Pop artist Keith Haring and shoe designer or should we call him the shoe-god Nicholas Kirkwood is teaming up and the result is just a-mazing!! Who ever said shoes was made for walking must have been high on something illegal. Just to make it clear: they’re not. Shoes are supposed to be crazy, amazing, high-heeled, designed to make you feel like the greatest women on earth : ) But it’s ok if you have one or two pairs of boring but comfy boots when you do need to walk for long : ) 12 styles in total will be available from February 2011. And psst, there will be some cool but amazing pair of ballerinas too for the you gals out there that are allergic to high heels.

“I watched this documentary called The Universe of Keith Haring, and though I know his style, I hadn’t seen the breadth of his work. I couldn’t stop thinking about how amazing and prolific he was and how great it would be to incorporate his graphics into my designs, Kirkwood explained. You know when it’s your last week of a job and you’ve already mentally left the place? That’s how we feel about summer. We know it’s still going on, but our minds are already in Autumn. Which would explain our current penchant for boots, especially the vibram-soled kind. Trend hoppers would say that these are already Kwame’d but let’s face it, most men’s clothing is far too expensive for anyone to be caring too much about whether it’s ‘in’ or not. (Tres Bien)

At Least This Heat Has Been Great for Retail

The Hollister store may have recently closed to treat a massive bedbug problem, but foot traffic was strong in the store on Saturday when it reopened. Because apparently the only thing worse than bedbugs is this awful heat wave, which sent customers — many of whom may have been unaware of the bedbug threat — into the cool breezes of air conditioning wafting from the vents, where bedbugs may still be crawling. (Hollister says the bugs are gone, but experts still strongly suggest caution while shopping there.) It begs an important question: Is the heat really worse than the possibility of catching bedbugs? Perhaps the steamy, record-breaking weather is preventing New York and its tourists from thinking clearly.

Over the weekend, businesses in the eastern two-thirds of the U.S. experienced double-digit increases of seasonal purchases compared to the coldest 2009 period in a decade, according to Planalytics, which analyzes and publishes the weather’s impact on retail. While consumers on the West Coast were still waiting for summer to start and holding off on seasonal purchases, other shoppers were able to think about fall wardrobes and even boots — despite the heat.

They are not only risking bringing pet bedbugs home, but they are thinking about and trying on clothes that make them even warmer. What else is going on? In between stores do they plop down on a bench — in the sun — with a nice hot cup of soup? This heat is probably bad enough to make people that downright crazy.

Sav Style – Hudson Subversion Skinny Cargo

The Subversion offshoot of Hudson Jeans refers to the anti-uniform influenced by the history of military style where modern silhouettes meet military inspired details (at least that’s what the hangtag says). If these Skinny Cargos are any indication to the Subversion line, Hudson will have a hit on their hands. Really comfortable from the second you put them on these cargo’s are made of amazing cotton fabric with just the right amount of distressing. The exposed zipper detail (where the edges are also unfinished) is super cute and I love areas where it’s intended to appear as though a repair or patch has been made on the pants. If I were trying these on in a store hands down I’d plunk the cash down to buy them.

Today is my 16th birthday… a milestone and it’s appropriate that I am writing up a review, listening Selah Sue and shortly I am going to go over to my best friends house to swim and hang out. Tonight I have a birthday dinner with friends and all the people who make up my “family”. I’m so thankful for all the people who have supported me to grow and learn. If I have a “privilege” of any kind it’s the opportunities and experiences in my life. I so enjoy writing these reviews, meeting the people behind the brands, going to and covering events and learning about the field I want to be in (clearly fashion).

I got this tanktop from Forever 21 and my Steve Madden shoes never let me down. You could pair anything with these Hudson Skinny Cargos and look fab. There is no season for these pants as the fabric is light enough to wear through the summer months yet thick enough that they would be great in the winter with boots and a coat. This is my first time wearing any Hudson and I will give them the compliment of having a great fit, true to size and being made of quality fabric and hardware (I’ve become a bit hardware obsessed). Solidly constructed these can only get better with many washes and dries. A plus with these cargo’s is that they are sexy not boyish and I like that a lot.
