Denim Icon Of 2011 – Pippa’s Ass

pippa middleton butt thumb 466x303 83514 Denim Icon Of 2011 Pippas Ass

It’s that time of the year exactly where we here at Denimology put our heads together and determine who we believe has been the Denim Icon Of The Year. This years Denim Icon was a quite challenging choice. We hummed and hawed for a few days. We quarreled (just a bit) more than it even becoming a pair of jeans. Alas, Andy reminded me, we only had one stand out this year and it definitely wasn’t the person in the jeans but just her Asset.

In previous years the denim icon selected has often virtually constantly been a celebrity – past winners have included Rihanna (2009), Katie Holmes (2008) and Kate Moss (2006) except for final year when the celebrity globe located it had some competition as 2010. Regular men and women (that are exceptionally beautiful, thin and stylish) produced their own style statements online and the world started taking notice. 2010 was the year of the style blogger.

Our Denim Icon Of 2011 as selected by the Denimology crew is not Pippa Middleton, but just Pippa’s ass.

Anne Hathaway On Boys, Books & McQueen

It’s an intriguing idea—measuring your life by seeking back at the exact same day of each year. For Anne Hathaway’s character in 1 Day, it is July 15, 1988, the day she graduates from the University of Edinburgh and practically hooks up with her dreamy classmate, played by Jim Sturgess.

One Day, adapted by David Nicholls from his very best-selling novel and beautifully realized by Lone Scherfig, the fine director of 2009’s Oscar-nominated An Education, zooms in on each and every July 15 because.  Hathaway’s Emma Morley and Stugess’ Dexter Mayhew go through cohabitation, marriage, divorce and children—with other partners—while navigating the delicate boundaries between friendship, flirtation and romance.

Emma is a sensitive, grounded, witty young writer struggling to figure out her place in the world and reconcile her unrequited adore for Dexter, who’s grown into a rakish Tv personality with a coke habit.  In a way, it is the ideal film for any wise girl who struggles to balance her heart and her head (who, despite the fact that she knows greater, follows her heart a lot more often than her head).   It’s also a welcome respite from the superficial romcoms which pass as films about modern day relationships.

Kate Middleton recycles coat for Duke of Edinburgh’s 90th birthday

Despite now being Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton hasn’t given up her old thrifty ways. At the 90th birthday celebrations for the Duke of Edinburgh, Kate recycled an old favourite coat which she also wore to the 2009 wedding of her husband’s close friend, Nicholas van Cutsem.

The periwinkle blue jacquard coat was the final in a series of recycled outfits she has donned over the past few days. A day earlier she attended the nuptials of close friend Sam Waley-Cohen wearing a black and white silk cocktail dress with matching black fascinator. Funnily enough she first wore the dress back in 2007 when she was spotted on a night out with Pippa during a brief split from Prince William.

What do you think of Kate’s recycled style? Tell us by commenting below.

Kate Middleton Smelled Like White Gardenia Petals on Her Wedding Day

kate1 Kate Middleton Smelled Like White Gardenia Petals on Her Wedding DayWhy has no one been talking about Kate Middleton’s wedding perfume? A scent can be the ultimate accessory (though obviously it’s difficult to take a picture of someone’s smell). If you want to be very thorough in knocking off Kate’s wedding, one must know these details.

Basenotes, a very comprehensive and brainy fragrance blog, broke the news that Kate wore White Gardenia Petals by Illuminum. Never heard of Illuminum? The line’s English founder, Michael Boadi, is a former celebrity and runway hair stylist. He launched a first line of perfumes (with the questionable name of Boadicea the Victorious), which currently has 35 fragrances. Michelle Obama purchased three of them back in 2009.

So Michael already has a history with sartorially influential women who live in the public eye. He just launched Illuminum in 2010, which is a line of simple perfumes that only contain eight ingredients each (to give perspective, some fragrances contain 500). Sounds like it’s right up Kate’s alley. How did she even find this fragrance?

Picture 34 150x217 Kate Middleton Smelled Like White Gardenia Petals on Her Wedding DayAn interview on Fragrantica at the end of March points out in Michael Boadi’s bio that he’s worked with Mario Testino. Hmmmm. Connection there? Testino did the lovely couple’s engagement photos.

Nicole Richie’s Met Ball Design for Britt Maren: Inspired by Alexander McQueen

When model Britt Maren ascends the staircase at tonight’s Costume Institute Gala, she will sport a custom dress by a well-known designer: Nicole Richie! After revealing to WWD that the Winter Kate dress is “pretty major,” reps confirm to PEOPLE that in addition to designing for Maren, Richie will also attend the event alongside her model muse. When she debuted Winter Kate in 2009, Richie told PEOPLE she was inspired by the 1960s and ’70s, plus music and people of the past. This year’s Met Ball will honor one such individual, the late Alexander McQueen, whose unique aesthetic had a veritable impact on Richie’s design process. “McQueen was such a visionary,” Richie tells PEOPLE of the couturier, whose eponymous collection was worn by newlywed Kate Middleton. “It would be hard not to find elements of the dress I designed for Britt Maren in one McQueen dress or collection.” And while the Winter Kate brand is steadily gaining traction (with Richie herself as a ubiquitous ambassador), tonight will mark the first time Richie attends the Vogue-hosted gala in an official designer capacity. Tell us: Are you excited to see Maren’s Winter Kate gown? And don’t forget to visit PEOPLE StyleWatch tonight for all the latest from the 2011 Met Ball! –Justine Harman

Textbook for Fashionista: Kate Middleton

5660970633 0cd5e91986 b 540x717 Textbook for Fashionista: Kate Middleton

Fans of the Tumblr blog Textbook, take note: Fashionista has teamed up with the blog’s mastermind, John Jannuzzi, to create storyboards for our industry’s style stars. (See an archive of his work for us here.)

Unless you’ve been living under an extremely heavy rock for the past few months (do you need help?), then you know that there’s a royal wedding tomorrow. Everybody and their mom (mum?) is buzzing about the nuptials of Prince William and Princess-in-waiting Kate Middleton, and we’re no exception. Of course, the fashion set is preoccupied with one thing: the dress. It’s been rumored to be made of unicorn feathers (they exist), down from golden geese and dragon silk–truly a fairytale princess gown. OK, maybe not, but with the recent denial by Sophie Cranston’s camp and Bruce Oldfield’s camp, it’s anybody’s guess as to the designer. Personally, I’m hoping for Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen but everybody from Alice Temperley to Daniella Helayel has been thrown in the mix. And so, I give you Kate Middleton. Ta-da.
