Geek Chic: Fashion Inspired by Marvel’s The Avengers

You know that tingly sensation of awe and excitement you get right after seeing a truly great film? Properly, apart from leaving me with a serious hankering for shawarma, Marvel’s The Avengers undoubtedly gave me that oh-my-gosh-you-guys-let’s-watch-that-yet again feeling. Its all-star cast includes Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, and Cobie Smulders.
I saw the movie last Saturday night, but I still can’t cease thinking about it all: the epic battle scenes, the hilarious a single-liners, the seriously attractive cast, and of course, the style! And what far better way to channel my newfound obsession with comic books and superheroes than with a Geek Chic fashion post?

Gia Coppola Stars in New Whetherly Look Book–Is She the New ‘It’ Coppola?
Sofia Coppola‘s 24-year-old niece (and Francis Ford Coppola’s granddaughter) Gia may be next in line to achieve fashion it girl status. Most recently, Whetherly’s spring 2012 look book, in which Gia stars, just landed in our inbox, and it proves that in addition to directing cute fashion films, taking photos, acting and being enviably well-dressed all the time, she can model.
Her fashion directorial debut was a short film for Zac Posen’s Target collaboration two years ago starring girl group The Like. Posen once said, “She’s going to be the next Coppola force to be reckoned with.” And he is probably right. She has since directed two films for Opening Ceremony, one of which starred Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman; Orla Kiely’s Spring 2011 short film and Wren’s Spring 2012 short film. They all have a feminine, youthful California vibe with Sofia-esque themes and a timelessness that is pretty unique. You can check them all out here. She also told WSJ that she wants to do more narrative films and plans to direct a screen adaptation of James Franco’s Palo Alto stories.
Like Sofia, Gia has the rare ability to do great things both behind the camera and in front of it, with this look book, A.P.C. campaigns, Araks’ fall look book, a few magazine spots as well as consistently chic red carpet, front row and party appearances. She shows up at Chanel dinners, Valentino parties and Lanvin runway shows in effortlessly chic and minimal looks that, on her gamine frame, are reminiscent of her stylish aunt. They share a penchant for A.P.C. basics, feminine, unfussy frocks and flats (and the same short haircut).
Loup Charmant: ancient memories & exotic appeal
“Like an ancient memory of a world we once knew…”
Loup Charmant’s spring 2012 look book has an appeal both ancient and exotic. It conjures up the scent of palm leaves and sand and the humidity of balmy summer nights away from home. The brand’s own description says it best in the quote above – an ancient memory of a world we once knew.
