Exclusive: rising from the deep
Projecting the a lot of-coloured connotations of scuba diving onto the canvas of fashion doesn’t have to be limited to just the obvious neoprene. The wonder of that underwater globe – of deep, clear blue ocean, vibrant reefs and curious fishes – can take shape in prints, textures, cuts, and colours.
In this editorial styled by Rachel Harris, slick garments grow to be a second skin – turning the model into a living component of that underwater globe that’s emerged onto dry land. The thickly insulating texture of neoprene, the bold fluro colours of surf wear, the slick silhouette of the diver, are all morphed into outfits of contemporary, sporty sexiness. And the finishing touch? Jewellery that reflects the colours and textures of coral and beachside geology.
It takes the right photography to bring out the crucial aspects of colour and light in a sea-themed shoot such as this one – and Phillip Papadis captures is perfectly.
Underwater Photography By Nadia Moro
Continuing my fascination with underwater photography, there’s a new Behind The Surface series by Italian photographer Nadia Moro. Mostly known for her work with Neo2, this underwater project isn’t currently linked to any fashion/magazine issue.
Artistically challenging, the underwater medium brings out something spectacular both from the photographer and the models. The fabrics, essential in the underwater photography overall percentage have an equally (if not more) visual importance in the final result’s aesthetics. Being more a texture and movement study, underwater photography will always arouse my curiosity. And I hope yours too. (more images right after the jump, click here for the gallery!) (via 1, 2)
