The Vidal Sassoon Effect: A Look Back at His Famous Cuts From the 1960s to Now

The Vidal Sassoon Effect: A Look Back at His Famous Cuts From the 1960s to Now

The globe of beauty lost a genius right now. Vidal Sassoon pioneered so-called prepared-to-put on hair–no rollers, dryer, or hair spray required. He was the father of the bob and the shorter, much more geometric five point cut. It was a shocking appear in the 60s, but 1 that freed girls to do other factors (like go back to work!) and fit perfectly with the prevailing feeling of the time. Sassoon famously worked in London with style designer Mary Quant who was the personification of 60s mod. He also chopped Grace Coddington’s curly locks into a geometric shape. But his big moment was when he cut Mia Farrow’s hair prior to Rosemary’s Child in the 60s. The appear was shocking yet so ideal. It’s been perfect ever considering that. Read more…

Hi absolutely everyone, 1st up you may notice an immediate modify in these photos. I recently modelled for the L’oreal hair colour trophy and this involved finding my hair chopped off into a brief bob! So this is my very first review with my new shorter appear icon smile Connie Style Current/Elliott The Stiletto Skinny Jean

Today I am trying out ‘The Stiletto’ from Existing/Elliott. Continuing on the patterned denim trend these ones are the ‘sweet cream’ colourway and function a stunning delicate pink pattern.

I have never ever actually been one particular to wear white or paler coloured jeans, so these are an interesting adjust from my usual appear and I do truly actually love the colour and pattern on them. The pale and soft colour operates truly properly for producing a subtle statement with no going overboard on the print trend.

Arizona & Daphne Get Teased at Derek Lam

Estée Lauder makeup maestro Tom Pecheux coined the term propre décalé to describe the girl at Derek Lam: “She’s a university student who is suitable but also a tiny twisted—there’s one thing about her that is a bit off,” he said. To convey this subtle “naughtiness,” Pecheux crafted a smoky eye that spilled more than onto the lower lash line.

Hair also contained a hint of the unexpected, thanks to 1960s-inspired texture: coiffeur Orlando Pita developed a teased, pinned-back look on behalf of Phyto Expert and Beauty.com. “It’s a girl who doesn’t stick to all the guidelines,” he says. “After blow-drying the hair with Phyto Intense Volume Mousse, I’m making use of a curling iron for added texture and teasing with Phyto Fiber Paste.”

“I wasn’t in the chair that lengthy,” insists model Daphne Groeneveld when asked about her faux bob. Off the runway, though, she prefers to wear her platinum locks sleek and straight. “My hair is truly long—I got it cut a tiny bit and I was like, that is enough!”

Katy Perry reacts to split the old fashioned way and dyes her hair blue

katy perry blue hair thumb 600x514 147236 Katy Perry reacts to split the old fashioned way and dyes her hair blueFollowing her split with Russell Brand, Katy Perry has down what every single other celebrity seems to do soon after their reletionship ends – heads straight to the hairdresser.

The hair colour-changing addict (she does dye her hair really frequently) has began off the new year by dying her short bobbed hair a bright shade of electric blue, with dark searching roots, as revealed by a fan who bumped into her.

Paired with that red lipstick and her stars and stripes jacket, the result is screams USA – perhaps she’s attempting to distance herself from Russell’s English roots, which she’d been embracing whilst she was married (example tweet: “Bit late but…Just finished “This Is England ’86″ television series and I just wanna say… Shane Meadows… proper legend.”)

Raven hair, red lips

Dark, short hair with blunt micro bangs contrasted by edgy bleached eyebrows: is it coincidental that the Rooney Mara’s costume in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo referred to as for precisely the identical combination?

We anticipated that, as a 2012 hair trend, the ultra-short fringe would be helped along by its presence on the huge screen. Adding weight to that theory is this shoot for S Magazine starring Charlotte Tomaszewska.

Maja Naskretska’s styling hones in on the colour red. Red lips, red jewels, red coloured fur all pop against Tomaszewska’s milky skin and raven hair.

Hair how to: retro faux bob

The time we find ourselves in is one dominated by effortlessness. ‘Done’ hairstyles are, as such, a population in decline. The most admired glamour is the kind that moves, tousles, and looks nothing like a hair salon created it for a wedding.

But, if the runways are a reliable oracle, 2012 is a fascinating year for hair. In 2012 hair gets wet, it gets retro, it flows free and gets pinned up tight. The eras influencing fashion have much to answer for in the way of hair: the 20s and 30s give us bobs and finger waves, the 70s and 80s give us the kinds of glamour that come from blow dryers and tubes of gel respectively, the 50s rises to rockabilly heights and the 1960s has the most to answer for of all.

The trend towards 60s fashion gives us everything from Bardot bouffant bed hair to mod androgynous crops. It also brings back a unique opportunity to do a structured, pristine, ‘done’ style that defies effortlessness and still hits a trend note.

It’s as perfect as a Stepford wife, as ice cool as Betty Draper, as vintage as yesteryear and as modern as tomorrow. On the runway at Jil Sander spring 2012 this sculpted faux bob, inspired by the ’50s and ’60s, was a defining part of the ladylike yet easy aesthetic. And with the right styling, the right attitude, Jil Sander made a ‘done’ do somehow feel miraculously cool and even, contrarily, effortless.

The mod bob

When John F Kennedy was quoted saying, “Those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future,” the world should have given him credit for the not-so-closeted fashioniser in him.

In reality Kennedy was, without a doubt, talking about something much more serious in terms of politics, leadership, economy and technology, but as Fashionising.com readers you’ll know how we like to interpret words, images and clothes.

But despite the fact that fashion is always progressing towards the future, the coming year is all about anything but that. So much so, that it’s the perfect year for those of us who are nostalgic and cannot stop dreaming of the past, and an equally perfect year for those wont to follow fashion designers whose creative minds draw inspiration from the years gone by.

While there are certainly other decades of influence, one of the biggest 2012 fashion trends that’s defining the year is the 1960s fashion revival. First runway shows aplenty had a sixties-makeover and then the London look presented us with a modern Swinging Sixties muse. With many a fashion accessory also taking inspiration from the sixties, it was almost certain that women’s hairstyles would quickly get inline with the evolving trend.
