As New York Fashion Week comes to a close there are dozens of trends to digest, but if we stick with beauty for a minute, we’ll see a penchant for high-wattage hair and dramatic makeup.  Specifically, come September, prepare for a barrage of faux crops, intricate nail art and really moody mouths.

Faux Bobs
Approach commitment to your lock length like a New York man to a severe relationship: We’re saying, indulge in the faux-bob. A flirty, cropped ‘do is yours for the taking, until of course you change your mind, unpinning it to return to your routinely scheduled tumbling mane. Theda Bara inspired the marcel-waved faux bobs that Serge Normant sculpted behind the scenes at L’Wren Scott. For Oscar de la Renta, Orlando Pita fashioned a faux bob utilizing T3 merchandise for volume prior to fastening a bejweled satin ribbon about the hairline. At Derek Lam, Pita developed a 1960s-like teased, pinned back look on behalf of Phyto Skilled and Beauty.com. Odile Gilbert’s take on the trend yielded a slightly disheveled texture at Rodarte, even though a slew of star-studded hair pins added polish. For a flapper really feel at Erickson Beamon, the hairstyle was smooth soft curls coiled with a small barreled curling iron and pinned underneath the nape.

Manicure Mania
Nail art swept the runways this season thanks to dozens of talented talon-tenders backstage.  It was all about leather at The Blonds: Kristina Estabrooks for CND developed numerous styles like patchwork nails or of leather, gold and black shards, fire nails, hand-painted skulls, portraits of Philippe, and even a Michael Jackson iteration. At Jeremy Scott, cyber rainbow nails took center stage, while groovy Austin Powers-like manicures rocked the runway at Nicole Miller. At Rachel Antonoff, CND’s Candice Manacchio replicated the fern style featured in the collection onto the models’ nails while at three.1 Philip Lim, Essie Weingarten developed an ominous nail based on the designer’s memory of the panel shading utilized in comic books: she utilized one particular coat of Licorice, then a thin strip of Chinchilly around the outer edge of the nail, which was highlighted with Blanc.

Fug Girls: Fleshy Fun and Lil’ Kim at The Blonds

The Blonds is often the most celebratory way to end (well, virtually) Fashion Week: Everyone is thrilled to be there and complete of raucous power and even more raucous costumes. At the show Wednesday night, we saw almost everything from a dude with a homemade patchwork stuffed animal that matched his pants, to a man with eight-inch hair spikes in all directions, to a woman wearing black nipple pasties and a g-string. And even when the aforementioned woman created a point of jumping up and down to show her friend how well her pastie worked, the vibe managed to be exuberant and carefree instead of “Holy hell, that is a lot of underboob.”

The only thing greater than a star-packed front row is a single with a random mix, as it’s 1 of the few instances you get to see celebrities—ones you’d in no way ever anticipate to see in the same place—forced to socialize. It turns out that all of the factors that make sitting subsequent to a stranger a pain for normal people—from awkward introductions to forced chit-chat—apply to the wealthy and famous, too. Feel Kim Kardashian and Rachel Roy generating tiny speak at Vera Wang, or Leigh Lezark shifting uncomfortably subsequent to Lindsay Lohan at Cynthia Rowley, as was the case last September.

BCBG Max Azria, the initial official show of Fashion Week, keeps the tradition alive this season. The front row had no shortage of huge names, but you got the feeling that most had been meeting for the 1st time. Giada DeLaurentis, identified greater for what she whips up in the kitchen than in the closet, was wedged amongst Tv personality Jeannie Mai and Added co-host Maria Menounos. To their right was Jane By Design’s Erica Dasher (all front rows require an up-and-coming ingénue), whilst to their left was Erin Wasson, who gamely smiled when her legs became Cory Kennedy’s armrest. Model Jessica White, seated on the other side of Wasson, seemed to hide behind her wide-brimmed hat whenever photographers zoomed in on the trio.

Arbitrary? Yes. But there may possibly have been some thing behind it: the clothing. The fall ’12 collection was all about uniting pieces that don’t seem to go together, and but somehow operate. “An artful proposition: harmoniously synthesize shape and color in new elongated proportions, fusing form and function,” explained the press notes.  If ever there was a front row equivalent to pairing floaty chiffon dresses paired with heavy patchwork furs, this was it.
