Fresh’s Clicquot in the Snow

About those gifting suites at Sundance. They supply everything—from Grey Goose cocktails and Ryka sneakers to Burton swag and NineZeroOne Braids, from Moroccan Oil to McCafe cookies with a side of Puma and Patron. Fundamentally, you could eat and groom and drink your way down the strip with no spending a dollar. But there was a single space that felt like the Bryant Park to the rest of Park City’s Chelsea galleries—the Sorel/Fresh lounge.

The Sorel boots are apparent (it didn’t stop snowing for at least 24 hours), but the Fresh merchandise guaranteed a slow and steady move from a single side of the room to the other. The cosmetics brand teamed up with Veuve Clicquot for Veuve in the Snow, a selection of the brand’s most moisturizing trial sized merchandise packaged in a simple black case, it also consists of Citron de Vigne, a scent inspired by the famous champagne.

It’s going to retail for $ 60, with a value virtually twice that, at all Fresh shops.  (We’d suggest putting that saved dough toward the brand’s new Crème Ancienne Infusion Toner. Whipped up by the exact same monks who make Fresh’s Crème Ancienne moisturizer, we promise it will do one thing magical to your face.) Appear for it in stores subsequent week!

Fashion Week is still strutting away in New York today, as yet more designers showcase their Spring/Summer 2012 collections in front of throngs of admiring fashion fans.

 And one of the designers who perhaps deserves a special shout out is Brit export, Jenny Packham.

Now although Packham has dressed many celebrities (including Emma Watson, Keira Knightley and Beyonce)- a year ago, many people may not have known who the talented designer was. But now, and in huge part thanks to Kate Middleton striding about in her frocks, the designer is shooting to instant fame and success.

Her collection at Bryant Park was full of Jenny’s typically girly-girl, glamorous, sexy dresses- featuring a heavy use of lace and chiffon. Her trademark metallic effect was also present in a selection of pieces which ranged from cocktail party dresses, to red carpet “I’m ready for the Oscars” dresses!

And always one to leave a lasting impression for all the right reasons, Packham’s collection even featured brightly coloured, racy and thigh-flashing playsuits, proving that this line dares to be different!

The launch of Missoni for Target’s so extremely anticipated, we can only picture it’ll sell out faster than a pair of Beyoncé tickets. The 400-piece collection (Target’s greatest partnered line ever) isn’t scheduled to hit shops til September 13, but Target’s giving you the opportunity to shop the whole collection early. A Missoni for Target pop-up store is set to open in New York City on September 8, Fashion’s Night Out.

In celebration of the late night shopping event, the 1st 20 men and women to spend over $ 100 get to take family members portrait-style pictures with Angela Missoni and Margherita Maccapani Missoni. Shop fast and get a chance to win giveaways. Those who snag items from the official FNO collection within the initial hour will be entered to win some of Angela and Margherita’s preferred pieces from the Missoni for Target collection.

With all the excitement surrounding the debut of Missoni for Target, individuals are encouraged (and expected) to arrive early. Neighboring Bryant Park, the pop-up shop will be open from 6pm-11pm on September 8 and on September 9 and 10 from 9am-8pm. In spite of its set hours, the shop will be open as long as the zig-zag printed clothing, accessories, and beauty goods last.

Wasson’s RVCA collaboration ended after three joyous years that included fashion shows on the largest runway in the Bryant Park tents, and, more logically, in the rug gallery of ABC Carpet and Home. She gave us crazy brow, crazy pants, and free food and Champagne, for all of which we are grateful. Though she’s only done her own line of Low Luv jewelry for the past couple of seasons, her clothing design efforts are back on for fall 2011 for Zadig & Voltaire, whose summer 2011 and fall 2011 campaigns she will also star in. Zadig & Voltaire is ideally suited to the crowd who enjoys overpriced tacos and concept meatballs in the Lower East Side and has to look cute while waiting for four hours outside on the sidewalk for them. The brand opened a shop in the meatpacking district not long ago but never sparked a frenzy. Signing Wasson will definitely raise their profile. More Erin Wasson fashion shows, please!

As I pass a tentless & barren Bryant Park and head further uptown to the new park about to become synonymous with fashion, Damrosh Park at Lincoln Center, I realize this is a Fashion Week which will represent change. However, one thing that won’t be changing is the ongoing celebration of some the world’s best fashion talent, including the “Mercedes-Benz Presents” program which recognizes designers that consistently demonstrate dedication to the use of quality materials, unique style, and innovative design. For Spring/Summer 2011, they will be honoring Carolina Herrera. “I am very proud to be chosen as the “Mercedes-Benz Presents” designer,” notes Herrera. “To be recognized in such an important year in Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week history, is, without question, a wonderful honor.”

Along with a successful Red Carpet season – her frocks were seen on Glee’s Dianna Agron & Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara and many an Emmy Best Dressed Lists – the Fashion Week will also mark the 10th anniversary of her flagship store on Madison Avenue, and her 30th anniversary of presenting her designs.

Wednesday morning we had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast and baubles at the Bryant Park Hotel with Molly Sims. The model/actress invited a group of editors to check out Grayce, her line of jewelry and to celebrate her newly launched e-commerce site graycebymollysims.com. Sims, who is heading to Cabo for her 37th birthday later this month, graciously shared this Mother’s Day shopping tip:  “don’t buy what you like, buy what your mom’s going to like.” We think our mom will love the Grayce layered metal chain bracelet with crystal ($125) and for our part, we’re obsessed with these crystal tassel chain earrings in gold ($115).

Last night’s closing celebration of eighteen years of Fashion Week at Bryant Park featured something we’d seen little of at the tents before: hordes of straight men, many of whom were probably bankers. Drawn by the several free open bars and the assumption that the tents would be teeming with beautiful women, a few were disappointed by a shortage of the latter. “Where are all the models?” moaned one fellow in a polo shirt to his friend while they waited in line for the bathroom. When a portly woman cut the queue, he became enraged: “That lady was definitely not cute enough to cut everyone,” he fumed. “Did you see her? She was like, the size of two models.” He then noticed us in front of him and apologized for his outburst. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you.”

The bathroom shortage was owed to teams of workmen who were literally loading portions of the tents into huge trucks while the party carried on in the Salon and the lobby; many of the portable restrooms had already been carted off. The Salon had been hurriedly refurnished as a dance lounge, complete with leather couches, low tables, and a bar. The transition had been so swift that the photographers’ spots in the pit were still marked off with masking tape. Alas, partygoers were more interested in dancing — we even spotted an impromptu mosh pit around midnight — than marveling at what was.

Artist duo Cole Nahal and Garret Bowser (best known for inhabiting Keith Haring’s former digs) wore outfits fashioned out of “found” objects from Bryant Park, including pieces of snow fencing and plastic bags. Most randomly of all, we heard a familiar voice giddily exclaim, “Oh, there you are! You look so pretty!” and turned to see People’s Revolution staffers Stephanie Skinner and Emily Bungert joyfully embracing one another. We later spotted them on the dance floor, where they seemed to be enjoying life, for a change.

The spell was quickly broken, however, when a man in a button-down shirt skeazily (and laughably) asked if we were a model, which left us with no doubt: it was time to bid farewell to Bryant Park.
