Molly Sims’ Grayce-ful Must-Haves

Wednesday morning we had the opportunity to enjoy breakfast and baubles at the Bryant Park Hotel with Molly Sims. The model/actress invited a group of editors to check out Grayce, her line of jewelry and to celebrate her newly launched e-commerce site graycebymollysims.com. Sims, who is heading to Cabo for her 37th birthday later this month, graciously shared this Mother’s Day shopping tip: “don’t buy what you like, buy what your mom’s going to like.” We think our mom will love the Grayce layered metal chain bracelet with crystal ($125) and for our part, we’re obsessed with these crystal tassel chain earrings in gold ($115).

Twiggy’s Take on London Fashion

Twiggy took over the Bryant Park Hotel’s loft Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the launch of the Twiggy London Collection exclusively at HSN. Glam caught up with the icon, who was in the midst of enjoying a tea sandwich to fight the jet lag, to find out about her design process and favorite pieces. “We started off by going through my wardrobe and finding my staples,” she explained. Skinny jeans, t-shirt dresses, satin sneakers, and embellished belts have long been some of her favorite things and they are reinterpreted in this collection; plus a Union Jack bag clearly pays homage to her British roots. The folksy vest featured above was based on a 1930 version she got at a vintage shop over 21 years ago and still wears today. “I’m quite casual; I think fashion should be fun and some people take it way too seriously,” said Fergie. “I love military details, gypsy skirts, boxy boyfriend pieces and pretty prints and I know customers will too.” Shop the collection now at HSN.com.

Bankers Flood Fashion Week’s Farewell Party

Weird.
Last night’s closing celebration of eighteen years of Fashion Week at Bryant Park featured something we’d seen little of at the tents before: hordes of straight men, many of whom were probably bankers. Drawn by the several free open bars and the assumption that the tents would be teeming with beautiful women, a few were disappointed by a shortage of the latter. “Where are all the models?” moaned one fellow in a polo shirt to his friend while they waited in line for the bathroom. When a portly woman cut the queue, he became enraged: “That lady was definitely not cute enough to cut everyone,” he fumed. “Did you see her? She was like, the size of two models.” He then noticed us in front of him and apologized for his outburst. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you.”
The bathroom shortage was owed to teams of workmen who were literally loading portions of the tents into huge trucks while the party carried on in the Salon and the lobby; many of the portable restrooms had already been carted off. The Salon had been hurriedly refurnished as a dance lounge, complete with leather couches, low tables, and a bar. The transition had been so swift that the photographers’ spots in the pit were still marked off with masking tape. Alas, partygoers were more interested in dancing — we even spotted an impromptu mosh pit around midnight — than marveling at what was.
Artist duo Cole Nahal and Garret Bowser (best known for inhabiting Keith Haring’s former digs) wore outfits fashioned out of “found” objects from Bryant Park, including pieces of snow fencing and plastic bags. Most randomly of all, we heard a familiar voice giddily exclaim, “Oh, there you are! You look so pretty!” and turned to see People’s Revolution staffers Stephanie Skinner and Emily Bungert joyfully embracing one another. We later spotted them on the dance floor, where they seemed to be enjoying life, for a change.
The spell was quickly broken, however, when a man in a button-down shirt skeazily (and laughably) asked if we were a model, which left us with no doubt: it was time to bid farewell to Bryant Park.

Tommy Hilfiger Brings Bryant Park Fashion Shows to a Sappy End

Amidst clinking Champagne glasses backstage after his show last night — the last fashion show in Bryant Park before Fashion Week moves to Lincoln Center — Tommy Hilfiger described the evening as “bittersweet.” He added that his closing speech — for which he had to shush the crowd, who wouldn’t stop applauding as he strode down the runway with a microphone — was a matter of decorum. “I just thought it was appropriate, being the last show, to say something and give congratulations to Fern Mallis, IMG, and Stan Herman, who really made Bryant Park’s tents come to life,” he explained. “Fern Mallis opened the doors for me eighteen years ago, when I was not quite as organized as I am today, and I’m very grateful to her.”
A grinning Mallis was equally laudatory of Hilfiger: “This whole place was built to put American designers on the map, and Tommy is Mr. America. It was a fitting show, and a fitting scale of show. It wasn’t, you know, a little show in the Salon — it was a big, beautiful show, and everyone was there. It was a beautiful collection, too, which is even more important. Ending it that way and acknowledging us all, it was really poignant and lovely and it made me feel good.” Aw.

#NYFW Molly Sims Sends the Paparazzi into Overdrive
Sure we think Molly Sims is beautiful and we must admit that we are slightly obsessed with her shiny blonde locks, but when we spotted dozens of paparazzi chasing the CoverGirl model inside Bryant Park we were a bit confused. Sims, who was heading in to the Diane von Furstenberg show, was escorted into The Tent by a security team who helped shield her from the flashbulbs. So we’re curious as to why she didn’t want her picture taken and also as to why mass chaos ensued when she arrived?

#NYFW Style Setter: Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet

The proximity of Stacey Bendet’s Alice + Olivia store to the Tents at Bryant Park, makes her an obvious New York Fashion Week style setter. Her boutique, which is located on 40th Street serves as an unofficial retreat from the chaos. Bendet, who became famous for her flattering and versatile pants, has since branched out and created must have party dresses, sexy tanks, a line of shoes with Payless, and sparkly Keds to boot. Bendet will show her Fall 2010 collection tonight at Provocateur; Mickey Avalon will perform and The Misshapes will spin for the crowd. In the midst of putting the finishing touches on her collection, Bendet shared some of her favorite things with GlamChic. ~Nola Weinstein
What’s inspiring you now?
I have been having a Tim Burton obsession. I love Alice in Wonderland and I love his drawings, his films…he’s like creativity personified. And my daughter Eloise. Eloise picks up my clothing and has this funny way of draping things around her and I watch the way the fabric falls and sometimes it just looks really cool and different. No one would believe this but its true! So I guess Beetle Juice meets a one year old who loves fuzzy hoodies and animal blankies? I am probably scaring people now.
Where will you be wining and dining this season?
We have made Nobu a habit since it’s five blocks from our apartment. I also love the Waverly Inn when it’s cold out and Kitchenette for brunch on the weekends…
Describe your Fall 2010 collection in 140 characters or less:
Pretty, Sexy. Chic. Whimsical. The colors are really rich and beautiful and the bodies are sexy, modern…is this twitter?
What three things can you not live without?
My husband. My daughter. My Heels.
What cartoon character do you most identify with and why?
My husband Eric calls me Japanimae. And my father-in-law is turning us into a cartoon. So I guess I can relate to me soon.
What’s the most stylish place in New York?
Well, besides my office….:) The Boom Boom Room is rather chic these days and there is never a shortage of good outfits at the Waverly Inn!
Whose closet would you like to raid?
Amy Fine Collins. Without hesitation or doubt, she has the best style of anyone I know and the most incredible wardrobe and some of the most amazing vintage Geoffrey Beene and Ralph Rucci and YSL…
