Men’s Turtlenecks: Autumn/Winter Essential?
Turtle Power
Turtleneck jumpers have long been in and out of men’s fashion, but could this be the year they turn from passing fad to a true essential for the modern day male? Whether you like it or not, X-Factor is back on UK television, and even though it might be funny to laugh at the deluded wannabes that grace its stage, my mind has been elsewhere when watching the show; namely focussed on the sharp style of both Gary Barlow and Dermot O’Leary. Who knew? Both of these gentlemen are well loved here in Britain, and it seems like their personal style has jumped a level over the past couple of years.
Dermot has particularly stood out for me over recent weeks. He seems to have a real penchant for turtlenecks at the moment, and although I had heard and seen rumblings of the item becoming a trend piece for autumn/winter, I had no idea that they would take off this fast. Indeed, it seems they are already becoming popular within this transitional period between the end of summer and autumn, as none other than the ever dapper Will Young also sported one on BBC breakfast the week after:

Men’s Corduroy Clothing: Autumn/Winter 2011 Trend
Introduction
Let me tell you a little story. When I was at college, many moons ago, I had a pair of Topman corduroy flares that were a light rust colour, and they were awesome. I kept them with me from college to my work life until they literally fell apart around me – which was an embarrassing visit to ASDA, let me tell you. At the time they were fantastic because they were right on the super-flare trend, suitable for my Shetland Pony-ish legs and they also incorporated a twist to make them look slightly different from the run of the mill garments available on the high street.
Lucky for me – and my Shetland Pony legs – corduroy is coming back this year with a bang. Taking inspiration from the very popular Heritage trend we are seeing this season, the premium fashion houses and the high street are pushing traditional British countryside styling and fabrics, with emphasis on items such as tweed, quilting, gilets, brogue boots… and now corduroy.

Holly Fulton Autumn/Winter 2011
Written by Adele Booth

You would be forgiven for thinking that every season Holly Fulton looks the exact same- the collection, not the lady necessarily- but even if the style is really defined, it does not seem to abate our obsession with the Scottish designer’s work. This time about? Silky palazzo trousers exactly where the print is either muted or exagerated, or anything with those smackers across it. Mwah.

Alexander McQueen and McQ Autumn/Winter
Written by Adele Booth

How can McQueen look more McQueen than ever before, creating exceptionally rather than just riding off of the late designer’s work? It’s puzzling to us plebeians, but the most recent Autumn/Winter 2011-12 ads released are as dramatic and arresting as fashion can ever get. Shot by David Sims and featuring Raquel Zimmerman- these aren’t for casually flicking past in a glossy, oh no, you’re going to stare and stare and pop back and stare some more.

As for the McQ campaign, also shot by Sims but featuring the work of net artist Aaron Parsons (who has also been commissioned by M.I.A and the Ting Tings), the models and pixelation seem distorted. It all makes us anxious- we believe both campaigns work brilliantly.

Written by Adele Booth

It is great to see online retailers starting to put a real fashion spin on buying lingerie. Of course there’s good stuff out there, NJAL becoming prime example, but often it’s challenging to shake that Ann Summers really feel with out becoming overly high-finish and exclusive, in a way that fashion shopping just isn’t anymore. Not on-line anyway.

So Fox & Rose, a new web destination seeking for the very best in British underwear style, is a good locate- the web site has photography by Andrew Woffinden, which consists of lifestyle shots as properly as 360 degree item views- both a welcome touch!
