Fashion Inspiration: One Direction

Boy bands are back, and this time around, they hail from across the pond. Formed by Simon Cowell for the 2010 season of the UK X Element, One Direction consists of 5 guys: Niall, Louis, Zayn, Liam, and Harry. The guys entered the competition as solo acts and left as a group, coming in third on the show.
The British and Irish boys are making girls all more than the globe swoon, and they’ve got talent to back it up! You may well have heard their catchy single “What Tends to make You Beautiful” on the radio, or possibly even seen the song’s music video, which is at the moment number a single in the U.S. iTunes shop. Their initial album Up All Night debuted at number one particular on the U.S. Billboard chart, setting a new record for any British band. Following a brief tour co-headlining with Big Time Rush, the boys are scheduled to execute this summer in a full tour across America.

VH1’s Stevie Ryan on How to Be a Kardashian

For almost six years, Stevie Ryan, 25, has been uploading hilariously wonky pop culture impressions to YouTube, amassing a cult following that can now tune into her new show, Stevie Tv, premiering on VH1 this Sunday at 11 pm. Ryan brings all her go-to, lampoon-prepared characters to table, such as Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, and even a Actual Housewife or two. Beneath, she breaks down their pop culture essence.
ELLE: What does it take to turn into Kim Kardashian?
Stevie Ryan: White, bedazzled dresses, sculpting powder, contouring makeup, highlighter, and bronzer. But I do not actually really feel the character until I place on my 3 butts. I’m not lying—it’s literally 3 butts stuffed with padding. And when I put on those on and put on my long 22-inch dark wig, I genuinely really feel like a Kardashian.
ELLE: Break down the Biebs for us.
SR: We in fact bind down my boobs with ACE bandage, and it gets so tight and hurts so a lot that I get actually poor heartburn from it. Then we put a sock in my underwear—you know, to get the true effect. It’s…awkward. Then of course I often have to have a hoodie, a baseball cap, and some thing purple. For Justin, I constantly need some thing purple.

Forget the muscly gold statue you take home from the Oscars and check out the accolade at the Bambi Awards! No sillies, we don’t mean Lady Gaga dressed as a Ferrero Rocher — we’re talking about the gold award in the shape of our favourite pointy-eared Disney character. How cute! They were dished out at the annual ceremony in Germany last night with the likes of Gaga, Gwyneth Paltrow and Justin Bieber cracking out their glad rags. And what glad rags they were!
No prizes for guessing it was Lady Gaga who made the biggest impact, gliding onto the red carpet in a fantastical concoction from Alexander McQueen’s mesmerising Spring / Summer 2012 collection. Her head was covered in an intricate gold cap leading to a matching bodice and cascading into a frothy cream skirt of swan-like feathers. She looks set for an almighty battle, dontcha think?

It was all going down in Belfast last night when the MTV EMAs rolled into town, bringing with it a gaggle of our favourite style stuntwomen. We’re talking Katy Perry, Jessie J and Lady Gaga who thrashed it out with a parade of suitably bonkers outfits created by the equally bonkers Jeremy Scott and Paco Rabanne. Oh, and Bar Refaeli and Hayden Panettiere were there too, but whatevs. So the question is: WHO was the Best Dressed?
She wore a Jeremy Scott mini-frock to the MTV EMAs last year so it was no surprise to see Katy Perry cracking out another kooky Jezza number – and this time, she accessorised with the designer himself! We’re loving KP’s Spring / Summer 2012 rockabilly look consisting of a one-shouldered dress under a studded leather jacket avec white ankle socks and platform ankle boots. Her pin-up pink curls and colour-popping lip are perfect for polishing off that retro vibe.

Japanese Justin Bieber Fan in G2? Dress & Tokyo Bopper Platforms
Here’s Mayu, a 17-year-old Japanese student who we ran into on the street in Harajuku. Her unique black-and-white outfit matched with her bob hairstyle made us want to snap some pictures.
Mayu’s look features a white decorated dress from the well-known Harajuku vintage/resale shop G2? (pronounced “Gee Two Question”), white stockings with a black zipper print, and cool black and white multi-buckle platform shoes from Tokyo Bopper. Her accessories include a vintage leather backpack, a question mark ring from Nadia Harajuku, and a cat ring from the Japanese brand Ne-net.
Mayu told us that her favorite musicians include the Japanese rock band Sotaisei Riron and Canadian singer Justin Bieber (possibly his first mention on this site). Her favorite fashion brands include I am I and Ne-net.

MTV VMAs: Fashion, boys rule
It was a gender-bending fashion story at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night, beginning with Lady Gaga’s male alter-ego Jo Calderone.
Calderone, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Ralph Macchio in “The Outsiders,” wasn’t so straightforward on the eyes, even in the Dior Homme jacket and Brooks Brothers pants, cigarette in hand. I located myself missing the meat dress.
