Hermès and the secret of luxe appeal (GQ)
“Hermès is a phenomenon: probably the most successful, perhaps the most creative, certainly the most respected and one of the most profitable luxury-goods companies of all time. After a brief blip from 2009-10, the turbulent economic times seem to have, if anything, accelerated its success.

Colette & Aston Martin

Written by Allan Barger

In the coming months we’ll be seeing Missoni team up with Target and Versace with H&ampM. However, designer diffusions do not often go in a less costly direction. The 1st time we truly took note of this was when we stumbled across the ridiculously quick Bugatti Veyron which had been re-styled by Hermes. In the same year, Hermes worked alongside Citroen to make a 1-of-a kind ’89 2CV. Both of these by their nature had been out of reach for most everyone. An individual appears to have been taking notes on their advertising achievement.

In May possibly, we told you about Fiat and Gucci. Today, landing on our desk is the news that the masters of the fashion-cross-brand, colette, have teamed up with Aston Martin to bring fourteen bespoke built Cygnets to the market place. The Cygnet is Aston Martin’s new microcar providing, with only a 1.3L engine it is far removed from the company’s typically sporty offerings. You can see a list of features included in the bespoke colette version soon after the jump.

The Comeback of Inès de la Fressange: The Icon on the Fate of Luxury Brands, Working With Roger Vivier, and Galliano’s Downfall

00770m 260x390 The Comeback of Inès de la Fressange: The Icon on the Fate of Luxury Brands, Working With Roger Vivier, and Galliano’s DownfallIn the ’80s Inès de la Fressange reigned as the most super of the supermodels. Muse to Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel throughout the decade (until the two had a falling out in 1989) she was, according to the WSJ, the first model to sign an exclusive modeling contract with the house, and later went on to serve as the model for Marianne, the symbol of France.

Today, at 52, de la Fressange is back. She signed on as the brand ambassador for Roger Vivier when the label was revived eight years ago after being acquired by Diego Della Valle and Tod’s group, marked the end of her feud with Lagerfeld by walking at the Chanel spring 2011 show, and just yesterday it was announced that she is the new face of L’Oreal Paris. “I believe in the slogan ‘Because we’re worth it!’” she said in a statement for L’Oreal, “I love those words, which are still perfectly relevant today.”

We got the chance to talk with the legendary model over Paris Fashion Week at Roger Vivier’s presentation about her work for Vivier, her thoughts on the state of fashion and luxury today, her reaction to Galliano’s ousting from Dior, and why she doesn’t like to go to runway shows.
