Meet the New Spring Bomber Jacket
It’s the Bomb

If fall was all about the varsity jackets, spring is about the bomber. Bomber jackets are a menswear-inspired trend (see: Givenchy’s Madonna-print versions) that is suddenly everywhere this spring. The jacket’s been re-imagined for girls in every fabric possible: Neoprene, lace, chiffon, leather, and Liberty-style florals. In short? It is the perfect spring coat.
Stella McCartney showed perfectly crisp white versions for spring, and even Harper Beckham has been photographed in one, so duh, it’s totally a trend.

Fashion Inspiration: Mean Girls

Official Promo Photo
Quite possibly the most-quoted movie of our generation, Mean Girls (2004) has quickly become a gen-Y classic. Seeing North Shore High through the eyes of Cady Heron has taught us valuable life lessons: joining the Mathletes is social suicide, butter is a carb, and the Plastics? They are teen royalty.
Mean Girls also can teach us a few things about style. While it may be impractical for us college students to sport mini skirts and pumps to class, you can use Regina George and her loyal followers as a source of fashion inspiration for your own everyday looks.
Below, I’ve created a few outfits inspired by Mean Girls. Get in, loser – we’re going shopping!
Old School TV Style: Fashion Inspired by Happy Days

Of all the old school TV shows we’ve covered here, Happy Days is perhaps the most nostalgic. Set in Milwaukee, the show tells the story of the Cunningham family during an idealized version of the mid-1950s through ’60s. The series, which premiered in the 1970s, was one of the first ever “period” TV shows, depicting the “simpler times” of decades past. The show would quickly become a phenomenon, launching seven different spin-off series and eventually a musical.
Seeking fashion inspiration from a show set sixty years ago might seem strange, but I was surprised to find that clothes worn on Happy Days are actually quite classic and timeless… and can totally be worn today. Read on to see what I mean!
3.1 Phillip Lim Pre-Fall 2013: An Editor’s Eye

Nowadays, those street style stars vying for Scott, Garance and Tommy‘s acknowledgement are increasingly influencing the very designers that dress them. Their madcap layering, tomboy-meets-ingenue styling, and statement-shoe confidence form the rhythm of contemporary fashion, a beat designers can’t ignore. For Pre-Fall 2013, it was as though Phillip Lim set out to debunk just what makes the girls outside the shows so darned captivating.
He curated all the pieces that these gals blend together to create their special brand of idiosyncrasy: A new take on the motorcycle jacket, the re-engineered sweat shirt featuring a baroque crest, and the convertible trench coat that can be worn in endless manners were all present and accounted for, as were structural neoprene dresses, the varsity bomber, and a take-no-prisoners buccaneer boot. Yes, the splashes of cheetah print, and punk detailing fell a bit short of fresh, but in a demi-season like Pre-Fall–far more driven by commerce than art–Lim’s sharp tailoring and hip proportions may well go the distance. What can’t be argued is that the collection delivered precisely the sort of novel staples that quickly move from rack to register.

4 Outfits Inspired by Preppy Schoolwear

I’m sure we can all agree that there’s nowhere quite like a college campus during the fall. With the changing leaves, old buildings, and academic ambiance, I can’t help but feel like I’m at Hogwarts or on the set of Dead Poets Society. Football games and chilly weather especially make me want to bundle up in a peacoat, sip hot cocoa, and figure out how lacrosse works. (In my dear ol’ Oklahoma, sports like field hockey, lacrosse, and rowing are almost impossible to come by.)
These reasons, among others, probably explain why I’m so intrigued by the look and feel of the prep schools I’ve come to know through TV shows, movies, and books. Something about preppy, athletic, and tailored styles leaves me feeling so inspired in the fall!
Fashion Inspiration: One Direction

Boy bands are back, and this time around, they hail from across the pond. Formed by Simon Cowell for the 2010 season of the UK X Element, One Direction consists of 5 guys: Niall, Louis, Zayn, Liam, and Harry. The guys entered the competition as solo acts and left as a group, coming in third on the show.
The British and Irish boys are making girls all more than the globe swoon, and they’ve got talent to back it up! You may well have heard their catchy single “What Tends to make You Beautiful” on the radio, or possibly even seen the song’s music video, which is at the moment number a single in the U.S. iTunes shop. Their initial album Up All Night debuted at number one particular on the U.S. Billboard chart, setting a new record for any British band. Following a brief tour co-headlining with Big Time Rush, the boys are scheduled to execute this summer in a full tour across America.

Report from Milan: For Boys & Girls

Take into account it typical expertise amongst the fashion community that when it comes to predicting trends in womenswear, the menswear collections in Milan and Paris can act as a sort of editor’s crystal ball.
Designers model their men’s wares almost nearly a full month ahead of women’s ready-to-wear hits the New York runways in the second week of February. Of course, 1 can never ever predict with 100% certainty that a trend will transcend the genders, but, getting just returned from a quick and furious Autumn Winter 2012 season in Milan—where we saw some quite directional and extremely powerful decisions by the most influential designers—I feel we can make a decent case.
ELLE Editors Dish On Their Halloween Costumes!
What we imagine Joe will look like as a cater waiter dinosaur.
Anne Slowey, Fashion News Director, mother of Afton, (almost) 1-year-old.
“Afton’s going to Stella McCartney’s party tonight as a chicken.”
Joe Zee, Creative Director
“I’m going as a Cater Waiter dinosaur because I’m just a dinosaur trying to get by. It’s tough out there—ask those people at Occupy Wall Street. Work for dinosaurs has really dried up since the Jurassic Park movies went away and we’re hoping for a resurgence with the release of the Jurassic Park trilogy box set coming out on DVD next week.”
