See Images From the New Dior Inspiration Book

Abrams Books’s newly released Dior Inspiration takes a close look at some of the house’s greatest collections over the years, and reveals a  glimpse at the influences behind them. The subject material spans decades (and designers), including everything from Christian Dior’s 1947 New Look to  John Galliano’s Russian-inspired spring 2002 couture show. And the references run the gamut, with Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave Off Kanagawa and Russian painter Kazimir Malevich’s Woman with a Rake both playing muse (points to the person who can guess for which shows and seasons without clicking into the images ahead). See a selection of looks and the works that inspired them in our slideshow.

First Look: Patrick Demarchelier’s Photos From the New DIOR COUTURE Book

DIOR COUTURE is a new coffee-table photo-book coming out tomorrow, which chronicles, well, Dior couture. With accompanying text by Ingrid Sischy, it’s a collection of over 100 photos of exquisite and ornate gowns from the Christian Dior house’s haute couture archives — including pieces by Dior himself, and by his successors, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, and John Galliano. All the images were shot by renowned photographer Patrick Demarchelier and feature top models, including Karlie Kloss, Gemma Ward, Gisele Bündchen, and Natalia Vodianova. Heresy: Bjorg jewellery video + look book

If I were to give you a detailed analysis into Bjorg’s spring 2012 video Heresy I’d have to concede it were all guesswork. It’s the kind of film that’s open to your own interpretation. What I can say though is that it’s strangely gripping, made of just a few lengthy cuts that sweep a barren landscape on which the interpretable action takes place.

As for Bjorg’s jewellery collection for the season – explored in far more detail in the look book than in the largely thematic video – these are pieces that play to mythology, dreamscapes, the geometry and geology that have so successfully devoured other jewellery trends this year to become the number one desire. Organic, hippie yet futurist, raw yet refined. Ear-cuffs and cigarette holding rings give a unique (and very editorial worthy) expansion to the usual jewellery suspects.

Lady Gaga In Dolce & Gabbana – ‘Lady Gaga x Terry Richardson’ Book Launch Party

Lady Gaga Lady Gaga x Terry Richardson Book Launch Party Lady Gaga In Dolce & Gabbana – ‘Lady Gaga x Terry Richardson’ Book Launch Party

After wearing Chanel and Stephane Rolland the night before, Lady Gaga was out again last night in New York City to celebrate yet another collaboration: the ‘Lady Gaga x Terry Richardson’ book launch party.
This time the singer donned a Dolce & Gabbana dress.

The full-length black lace dress with a plastic flower on the shoulder, which left little to the imagination, was typically Gaga: revealing, shocking and treading a fine line between being sassy and tacky.

Lady Gaga Reads Aloud from her Terry Richardson Coffee Table Book!

If you were upset because the ongoing saga of Versace for H&M is drawing to a close, don’t be! There are plenty of other things to look forward to. To give just one example, off the very top of our head, this utterly indulgent and slightly pretentious (in the very best fashion photographer tradition) 350 page (yes, you won’t be reading this on the bus to work) tome, all about the life of rock star Lady Gaga, as documented faithfully, down the last corset change and bath bubble by the rather controversial bespectacled ageing hipster, Terry Richardson. It’s due to come out in a matter of mere days!

To whet everyone’s appetite for the forthcoming publication, Lady Gaga has created this amazingly intimate video where she coyly twinkles at the camera and reads aloud from the foreword to the book, spouting such priceless aphorisms like, ‘Terry has taught me deeply profound truths about myself. I have discovered through him that shame is an obsolete notion and an apology is an injustice to any performer.’

We couldn’t agree more, Gaga. Although, if we are being 100% honest, we think we prefer you when you are singing.

Marisa Berenson Talks ‘Titties,’ Tom Ford and Actresses vs. Models at Her Book Launch

marisa 1 Marisa Berenson Talks ‘Titties,’ Tom Ford and Actresses vs. Models at Her Book LaunchThe idea of having a charmed life seems very far-fetched these days, but Marisa Berenson is living proof that it’s possible. Elsa Schiaparelli is Marisa’s grandmother, and Diana Vreeland was a good family friend who put Marisa in Vogue at the age of 16 (well, actually, Marisa first appeared in Vogue as a baby when her christening portrait, shot by Irving Penn, was printed in the glossy.) She went on to have a stellar career as a model, being lensed by the likes of Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, Hiro, and Richard Avedon. She eventually smashed through the model/actress barrier, with a breakout turn in Stanley Kubrick’s film Barry Lyndon. While we could go on and on about her accomplishments and career, luckily we don’t have to: Marisa has a book out now titled Marisa Berenson: A Life in Pictures (Rizzoli, 2011) which was edited by Steven Meisel. As the title suggests, it’s a pictorial retrospective, and much like Marisa herself, stunning and completely fascinating.

At a small cocktail gathering earlier this week to celebrate the launch of her book, Marisa said she thought the time was right for a book, since the world seems to be particularly inspired by the 60s and 70s now, and so much of her career happened during those heady times. We knew that we wanted to hear more of Marisa’s stories when she had no qualms telling the room that she “[had] the first titties in Vogue” and then told us about a shoot in which everyone dug through the garbage cans of seafood restaurants to get shells to use in her hair for a shoot (pic in gallery below). She also revealed that she has a skin care line coming down the pike (featuring prickly pear–and if her skin is any indication about the efficacy of prickly pear, we will gladly smear it all over ourselves). We had the chance to speak to Marisa about her career, about walking for Tom Ford, and about her thoughts on models today.

Fashionista: How did it happen that you walked in the Tom Ford show?
Marisa Berenson: He literally called me up and said ‘Would you be in it?’ and I said, ‘Are you kidding? Of course I’ll be in it!’ He’s such a special person; I find that everything he does is so perfect and beautiful . I was honored. He celebrates women of all ages.
