, Wedges, Shorts, Sandals, Bracelet

Though she hails from Nebraska, Penny has the beach-babe appear down pat. As a native of Southern California, exactly where denim cut-offs and Rainbow sandals reign supreme, I locate her appear cute but not particularly innovative. Still, even though, you can’t go incorrect with her effortless and breezy style.

Penny wears lots of casual denim and bright florals. For daytime, pair this cheery blouse and soft cardigan with brief-shorts and flat sandals switch to dark bootcut jeans and enjoyable wedges for a girl’s night out.

Howard

Howard Wolowitz, played by Simon Helberg, is an aerospace engineer and the only guy in the group who does not have a Ph.D to Howard’s chagrin, Sheldon never ever tires of reminding him of this truth. Howard nevertheless lives with his overbearing mom but fancies himself quite the ladies man, even though his verging-on-creepy advances are generally rebuffed. Ultimately, he finds lasting really like with Bernadette right after they bond over getting overprotective mothers.

Product Data: Shirt, Turtleneck, Jeans, Belt, Shoes, Bobby pins, iPhone case

Howard loves his colored jeans, plaid shirts, and loud belt buckles, but his signature clothing item is absolutely the turtleneck. Wear a layered turtleneck and utility shirt in neutral colors to let the bright jeans take center stage subtle stripes and polka-dotted shoes add a dose of whimsy.

You most likely do not want to wear a Nintendo controller on your waist (but much more power to ya if you do), so skip the crazy belt buckle and show your quirkiness with some adorable bobby pins rather. Finally, Howard constantly has amorous intentions on his mind, so put on your heart(s) on your iPhone case. (Apologies, sleeve.)

Raj

Dr. Rajesh Koothrapalli, played by Kunal Nayyar, is an astrophysicist and Howard’s very best friend. He’s originally from India, where he lived in luxury with his wealthy loved ones. Regardless of his comparatively meager way of life in California, he loves American food and pop culture and is terrified of becoming deported. Raj is extremely shy and incapable of talking to women when he’s sober. A single sip of alcohol, even though, and he loses all inhibitions.

Item Data: Blazer, Shirt, Sweaterdress, Tights, Shoes, Scarf, Bangles

Raj has a weakness for psychedelic patterns and an impressive collection of sweater vests. (Seriously, he offers Neville Longbottom a run for his money). Since all the spring clothes are beginning to hit retailers, I had trouble finding a cute sweater vest, so I picked a sleeveless sweater dress instead. Layer it more than a subtly striped blouse for a preppy appear a polished blazer is a step up from Raj’s favored purple track jacket.

Channel Raj’s adore for print-mixing but limit the color palette to steer clear of visual overload for instance, this Fair-Isle scarf is tonally related to the dress and the argyle tights are a neutral gray. For some pizzazz, add an armful of Indian-inspired bangles.

Bernadette

Dr. Bernadette Rostenkowski, played by Melissa Rauch, is Penny’s co-worker at The Cheesecake Factory and has a doctorate in microbiology. Even though she doesn’t constantly realize his sense of humor, she’s engaged to Howard, whom she frequently refers to as her soulmate. Bernadette is usually sweet and cheerful, but when she loses her temper and yells, her voice becomes raspy and she sounds just like Howard’s mom. (He finds this incredibly sexy.) Like Penny, she has small interest in science fiction and comic books.

Product data: Cardigan, Leading, Skirt, Belt, Shoes, Earrings, Sunglasses

When Bernadette was very first introduced, she only appeared in her Cheesecake Factory uniform. Now that she’s a regular character on the show, she gets to show off an adorable ’50s aesthetic, usually wearing girly floral dresses with complete skirts and dainty cardigans.

Right here, I combined the color scheme from her uniform with a retro silhouette for a bold but feminine look: A tie-neck blouse will appear darling tucked into a navy skirt, while a spotted mustard cardigan and emerald belt add pops of color. Complete the quirky-cute appear with Mary-Jane pumps, cat-eye sunglasses, and heart earrings.

What do you feel?

Would you wear these looks? Do you watch The Massive Bang Theory? Whose style do you like best? What other geeky inspirations would you like to see? (The Mirror of Galadriel tells me a journey to Middle Earth is forthcoming…) As often, let me know in the comments!

Totally free Endearment have updated their common Dana Clutch for Spring 2012 and I was lucky adequate to be sent one particular for evaluation. You are lucky too, because you can enter to win a clutch or a wallet at the finish of this post!

While the original Free Endearment Dana Clutch is a wonderful fashionable basic, the laser cut detail on the new version genuinely adds much more interest and excitement to the piece. I feel like it elevates it to a special occasion bag. Which is good for me, because I require outside pockets for keys/phone on an everyday bag. As you can see from the inside view, this has a lot of pockets and is bigger than you may possibly expect of a clutch. But with my (admittedly not little) makeup bag, wallet, keys and telephone it really is fairly full. If you had been willing to forego wallet and makeup bag and use the pockets for those functions, you could undoubtedly save some space and make this your typical purse.

This is of course what you want from a handbag line – a solid basic design and then updates that riff on the original design in new and fascinating methods. A+ for the handmade, custom-tanned leather purveyor. I’ll certainly be keeping an eye on them.

How can you win one?

Head over to Facebook and like the Catwalk Queen Facebook Page as nicely as the Totally free Endearment Facebook Page, and leave a comment on the Free of charge Endearment page saying you saw the bags on CQ. Winners will be chosen Friday, a single to obtain the Dana clutch and one to obtain a wallet from Spring ’12.

Individual style on a college budget can be a challenge. That is why DIY Chic is devoted to bringing you budget-friendly and super straightforward do-it-your self projects. In case you missed the 1st of this series, check out this straightforward and adorable tutorial for button stud earrings. But who says that do-it-your self projects quit with jewelry, accessories, and clothes?

This week, I am sharing an straightforward way to add a private touch to your books, folders, or planner with fabric and embellishments. You may well already have all the supplies you need for this project around your dorm or apartment. Since there is truly no limit to this project, you can get as creative as you want with distinct fabrics, colors, and embellishments. It is the ideal way to liven up your class experience.

What you will need to have:

A folder, organizer, notebook, and so on. that you want to spruce up

Fabric – adequate to cover your item of option

Adhesive spray, but you can also take into account a hot-glue gun, and so on.

Ruler or measuring tape

Scissors

A marker, pen, or chalk

Optional: embellishments, jewels, ribbon, and so on.

The step-by-step method:

1. On a flat surface, lay out your folder or planner and measure the fabric you’ll require. My organizer was one I picked up on clearance, but I wanted one thing a tiny a lot more sleek and specialist, so I decided to cover it with a metallic, snakeskin-esque fabric.

2. Utilizing your marking tool, trace the shape that you’ll need. I suggest adding an extra 1/two to 1 inch of fabric around the edges, given that you’ll later be folding these under for a far more completed appear. Carefully cut the fabric to fit your item.

three. Ahead of you begin gluing, I suggest laying down newspaper or plastic bags to stay away from getting glue on your table or counter tops. Meticulously apply your glue or adhesive to the back side of the fabric.

4. Carefully center your fabric, glue side down, to the side of your item – be certain to permit that extra 1/2 to 1 inch of fabric to hang over the side. Press the material down, smooth out any bubbles, and let to dry.

5. Turn your item over and apply a small amount of glue or adhesive spray to the underside of the extra fabric. Fold it over the edge and hold whilst it dries. This allows for a clean and neat hunting finish. If you are confused, see the finished item in Step 6 above.

6. Continue steps 1-five for the remaining sides of your folder or book. The process can be a little time-consuming and you will want to enable your item to sit out overnight to dry totally.

Once your project has dried, you can experiment with various embellishments, ribbon, or whatever else might fit your individual style. I kept my simple and classic with its leather-like fabric. This project may also be a individual way to dress up a journal, photo album, or memory book as a gift to your roommate or friend. Get as creative as you want!

Soon after the very first Geek Chic post on fashion inspired by Star Trek, the comment box was inundated with requests for an inspiration post about another lengthy-standing bastion of the science fiction globe: Doctor Who.

How do I start to describe the magic that is Medical doctor Who? All I can say is that last summer, my best friend convinced me to watch the very first episode of the revived system. Six days later, I had watched all six seasons. It is a family-friendly show with a thing for every person: there’s adventure, comedy, romance, horror, drama, and of course, lots of wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey…stuff.

Know Your Geek: About Physician Who

BBC plan Doctor Who is the longest-operating science fiction show of all time and initially ran from 1963 till 1989. Right after a made-for-Television movie in 1996, there had been no new episodes till 2005, when producer Russell T. Davies revived the show this “New Who” has been incredibly successful and is now run by Steven Moffat. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the system.

The eponymous character’s name is simply “the Doctor”, not “Doctor Who”: the title comes from a running gag where he introduces himself with “I’m the Physician!” and a person inevitably responds, “Doctor who?” He’s a 900-year-old Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey (meaning that, yes, he’s an alien, and no, he does not appear human, we look Time Lord they came 1st) and he travels in a blue time machine referred to as the TARDIS. For the most part, the Medical doctor is opposed to violence, so instead of wielding weapons, he carries a sonic screwdriver, which is kind of like a futuristic lockpick/Swiss army knife.

When Time Lords are mortally wounded, they don’t die, but instead undergo a method known as regeneration, exactly where their physical appearance and personality alter, but their thoughts and memories stay the same. (This is a major purpose why the show has run for so long: when the actor portraying the Medical doctor leaves the show, he can be replaced by a diverse actor with no destroying continuity.) The classic series included the 1st-7th Physicians, the film the 8th, and the new show began with the 9th Medical doctor the present Medical doctor is the eleventh incarnation of the character.

Considering that all of time and space can be lonely, the Medical doctor normally travels with at least one particular companion (usually a young human female). With the past, present, and future at his fingertips, their adventures can vary wildly: one particular episode they’ll be in the year 5 billion and the subsequent they’ll be paying a pay a visit to to Charles Dickens!

Outfits Inspired by the Doctor

Regardless of whether you’re a lengthy-time fan of the classic show or a recently converted Whovian, there’s plenty of fashionable inspiration to be discovered in a journey by way of the Time Vortex. Allons-y!

Ninth Medical doctor

The Ninth Medical doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston, is a gruff and grizzled veteran who has just witnessed (and played a element in) the annihilation of his whole species and home planet in the Time War. As the final of the Time Lords, he’s bitter and regularly rails against human stupidity. Nonetheless, he repeatedly risks his life to save the residents of Earth. On a single of these missions, he meets Rose Tyler, a 19-year-old human girl. Together they save the planet, and that’s where our adventures with the Ninth Medical doctor start off!

Product Info: Jacket, Sweater, Pants, Ring, Earrings, Boots

Unlike his prior incarnations, who accessorized with almost everything from stripey scarves to silk cravats to umbrellas to stalks of celery (yep, celery), the Ninth Doctor has a basic, minimalist sense of style, usually wearing a leather jacket and a neutral-colored sweater.

Capture his standard but tough look with a quilted bomber jacket, an olive V-neck, cargo pants, and combat boots. Then jazz it up with jewelry: This cool wolf ring alludes to the phrase “Bad Wolf,” a recurring theme through the first season, and the rose earrings, of course, refer to Rose Tyler. Whether or not you wear this outfit to attend lecture or to fight Daleks, you’ll appear absolutely fantastic doing it!

Tenth Medical doctor

The lanky Tenth Medical doctor, played by David Tennant, is at initial glance fully different from his brooding predecessor. He’s charismatic, optimistic, and cheerfully sarcastic, but this bubbly demeanor belies a dark, unforgiving nature. Nonetheless, he’s one of the most well-liked Doctors (and my personal preferred), due to his cheeky sex appeal, contagious energy, and, of course, his genuinely fantastic hair.

Ten wears either a blue or brown pinstriped suit along with a lengthy duster coat (supposedly bestowed upon him by Janis Joplin), glasses, and Converse All-Stars.

Item Information: Trench, Leading, Skirt, Vest, Shoes, Earrings, Necklace, Glasses

Get the tenth Doctor’s look with a shorter trench coat, pinstriped waistcoat, “brainy specs”, and Converse All-Stars, plus a soft blouse and pleated skirt for a feminine touch. If sneakers aren’t your thing, swap in your favored pair of comfy flats: this Doctor does an awful lot of running! Top the outfit off with fairly blue stud earrings the color of the TARDIS light and a fob watch necklace. (You’ll have to watch the show to get the watch reference…spoilers!) You’ll look, as the Tenth Medical doctor would say, brilliant!

Eleventh Medical doctor

The Eleventh Physician, played by Matt Smith, is the quintessential oddball: he’s been described as an elderly, scatterbrained professor trapped in the body of a gangly young man. He’s got a soft spot for fish fingers and custard (together), a tendency to lie, and an insatiable curiosity that typically gets him into trouble. (Also, he’s got the dancing skills of a drunken giraffe.) Nevertheless, he has two hearts of gold and is fiercely protective of his companions, Amy and Rory.

Product info: Coat, Cardigan, Leading, Jeans, Bowtie, Boots, Hat

Channel this lovable Physician with a tweedy elbow patch cardigan, pink blouse, olive military coat, and skinny jeans. Matt wears AllSaints Spitalfields boots onscreen, but these heeled boots are just as cute and significantly far more inexpensive.

Eleven also has a penchant for peculiar headwear (he has declared his fondness for each fezzes and Stetsons). Although either of these hat alternatives may garner you odd looks on campus, you will only get stares of admiration when you don this cute cloche hat. Lastly, no Eleventh-Doctor-inspired outfit is complete without having a bowtie…because bowties are cool!

The TARDIS

TARDIS stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space, and she’s the Doctor’s first and truest love. Although Time Lord spaceships have a Chameleon Circuit, which camouflages the ship to match any time period or location, the TARDIS’s circuit broke for the duration of a trip to the 1960s, so she always looks like a blue police box from that decade.

Do not be fooled by the small exterior, though: the TARDIS is considerably bigger on the inside – and has personality! In 1 specifically memorable episode, the sentient TARDIS matrix is transplanted into a human physique, and for the initial time, she’s able to talk to her Medical doctor, with whom she’s traveled for hundreds of years.

Product details: Dress, Tights, Shoes, Ring, Necklace, Poster

The Eleventh Medical doctor likes to call the TARDIS ”Sexy,” so embrace that nickname with a sweet and subtly attractive appear.

This TARDIS-blue dress with sheer sleeves lets you show some skin while keeping it classy. Idris, the TARDIS’s temporary human vessel, wears Victorian-esque clothing, so allude to that era with these 19th century-inspired lace-up heels. Gold swirl-emblazoned tights will set you apart in a crowd of solid legwear plus, they’re reminescent of van Gogh’s [fictional] painting of the TARDIS. Accessorize with a pavé ring and a key necklace: time to explore the stars with your beloved Physician!

What do you assume?

Would you wear these looks? Do you watch Medical doctor Who? (If so, who’s your preferred Physician and why?) I’m thinking of making this a three portion series: are you interested in a Portion 2 and 3 about the companions? Any other geeky requests? And would you like a jelly child? Let me know in the comments!

P.S. Count the shadows…and don’t blink!

Written by Callie – University of Oregon

Individual style on a college budget can be a challenge. Specifically when the most recent trends adjust with the seasons… literally. But with a small DIY magic, you can perk up your wardrobe without having breaking the bank. That’s just what I aim to prove right here – DIY Chic is devoted to bringing you budget-friendly and super effortless do-it-yourself projects.

For our initial project, these adorable button stud earrings are about as easy as you can get. I adore how they add a youthful and feminine touch to any appear and it’s so straightforward to make them completely your personal. (For much more on generating jewelry, see our past tutorials on DIY beaded earrings and DIY decoupage earrings.)

Even better, this tutorial is a fantastic way to re-purpose an old item. You know that old button-down shirt or cardigan in your closet – the one particular you by no means wear, the one that is too massive or has that unrepairable rip? Just before you throw it out, salvage the buttons and take a look at this far-too-straightforward idea for a new pair of earrings!

What you’ll require:

Buttons

Earring posts and backs (obtainable at craft shops)

Scissors

Hot glue gun

Felt (optional)

The step-by-step approach:

1. Prior to you get began, be confident to plug in your hot glue gun and let it heat up. Also be certain to read through the manufacturer’s directions prior to use.

2. Choose out your pair of buttons. Experiment with sizes and colors, or get creative with novelty or vintage buttons. Then, grab your earring posts and backs. I identified the posts and backs at a craft retailer for much less than $ 2 for a tiny bag.

three. The next step is completely optional, but does make it less difficult to fasten the buttons to the earring posts. Cut two tiny squares of felt, in a color that either matches or contrasts with your buttons. Add a little dab of glue and press the button onto the felt until dry. Then, trim away the additional felt.

4. Finally, add yet another dab of glue and secure the earring post to the back of the button. Of course, you’ll want to let the earrings dry and cool entirely.

And there you go! A basic, rapid, and inexpensive way to add a new pair of adorable earrings to your jewelry collection. I assume this project would also make a fantastic gift for a greatest friend, sister, or roommate.

What do you think?

What do you feel of these simple DIY earrings? Would you contemplate making your own jewelry, or do you prefer to stick to shop-bought accessories? Do you have an concept or suggestion for a future DIY project you’d like to see right here on College Fashion? Let us know what you feel in a comment!

Due to the fact, in the end, it’s not genuinely about what awards you’ve won – it’s what individuals are saying about your dress the next day.

Welcome to the new Geek Chic column! I’m on a mission to prove that an appreciation of fashion and a really like of all issues geeky need to have not be mutually exclusive passions. This column seeks to draw sartorial inspiration from the science fiction, fantasy, and comic book genres: whilst we may not be able to live out the adventures of time travelers, superheroes, hobbits, or space pioneers, we can undoubtedly take some fashion cues from them!

For my very first post, I’m going to concentrate on the ultimate icon of geekdom: Star Trek. Whilst I really like the campiness of the original 1960s Television series, there’s no denying the major style and hotness factor of the 2009 reboot, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Zoe Saldana.

Know Your Geek: About Star Trek

Star Trek was created in the 1960s by Gene Roddenberry, who had a vision of a 23rd-century Earth free of charge of war and inequality. The show was particularly groundbreaking at the time due to the fact of its racially diverse cast and how it addressed concerns such as racism, feminism, imperialism, technology, and human rights. The original series was canceled following 3 seasons, but became immensely popular in syndication, spawning a number of spin-off shows and ten movies.

In 2009, Paramount released Star Trek: XI, which utilized the characters from the original series but involved the creation of an alternate reality. The movie explores the birth of the Enterprise crew as they band together to fight an enemy threatening to destroy Earth. (Plus, there are breathtaking special effects, attractive green girls, and maybe the best-looking ensemble cast ever.)

Outfits Inspired by Star Trek

Ready to take on 2012 by boldly wearing what you’ve never worn before? Make it so with these Trek-inspired outfits!

Uhura

Can I just mention what a excellent function model Communications officer Nyota Uhura is? She is incredibly intelligent, fiercely independent, and never backs down even although she’s one of the few female officers on the bridge. (Plus, nobody rocks a tiny mini rather like Lieutenant Uhura!)

Product Information: Jacket, Dress, Earrings, Shoes, Eyeliner, Straightener

This flippy red dress is fairly comparable to Uhura’s: Dress it up for a night out with a sparkly jacket and futuristic studded ankle boots. Zoe Saldana wore Alexis Bittar earrings in the film, but these drop earrings are just as cute at a fraction of the value. Finish the look by sweeping your hair into a sleek, high ponytail and applying winged eyeliner.

Kirk

Kirk, a rebel without having a trigger, feels his life is going nowhere till he joins Starfleet Academy. He spends most of the film in his cadet uniform, a easy gray and black outfit, though prior to he’s recruited he wears a tough leather jacket and jeans.

Product Details: Jacket, Dress, Scarf, Boots, Bangle

Capture Kirk’s defiant and confident nature with a too-cool-for-school jacket and moto boots. For a pop of color, add a trendy mustard scarf to represent the gold shirt he ultimately wears as a captain. Now go strut your stuff and show the world that you do not think in the no-win scenario!

Spock

Spock, a Vulcan-human hybrid, wears blue to identify himself as a science officer he’s also a Starfleet instructor and perhaps the most iconic Trek character of all.

Product Information: Blazer, Shirt, Jeans, Satchel, Watch, Shoes, Earrings

The ever-logical Vulcan would surely approve of this polished ensemble: A crisp blazer, sensible flats, and a pragmatic bookbag make it ideal for meeting with an adviser or a professor, although the skinny jeans and sheer collared shirt (wear a cami underneath!) prevent it from getting stodgy. The deep red earrings are reminiscent of Spock’s home desert planet, and the gold watch will make certain that you are often on time. Vulcans are too logical to be late!

The U.S.S. Enterprise

Without a ship, Kirk and company wouldn’t even be able to leave Earth, a lot much less explore space, the final frontier. In the 2009 reboot, the Starship Enterprise got a slick makeover that garnered a lot of comparisons to the streamlined elegance of Apple stores.

Product Information: Dress, Leggings, , Belt, Clutch

Channel the legendary spacecraft by pairing an embellished white dress (reminiscent of the Enterprise’s hull) with a metallic belt that’s the exact same shade of blue as the engine nacelles. Then add fun extras like these bold cosmic leggings and a sparkly bag. If you want a far more classic appear, swap in a pair of standard black tights. You are ready to take on the galaxy!

What do you believe?

Did you like the Star Trek movie? And are you excited for the 2013 sequel? Would you wear any of these looks? What other geeky inspirations would you like to see? (Spoiler: You’ll be hearing about a certain Time Lord subsequent time.) Let me know in the comments!

P.S. Live lengthy and prosper!
