The Tattoo Book: Scott Campbell If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long

Although I wouldn’t necessarily call this a coffee table book – who would just sit quietly, sipping on a cup of cappuccino flipping through pages of far more or less identified people who’d had ink carried out and they’re showing it off? I assume finding a tattoo is a commitment that goes beyond time and style. It’s your personality’s ink perspiration. Show it or hide it, a tattoo is there for life. Unless you make a decision otherwise and then you’ll have the scar for life.

So just in case it wasn’t clear adequate – tattoos are there to keep! Scott Campbell’s inking art discovered so a lot of men and women willing to wear it that the man became popular in his personal correct. In his own art. Scott Campbell is a man of ink and art. And now he has a book to show it (and there’s much more than just tattooed skin inside, as Scott Campbell discovered more interesting canvas to use his tools on).

208 pages with written words by Al Moran, Justin Theroux and Richard Price and photographs by uncle Terry (it is difficult to go around his “work” these days). Scott Campbell’s book discovered a teasing title for its front cover: If You Do not Belong, Don’t Be Extended. Belong where? In the inked club, duh! So? Ready to be / extended? (if you are interested, hereby some inside photographs from the book readily available here)

Looks on Campus: Akasha – Point Park University

With how windy it’s been the past week in downtown Pittsburgh, it’s a courageous feat to put on a dress or skirt, given the risk of pulling a Marilyn Monroe circa Seven Year Itch. Akasha, however, is fairly style fearless. She’s not afraid to blend girly with edgy and she always accessorizes with a smile. I just knew she’d make a fabulous Looks on Campus candidate.

It is been 4 years considering that we’ve heard new material from the Virgins, 2008’s coolest band, heirs to the Strokes’ created-in-NYC mantle, style favorites, and swordsmen supreme.  4 years is a presidency.  It is a Civil War.  A lot can adjust.  A band can lose its guitarist, for instance (Wade Oats, famous for snogging Lily Allen, has been replaced by Xan Aird boyish drummer John Eatherly has also been added to the group).  But others things can remain the identical: the Virgins are still extremely intent on showing you that they do not give a hoot they nonetheless sound young and brash and extremely NYC.

The band, who will be playing little shows and parties around the city in the coming months, is rehearsing its new album, which they have however to record. “We don’t know exactly how it sounds, but the songs sound…good” said singer Donald Cummings, when we sat down for a handful of minutes before the show.  “We wrote most of it in the last month.”

Last Monday, as part of Absolut Vodka’s “Encore” concert series, a crush of fans, sardined into Le Baron, had a likelihood to hear some of this new material, songs like “Island Girl,” “Blue Rose Tattoo,” “Prima Maria,” “Flowers,” and “Fast Times.”   The sound was much less dancey than the first record, instead flirting with classic rock and heavy undercurrents of Complete Moon Fever-era Tom Petty.  Those who miss seeing the band as a lot as hearing them will be comforted to know that their cheeky style’s nevertheless extremely significantly intact, evident in Cummings’ thrift shop rocker tee, and Eatherly’s “Comme Des Fuck Down” sweatshirt (“I saw A$ ap Rocky wearing it in that video,” he provided, by way of explanation).  For Cummings, the style sector is “Kinda sketchy.  It’s weird to see so a lot funds and attention going to something that is all about aesthetics, and typically doesn’t go a lot deeper,” he mentioned.  “But I like to assistance companies that make their stuff in America, and have good policies for their employers.  We’re going to make some merch, and we’re going to try and find a T-shirt firm that does all of that stuff locally.”  As if remembering what the industry’s accomplished for his band, he added, “Fashion is cool, but it is also cool to know exactly where your clothes come from, and the practices involved in how they get created.”
