Peter and Harry Brant on Doing a Reality TV Show, Being Like Hannah Montana, and Climbing Palazzo Walls

At Thursday night’s occasion celebrating Jitrois’ new pop-up store in SoHo (which is super chic and inviting, btw) I had the pleasure of talking to the hosts of the night: Brothers Peter and Harry Brant, who you could know as “the world’s luckiest teenage homosexuals” (according to Gawker, anyway). London’s WAH Nails Makes A Splash Stateside
The cover of Reid’s book.
Sharmadean Reid does not really remember a time in which she wasn’t obtaining her nails carried out. Reid, a former trend consultant, stylist and zine-maker, is the force behind London’s WAH nails, the go-to spot for ombre leopard nails, studded Aztec designs, or whatever else you can dream up (and fit on your fingernail). She’s in New York for a few days for a private pop-up and a raging party (held last night, at the W Hotel in Union Square), but also for the sake of her initial book, WAH Nails.
Reid began her salon in 2008, a good year or two just before nail art-mania started sweeping the globe. “I’d do these large trend reports for main brands about what was going to be cool and pull these trends from diverse sub cultures and I noticed that fashion magazines would commence to have a cool nail in a shoot—not a nail shoot, nail pages didn’t exist when I began the salon, but just a single nail—so I’d just be seeking at the nails in a shoot with a magnifying glass when they started out to be fascinating,” Reid explained. She figured if she and her close friends were into it, and high style was into it, there was a thing to the notion of nail art. “The way that trends function, it can not just be a modest group of individuals in a single place performing it, it has to have reach.”
Right after a handful of negative experiences in LA and New York—”The whole procedure was a bit fussy”—followed by one particular particularly “stressful” occasion in London where the technician wouldn’t give her the Dior nails she asked for, Reid went residence and told her boyfriend that she was going to open her personal store. A couple of months later, with construction on her salon effectively below way, Reid launched a sort of pop-up in a fitness center in Shoreditch. “A cool gym with cool girls,” she says, “And it went crazy. Oh my goodness I just invited all my girlfriends and we did totally free nails and even then, when I look back at the nails from that night, they appear so crap! But they had been still better than what was being provided.”
Fashion Inspiration: One Direction

Photo: Pacific Coast News
Boy bands are back, and this time around, they hail from across the pond. Formed by Simon Cowell for the 2010 season of the UK X Element, One Direction consists of 5 guys: Niall, Louis, Zayn, Liam, and Harry. The guys entered the competition as solo acts and left as a group, coming in third on the show.
The British and Irish boys are making girls all more than the globe swoon, and they’ve got talent to back it up! You may well have heard their catchy single “What Tends to make You Beautiful” on the radio, or possibly even seen the song’s music video, which is at the moment number a single in the U.S. iTunes shop. Their initial album Up All Night debuted at number one particular on the U.S. Billboard chart, setting a new record for any British band. Following a brief tour co-headlining with Big Time Rush, the boys are scheduled to execute this summer in a full tour across America.

Real-Life Style Challenge: Borrowing from the Boys

This week’s Actual-Life Style Challenge is inspired by our pals of the opposite sex. Menswear-inspired style for females has been generating the rounds at fashion week for a lot of seasons now. We’ve covered the menswear trend here ahead of, but this week I’m taking the look to the streets and testing it for real.
The Challenge:
This week’s challenge is to style a week’s worth of outfits featuring menswear-inspired pieces, (or items that have historically been related far more with menswear than womenswear) which includes boy blazers, oxford shoes, and button-down shirts. Prepared to see how it goes? Read on!

VH1’s Stevie Ryan on How to Be a Kardashian
Photo: Stevie Television
For almost six years, Stevie Ryan, 25, has been uploading hilariously wonky pop culture impressions to YouTube, amassing a cult following that can now tune into her new show, Stevie Tv, premiering on VH1 this Sunday at 11 pm. Ryan brings all her go-to, lampoon-prepared characters to table, such as Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, and even a Actual Housewife or two. Beneath, she breaks down their pop culture essence.
ELLE: What does it take to turn into Kim Kardashian?
Stevie Ryan: White, bedazzled dresses, sculpting powder, contouring makeup, highlighter, and bronzer. But I do not actually really feel the character until I place on my 3 butts. I’m not lying—it’s literally 3 butts stuffed with padding. And when I put on those on and put on my long 22-inch dark wig, I genuinely really feel like a Kardashian.
ELLE: Break down the Biebs for us.
SR: We in fact bind down my boobs with ACE bandage, and it gets so tight and hurts so a lot that I get actually poor heartburn from it. Then we put a sock in my underwear—you know, to get the true effect. It’s…awkward. Then of course I often have to have a hoodie, a baseball cap, and some thing purple. For Justin, I constantly need some thing purple.
Bebe Buell Talks Boyfriends, Music & That Dirty Word
Photo: Alan Mercer
Bebe Buell’s life is what blockbuster movies are made of. In the seventies, she was a successful fashion model—not to mention 1974′s November Playmate of the Month—and Max’s Kansas City standard, exactly where she sang into hairbrushes with Patti Smith and befriended (then dated) a lot of a legendary rock musician such as Elvis Costello, Todd Rundgren, and Steven Tyler. Nowadays, she’s most likely much better identified as Liv Tyler’s mother, but the 58-year-old’s about to adjust that with her first significant album, Difficult Adore, a set of grunge-meets-glam-rock tracks in which Buell’s raspy wail demands listeners spend attention.
As of late, Buell’s dreams of getting on stage instead of backstage are operating out pretty nicely. Last week, she played a packed New York Fashion Week bash to a sea of bouncing hipsters and the first few days of March will discover her rocking out at the Tough Rock Cafe in Hollywood, Florida. She’s most excited, even so, to play Hiro Ballroom’s final blowout at the end of the month. We had a opportunity to meet the kick-ass Buell in between rehearsals of her upcoming a single woman show and chatted for practically two hours about everything from those renowned boyfriends to posing nude to effectively raising Liv. If we learned a single thing, it is why you ought to never, ever call Bebe a groupie, but you possibly want to read the rest.
ELLE: You are suddenly carrying out a million different issues, why now?
BB: I listen to the fans. I’m not a corporate machine. I’m not Lady Gaga, I’m not Madonna, I don’t have a million dollars behind me and large giant record businesses. I am an organic artist. I really do what I do because of a really rabid fan base, but of course, an artist like me also fights demographics simply because, if you attempt to say to someone who’s never ever seen me, “Oh, you’ve gotta see this, it’s outstanding,” they cannot wrap their head about it. I’m not 15 and I’m not somebody who has a thousand hit records under my belt. The musicians that play with me are all world class. Small by little, I just maintain producing a lot more strides. I’m not gonna call myself the small engine that could simply because I’m 5’10 and I’m far from little—I’m the small engine that roared. Now I’ve got a fever about what I’m undertaking, because I think it’s crucial for girls to make this kind of statement, not to have an expiration date.
An End of Week Treat!
From left to correct, Matthew Hit, Noma Han and Lyle Lodwick.
Soon after a week’s worth of chatting with a slew of beautiful ladies—from supermodels Lara Stone and Coco Rocha to buzzed-about beauties Ashley Smith and Ajak Deng—it’s time for a bonus round. We plucked 3 male models from the center of New York fashion week and subjected them to our model questionnaire. Amongst Matthew Hitt, Noma Han, and Lyle Lodwick, they’ve walked everything from Balenciaga and Marc Jacobs to Lanvin and Band of Outsiders. Not to mention, two are budding rock musicians, yet another is concerned with shrinking his ear-plug gauge size, and one particular has a penchant for Prada dresses. Let the guessing games begin…
MATTHEW HITT
Age: 24
Hometown: Rhondda Valley, Wales. Now I live downtown.
Zodiac Sign: Gemini.
Model crush: LOL.
Finest party this week: The Band of Outsiders dinner was beautiful. We ate meatballs and drank whiskey.
Song currently stuck in your head: “Satan Rejected my Soul” by Morrissey.
Existing Obsession: Eating. When I eat it is the food that is scared.
If you weren’t a model, you’d be: Waiting in line at the Labour Exchange.
Something we don’t know about you: Sister, I’m a poet.
Who makes you LOL on Twitter? Adam Green @averagecabbage
Most embarrassing model moment: I bear in mind slipping in the course of my very first season. The gasps from the front row were not comforting.
Favorite show: I like undertaking Patrik’s shows.
Evan Rachel Wood’s Not a “Little Sissy Girl”
Photo: Getty Images
Getting a style chameleon and red-carpet normal, you’d consider Evan Rachel Wood was in New York for Fashion Week. But when we spoke with her at her Mark Hotel suite, she revealed she was really in town to film—gasp!—a romantic comedy. “After so many dramas, I’m undertaking my very first rom-com!” she enthuses. “I’m super excited about it. It’s named A Case of You and it also stars Justin Extended, Vince Vaughn, and Sam Rockwell, who are all truly funny.”
Wood’s junior high boyfriend also sounds pretty funny. Extended before she became the face of Gucci Guilty and Gucci Guilty Intense fragrances, she says her go-to was Victoria’s Secret Strawberries & Champagne. “I’m not even kidding!” she laughs. “I think a lot of girls went via that stage. I started wearing their perfume the second I began thinking about boys. And it entirely worked—I got a boyfriend and he would take my empty bottles of Strawberries & Champagne and smell them whenever he missed me and I wasn’t there.”
Weird? Not so, says Wood: “We all do it. It’s just like when we take someone’s shirt when they’re away—we smell it and it is like, ahhhh. You feel like they’re there with you.”
