Skechers Could Pay As Much As $75 Million for False Claims About Its Toning Shoes
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is cracking down on false advertising claims, and toning shoes have been its latest target. Back in September, Reebok had to pay $ 25 million in refunds to consumers for making false claims about the benefits of its so-called toning shoes.
Skechers is next up for scrutiny, and the company is bracing itself for having to make a large payout. Footwear News reports that the FTC and agencies in other countries are still investigating claims made by the company about its ShapeUps toning shoes. And even Skechers acknowledges that it may be in trouble. Skechers said in a statement, “Based on discussions with the FTC staff, the company does not believe that the FTC’s pending inquiry into the company’s toning products will likely end in a closure letter assuring no further regulatory action.”
Analysts agree that Skechers is probably screwed, based on the settlement that Reebok had to pay. Skechers’ toning business was more than twice the size of Reebok’s in 2009-2010 (the years in question), so industry analysts predict that the company may have to cough up as much as $ 50 million to $ 75 million to consumers in refunds. Yikes. Skechers is going to fight the investigations and try to defend its advertising claims, but it isn’t looking good for them. Basically, if you made toning shoes a few years ago, it sucks to be you. According to analysts, “Toning is a tough category to be in. Anyone who quantified benefits of toning product is going to be [fair game for the FTC].”

The wedding reception in itself, although completely lacked of imagination and finesse, based on a black and white theme, revolved around the bride: Kim Kardashian wore no less than three wedding dresses, all designed by Vera Wang! How exquisite is that?

Okay, deep breath: Kate Middleton, Kate Moss, Kim Kardashian, Sofia Coppola, Josephine de la Baume, Reese Witherspoon, Lily Allen, Rachel Weisz, Lily Aldridge…2011 has been a biggie for celebrity weddings, no? And the latest star to tie the knot is leggy lovely Molly Sims.
The Big Day took place in Napa Valley last weekend and being a bona fide supermodel, Molly naturally looked divine wearing a white Marchesa confection. The gown featured loose lace sleeves and a tight bodice perfect for showing of her lithe frame and flared out into a full, but not OTT, mermaid skirt. Her hair was pulled into a Sarah Jessica Parker-esque ballerina bun with a simple sheer veil attached. She accessorized with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and as she walked up the petal-strewn aisle, the bride held a peach-colored bouquet. Meanwhile, producer Scott Stuber, was Molly’s dapper groom in a black Tom Ford tuxedo and white tie.

A Baby Kardashian’s Walking Avril’s Runway Show

In today’s Kardashian news, Kylie Jenner—one of Kourtney, Kim and Khloe’s younger step-sisters—will walk a New York Fashion Week Runway this week. Which one? Avril Lavigne’s. Avril dates Brody Jenner, who’s also half-sibling to all the Ks, which means if they get married Avril will be a Kardashian-in-law so her sort of sisters are offering their fashion week support.
The show is next week at the Metropolitan Pavillion in New York and despite Kylie’s age, she’s only 14, she’ll take three turns on the catwalk. Fashionista asked the CFDA’s Steven Kolb what he thinks about this, especially given last week’s decree in which designers were asked to check models’ IDs at castings. Kolb said, “The CFDA Health Initiative guidelines are suggested recommendations put forth for the industry. The latest version has been distributed widely. We are not in a position to police or enforce these recommendations. We can only hope that they are followed and taken seriously and are happy that so many in our industry are acting responsible.” As a side note, WWD also mentions that Kim and Kourtney might sit front row on Monday.

It’s been a busy few weeks for Vera Wang. Not only did she dress the entire Kardashian clan for Kim’s wedding,but she also purchased a new house in LA, launched her Lovestruck fragrance, and designed her Spring 2012 collection. Wang, who will send her latest works of wearable art down the runway on September 13th, took a break to talk inspiration, or lack thereof with Glam.
What’s inspiring you now?
It’s never just one thing. I’m always criticized for not doing color, everyone’s always saying ‘Vera does black and gray and she’s depressed and it’s dark and it’s goth’ so I think there will be a surprise this time. I don’t want to say, but it will be a little bit of a surprise.
You’ve been spending lots of time on the West Coast but you’re a New Yorker at heart; what are some NY things you are loving right now?
I’m getting very excited about Fashion’s Night Out because I think its good for our industry. I’m happy about the weather because this was one of the worst winters I can remember, and I’m really excited to see the shows because I’m a fashionista and I love Fashion Week.

Kim concocts her mask of avocados, honey, buttermilk, yogurt and oats – then she smears the masque onto her clean skin and leaves on for 10 minutes. Kim Kardashian’s Drug Store False Eyelashes
Kim Kardashian loves wearing her false lashes – but she applies them in a way that make them look totally natural! Kim’s makeup artist shared some times with People magazine on how to apply the perfect false lash just like Kim does!
- First, be sure to apply lashes in a natural feathering pattern. So starting at the inner eye, place individual lashes in places where you natural lash line is sparse.
- For an easy application tilt your head up and look down so you can easily touch your lashline while looking on the mirror.
- Allow your lashes to dry for at least a few minutes (wait 10 minutes if you have just to be safe!) before you apply mascara. Be careful not to apply too much mascara to the false lashes.
