Movies starring Theda Bara and her “vamp’s lips”, the sexy bee-stung kisser of Mae Murray (above) and iconic “cupid’s bow” associated with Clara Bow showcased a matte, heart-shaped mouth – feminine, yes, but daring. It is Pamela Love’s style, as effectively as her jewelry, that’s produced her such a force to be reckoned with in the planet of fashion, so we often wondered when she’d use her sharp eye for one thing other than bracelets and rings.  Her initial such effort comes courtesy of J.Crew, in a pair of slouchy boyfriend jeans with expertly placed rips and patches.  There’s a jacket, as well, each of which go on sale April 23rd.  Amongst Altuzarra’s ripped sweaters and Love’s scrappy jeans, J.Crew’s totally embraced fashion’s love of 90s grunge.

Ladyhawke On Her Sophomore Album, Style & Stage Fright

ladyhawke Ladyhawke On Her Sophomore Album, Style & Stage Fright

Photo: Ladyhawke

At last, Ladyhawke has returned. It is been more than two years considering that we’ve heard new music from the “My Delirium” singer, but she’s just released the first single, “Black, White &amp Blue,” off her sophomore album and we’re currently giddy with anticipation more than its Could release.  The New Zealand rocker’s named the album Anxiousness, a fitting title offered the ongoing stage fright you’d never suspect offered the endless glossy magazine pages showcasing her seemingly confident rock star style: shaggy blonde bangs, smeared raccoon eyes and an affinity for over-sized flannels, concert t-shirts and jeans.  Then there’s the in-your-face, dance-floor-ready tunes on which she built her reputation. This time about, she’s opted for “lo-fi drums” and “big, grunge-y guitar”-driven songs heavily influenced by revisiting the tunes of her childhood rock idols like The Smashing Pumpkins and David Bowie.  It’s her “anxiety”—and adorably awkward charm—that brings out the musical magic on these new songs.  Her hypnotic alto pipes soar with truthful fragility juxtaposed with frenetic, insanely catchy indie rock bangers that will have Ladyhawke fans in a tizzy. We hopped on the telephone with the singer, while she’s operating in London, to chat about her killer anti-stylist style, why she reckons New Zealand genuinely rocks, and how she’s coping with the anxiousness of releasing her album of the identical name.

ELLE: You’re from a little town in New Zealand, has that influenced your style?
Ladyhawke: I’m a quite, really proud Kiwi. I adore New Zealand I think it is the coolest nation. I believe coming from New Zealand helped me in a sense that getting in the bottom of the planet, fundamentally, it made me want to see the planet more. I had a drive in me to go out and discover. I would say that the way I dress can be rather androgynous and the style and fashion in New Zealand is really dark—quite difficult almost. Girls and guys dress extremely similarly. Zambesi and Nom*D, those style labels and that whole look is extremely certain to New Zealand…[but] I basically live in jeans and boots.

ELLE: Do you operate with a stylist or do you do your own issue?
LH: I just do my own factor. I don’t seem to really get on with stylists. They do not typically get me. Honestly, my style is actually simple and rather androgynous. I’m rather tall so I often finish up wearing guy stuff because it fits me better. And occasionally girl’s jeans, since often guy’s jeans have a really lengthy crotch, which looks weird on me.

Bebe Buell Talks Boyfriends, Music & That Dirty Word

BEBE 1 Bebe Buell Talks Boyfriends, Music & That Dirty Word

Photo: Alan Mercer

Bebe Buell’s life is what blockbuster movies are made of. In the seventies, she was a successful fashion model—not to mention 1974′s November Playmate of the Month—and Max’s Kansas City standard, exactly where she sang into hairbrushes with Patti Smith and befriended (then dated) a lot of a legendary rock musician such as Elvis Costello, Todd Rundgren, and Steven Tyler. Nowadays, she’s most likely much better identified as Liv Tyler’s mother, but the 58-year-old’s about to adjust that with her first significant album, Difficult Adore, a set of grunge-meets-glam-rock tracks in which Buell’s raspy wail demands listeners spend attention.

As of late, Buell’s dreams of getting on stage instead of backstage are operating out pretty nicely. Last week, she played a packed New York Fashion Week bash to a sea of bouncing hipsters and the first few days of March will discover her rocking out at the Tough Rock Cafe in Hollywood, Florida.  She’s most excited, even so, to play Hiro Ballroom’s final blowout at the end of the month.  We had a opportunity to meet the kick-ass Buell in between rehearsals of her upcoming a single woman show and chatted for practically two hours about everything from those renowned boyfriends to posing nude to effectively raising Liv.  If we learned a single thing, it is why you ought to never, ever call Bebe a groupie, but you possibly want to read the rest.

ELLE: You are suddenly carrying out a million different issues, why now?
BB: I listen to the fans. I’m not a corporate machine. I’m not Lady Gaga, I’m not Madonna, I don’t have a million dollars behind me and large giant record businesses. I am an organic artist. I really do what I do because of a really rabid fan base, but of course, an artist like me also fights demographics simply because, if you attempt to say to someone who’s never ever seen me, “Oh, you’ve gotta see this, it’s outstanding,” they cannot wrap their head about it.  I’m not 15 and I’m not somebody who has a thousand hit records under my belt. The musicians that play with me are all world class. Small by little, I just maintain producing a lot more strides. I’m not gonna call myself the small engine that could simply because I’m 5’10 and I’m far from little—I’m the small engine that roared. Now I’ve got a fever about what I’m undertaking, because I think it’s crucial for girls to make this kind of statement, not to have an expiration date.

Marchesa Fall 2012: Coming to a Red Carpet (and Taylor Momsen Video) Near You

Marchesa Fall 2012: Coming to a Red Carpet (and Taylor Momsen Video) Near YouIt does not get much more glamorous than Marchesa‘s Fall 2012 show.

Set at the Plaza Hotel, guests initial had to make their way by means of the clump of paparazzi waiting on the red carpet for a peek at Taylor Momsen, Stacy Keibler and Olivia Palermo. It felt a lot more like an A-list awards show than a fashion show–which makes sense considering that we’re betting a lot more than a handful of of Marchesa’s gorgeous and dramatic gowns will make their way onto the red carpet soon–like Oscar’s soon.

When every person was seated in the gold dinner chairs in one of the Plaza’s most luxurious event spaces, the show began. Models entered through a gold-and-mirrored doorway, helped down the tiny set of steps by a pair of dapper gentlemen, like debutantes from a bygone era.

The line sheet mentioned the designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig were inspired by William-Adolphe Bouguereau’s famed 1878 portrait, “A Soul Brought to Heaven.” And as the New York Instances‘ Eric Wilson pointed out, there was some Alexander McQueen in there, too. In any case, there were numerous Baroque elements in the collection, and although the hand embroidered lace bodices, as nicely as the gold brocade sculptural frocks did remind us of McQueen’s Fall 2010 collection, they also seemed like a natural development for the brand’s aesthetic.

Four Reasons Why We Love Raoul

Elle Macpherson with RAOUL Bag Four Reasons Why We Love Raoul

Raoul is a label for the classicist. It’s luxe, timeless, elegant and pretty damn fabulous. It’s the thinking woman’s brand and focuses on the basics of tailoring and the refinement of aesthetics… all lovely but I’m not very refined! I love Ashish and anything that sparkles. Yes I appreciate classics but I’m a grungey girl at heart so I wondered if I could transform my faraway appreciation of the brand into cold hard wardrobe space. I did!

There’s something innately stylish and sophisticated about Raoul pieces that makes you feel like a grown up as soon as you slip into their silks or shroud yourself in one of their leather trimmed capes. There are references to the clean lines and spare tailoring of the late 60’s and early 70’s, a nod to the reinterpreted minimalism of the 90’s that’s so perfect for right now. And for always really!

And it’s not just me and the rest of Grazia girls that are into it; Blake Lively, Elle McPherson and Glee’s Lea Michele are also fans. And hey, if it’s good enough for The Body who are we to argue?!
