At Least This Heat Has Been Great for Retail

Hollister.
The Hollister store may have recently closed to treat a massive bedbug problem, but foot traffic was strong in the store on Saturday when it reopened. Because apparently the only thing worse than bedbugs is this awful heat wave, which sent customers — many of whom may have been unaware of the bedbug threat — into the cool breezes of air conditioning wafting from the vents, where bedbugs may still be crawling. (Hollister says the bugs are gone, but experts still strongly suggest caution while shopping there.) It begs an important question: Is the heat really worse than the possibility of catching bedbugs? Perhaps the steamy, record-breaking weather is preventing New York and its tourists from thinking clearly.
Over the weekend, businesses in the eastern two-thirds of the U.S. experienced double-digit increases of seasonal purchases compared to the coldest 2009 period in a decade, according to Planalytics, which analyzes and publishes the weather’s impact on retail. While consumers on the West Coast were still waiting for summer to start and holding off on seasonal purchases, other shoppers were able to think about fall wardrobes and even boots — despite the heat.
They are not only risking bringing pet bedbugs home, but they are thinking about and trying on clothes that make them even warmer. What else is going on? In between stores do they plop down on a bench — in the sun — with a nice hot cup of soup? This heat is probably bad enough to make people that downright crazy.

Sav Style – Hudson Subversion Skinny Cargo

The Subversion offshoot of Hudson Jeans refers to the anti-uniform influenced by the history of military style where modern silhouettes meet military inspired details (at least that’s what the hangtag says). If these Skinny Cargos are any indication to the Subversion line, Hudson will have a hit on their hands. Really comfortable from the second you put them on these cargo’s are made of amazing cotton fabric with just the right amount of distressing. The exposed zipper detail (where the edges are also unfinished) is super cute and I love areas where it’s intended to appear as though a repair or patch has been made on the pants. If I were trying these on in a store hands down I’d plunk the cash down to buy them.
Today is my 16th birthday… a milestone and it’s appropriate that I am writing up a review, listening Selah Sue and shortly I am going to go over to my best friends house to swim and hang out. Tonight I have a birthday dinner with friends and all the people who make up my “family”. I’m so thankful for all the people who have supported me to grow and learn. If I have a “privilege” of any kind it’s the opportunities and experiences in my life. I so enjoy writing these reviews, meeting the people behind the brands, going to and covering events and learning about the field I want to be in (clearly fashion).
I got this tanktop from Forever 21 and my Steve Madden shoes never let me down. You could pair anything with these Hudson Skinny Cargos and look fab. There is no season for these pants as the fabric is light enough to wear through the summer months yet thick enough that they would be great in the winter with boots and a coat. This is my first time wearing any Hudson and I will give them the compliment of having a great fit, true to size and being made of quality fabric and hardware (I’ve become a bit hardware obsessed). Solidly constructed these can only get better with many washes and dries. A plus with these cargo’s is that they are sexy not boyish and I like that a lot.
The Hudson Subversion Skinny Cargos reviewed here are available from Barney’s for $305.

Cozy & Handcrafted Whooga Ugg Boots: What Jesus Might Wear!
"If Jesus were to wear Uggs, this is the brand he would wear," noted The Daily Collegian recently about Whooga's twin-faced leather authentic sheepskin boots which boast double-stitched seams, reinforced heels, and highly-durable premium Merino leather that are designed to last without sagging or an annoying lack of heel support. "There are many differences between Whoogas and Uggs, the most noticable being in the grade of the sheepskin lining." Most mass-produced ugg boots use scratchy synthetic materials like suede & wool blends (look for the tip-off term "sheepskin lined") which are unable to come close to the warmth and comfy'ness provided by the real thing, where the air circulates between the teeny real sheepskin fibers – which can be bent over 20,000 times and still remain springy…and, more importantly, odor-free! Dense + plusher fibers = ugg boots snuggliness. We (and, no doubt, Jesus) are particularly coveting a pair of these adorable Minis in Black for keeping our toes toasty on drafty evenings.

Herbert Schier Velskoen Desert Boots

Now, I am not one to jump off my favorites to a another competing brand, but these Herbert Schier takes on the desert boot are just on point. “Velskoen, pronounced “fell-skoon” and known colloquially as “vellies,” are the ancestor of the modern-day desert boot. They were first made in the 1600s by members of the Dutch East India Co., inspired by the footwear of the Khoisan tribe. These days in South Africa and Namibia, hard-working vellies are worn by all types, from laborers to bush rangers to university students.” Hickoree’s has them. (secretforts)

Victoria Beckham Wore OTK Boots in the Middle of June

Today Victoria Beckham attended the party at Claridge’s to celebrate the decorating Diane Von Furstenberg did for the hotel. She paired her Anita Ko dress with over-the-knee boots, even though June is almost over and summer has officially begun. Clearly, it’s not only fall in the heads of fashion editors, but on the legs of Mrs. Beckham too!
Would you say OTK boots are a seasonless look?

Would You Wear Boots In Summer?
I asked myself this question a couple of times over and I can’t find the resources to pull a positive answer. I have my favorite biker boots ready, starring at me and I only remember wearing them once in the summertime when I went to the movies. At night. Such a brave girl!
So when I saw these Fendi knee-high beauties I though (besides the obvious label wrong) that whoever is at the other (charming, I’m sure) end of the boots must have had a heavy training. For wearing boots in the hot summertime. In the city. So, for those of you out there who are brave enough to make the boot-summer-move, please share your thoughts and motivation! (photo via)

The New Melissa Ankle Boots By Gaetano Pesce Turn Into Sandals
Melissa and I got acquainted a while back. And I must say (as you may have noticed), it was far from being a warm encounter. At first. As time went by, I began to warm up at Melissa’s charms and slowly, but surely gave into their plastic dreams.
With big names of fashion and architecture on their side, Melissa works on a dangerous combination of style and daring design, combination they’ve never took as far as this time. Working with Italian architect Gaetano Pesce, Melissa has released a very special plastic shoe. Made of interconnected plastic circles, the ankle boots can be highly customized. For it’s at the customer’s discretion that the interconnected circles can be cut off, releasing the sleeping seven different shapes in which the new Melissa shoes can be tamed into. Can you honestly close your eyes and refuse such a challenge? (via)
