By now, you’ve probably heard the buzz surrounding Suzanne Collins’s popular young adult trilogy The Hunger Games. With the first movie adaptation coming out in a little over two weeks (March 23rd!), it’s prime time for a Geek Chic post about fashion inspired by Panem!
The Hunger Games is an addictive blend of dystopian horror novel, action thriller, makeover show, star-crossed romance, and Project Runway. For a YA book, it’s surprisingly heavy stuff, with a ton of graphic violence and implied social commentary. The movie adaptation stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth as romantic triangle members Katniss, Peeta, and Gale.

British Fashion Awards: Beauty Tricks

We’re still mining the images from this week’s British Fashion Awards, and noticed a few beauty tricks which stood out on the night. Louise Gray‘s eclectic eyeshadow- showing up inked on neons lined up on top of each other- provided the perfect compliment to her zany whistle earrings. And not just that, the designer modelled a make up trend used on her last catwalk- talk about a one woman advertisement!
Alexa Chung rolls on with her ‘if it ain’t broke’ mentality by pairing her diamond-inspired winter dress with fluffed up bed hair. No wonder the experts think she represents London style best- gorgeous jewelled dress offset with a shaggy do. Very patriotic Alexa!
Sky Ferreira & Lara Stone Made Out for Calvin Klein

Calvin Klein’s Ck One Shock fragrances have arrived on store shelves—and now, the racy ad campaign starring fashion’s cool kids is hitting magazines and TV screens. Yesterday, we sat down with several members of the tight-knit cast (they all worked together on the revamped Ck One campaign earlier this year) to get the behind-the-scenes scoop. Below, we chat with Rob Evans, Sky Ferreira, and Ian Mellencamp about their steamy Steven Meisel photos after the jump!
What was the mood like at the shoot? It looks like it was pretty hot!
Rob Evans: They instructed me and Lara Stone to go into this room and make out—and I took full advantage of that! But then they told everyone to go into the room and make out. So I’d be kissing Lara and Ruby Aldridge would be kissing my neck and I just thought, this is not going to make the cut!
Sky Ferreira: I had to do some girl-on-girl. I made out with Lara too! I thought they would’ve chosen a way hotter girl than me for that. Like one of the real models. I came up to her chest, so they told us to sit down and kiss. I just let her take the lead because I didn’t want to offend her in any way. There was no tongue or anything, so it wasn’t too racy. It was sweet and innocent. Well, kind of!
Did you get to pick who you were paired up with?
Ian Mellencamp: No, it was like speed dating! I was put with Ruby. It was my first time making out with someone on camera, but the atmosphere helped make it less awkward.
RE: Yeah, it also wasn’t as awkward because we already knew everyone from the Ck One shoot that we did before. Everyone was a bit more comfortable this time.

Gone are all the Topshop years when we could freely browse and buy pieces inspired by Kate Moss’ wardrobe (also designed by her. Allegedly). Kate is a grown up now. From Topshop through Longchamp now to a Fred Jewelry collection: a pretty sparkling design trajectory, if you ask me!
Kate Moss for Fred Jewelry Collection is inspired by Kate Moss’ tattoos. There’s no word if she has so many, but the collection is comprised of 22 styles with prices ranging from $ 473 to $ 47,300. Pretty far from her Topshop prices, huh? Knowing Kate, however, I’m guessing this will also be a success. Doubts, anyone?

Japanese Girl w/ Piercings, Tattoos & Super Lovers x George Cox Creepers
This is Lucia, a Japanese go-go dancer with braided hair – as effectively as several cool piercings and tattoos – that we met on the street in Harajuku.
Lucia’s dark edgy appear functions a “Lagrimas De Maria” t-shirt from the Japanese rock band Sorrow (RIP Kaori Kawamura), a Vivienne Westwood denim skirt, ruffle socks, and George Cox x Super Lovers platform creepers. She’s also carrying a large black leather bag with a Vivienne Westwood bear attached to it. Accessories include a hair bandana, gauged earrings, a labret piercing, a cherry-on-a-chain necklace, an SWC skull-&-crown necklace, a Nixon watch, and a significant bow ring.
When we asked Lucia about her favorite fashion brand, she mentioned “Vivienne Westwood”.

Scott Campbell Worked For Louis Vuitton
Remember Scott Campbell and Marc Jacobs’ fascination with his work? The tattoo deity the fashworld is swearing on? Well, Marc Jacobs decided to bring Scott out of his tattoo parlor and put him on the catwalk. Because he’s worth it!
So he went on tattooing bags and models. For the Louis Vuitton’s men collection, Spring Summer 2011. We’ve seen so many tattoo fashmadness around, we won’t feel surprised when seeing a model’s neck tattooed with LV monograms. Won’t we? Now about the laser tattooed bags – it’s another story – why everyone seems to think that tattoos are a man’s worth/world? (photos via)
