The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Chinese Exchange Program Welcomes Uma Wang to New York

Final night the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund welcomed Chinese designer Uma Wang to New York with a fancy cocktail party at the W New York Downtown–which will be Wang’s property for the duration of her six week keep. She is in town as a guest of the CFDA/Vogue Style Fund’s Chinese Exchange System, which aims to engage important designers in a cultural exchange like business events and introductions to essential individuals within the U.S. marketplace.
The event was hosted by Vogue’s Meredith Melling Burke along with CFDA’s Steven Kolb and W Hotels International Fashion Director Jenné Lombardo. We also spotted Peter Som, Jenna Lyons and Opening Ceremony’s Kate Foley (who showed us some of her super cool tattoos).
Geek Chic: Fashion Inspired by The Hunger Games

By now, you’ve probably heard the buzz surrounding Suzanne Collins’s popular young adult trilogy The Hunger Games. With the first movie adaptation coming out in a little over two weeks (March 23rd!), it’s prime time for a Geek Chic post about fashion inspired by Panem!
The Hunger Games is an addictive blend of dystopian horror novel, action thriller, makeover show, star-crossed romance, and Project Runway. For a YA book, it’s surprisingly heavy stuff, with a ton of graphic violence and implied social commentary. The movie adaptation stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth as romantic triangle members Katniss, Peeta, and Gale.

Go All Out San Francisco Cool This Spring!

San Francisco is the world capital of cultural and lifestyle diversity. Nestled in a wonderful bay area by the ocean, it is California and even West Coast at its best, with wonderfully bohemian cafés and restaurants, lots of theaters, bars, pubs and a vibrant arts scene. All these features are also distinctively reflected in the city’s typical fashion. If you check out any San Francisco street style blog you will come to the conclusion that everyone there must be totally trendy at all time, not to mention filthy rich. This is clearly not the case. The eclectic style philosophy which animates San Francisco is firmly rooted in a culture of uniqueness and casually accepting everyone for what they are. Great street style brands such as HUF clothing are based there, and the city also features a wide range of thrift and second hand clothing stores from which you can often be lucky enough to purchase stand-out vintage pieces. All these elements, factors and influences coherently merge into a unique style, whose elements we will be briefly explore below.
Don’t Sweat It!
One essential style item this warm season is the hoodie, which one can cover with (or even replace with) a light outdoor jacket, ideal for those spring days when you don’t know whether you’ll need to take along your umbrella before you set out into the city. Hoodies are a must, while sweaters, while aesthetically pleasing, are considered much too fancy and hipster-ish for a genuine, true-blue San Francisco-inspired outfit.
Kate Moss Models For Her Fred Jewelry Collection
Remember we talked about Kate Moss taking on a job (well, kind of) as a jewelry designer chez Fred? A little detail about her collection might trigger that memory â Kateâs Fred Jewelry Collection is inspired by her very own tattoos! (anything?)
Anyway, hereâs a fist look at the ad campaign for the above mentioned collection. More pictorials I see, more I understand why Kate Moss is such a highly esteemed model. Even this Fred campaign is a good example to illustrate how Kate Moss is wearing the clothes / jewelry and not the other way around. She has a status of her own, something weâll only see happening with one of the Supers and less with todayâs models. Why is that, anyway? Why do they have to go over the top with the styling and everything when really, less is more? (oh, and just one word about Kateâs Fred collection â I love it!)

British Fashion Awards: Beauty Tricks
Written by Adele Booth
We’re still mining the images from this week’s British Fashion Awards, and noticed a few beauty tricks which stood out on the night. Louise Gray‘s eclectic eyeshadow- showing up inked on neons lined up on top of each other- provided the perfect compliment to her zany whistle earrings. And not just that, the designer modelled a make up trend used on her last catwalk- talk about a one woman advertisement!

Alexa Chung rolls on with her ‘if it ain’t broke’ mentality by pairing her diamond-inspired winter dress with fluffed up bed hair. No wonder the experts think she represents London style best- gorgeous jewelled dress offset with a shaggy do. Very patriotic Alexa!
Barbie gets a punky new look

It may not be how we usually see Barbie – all long legs and swishy blonde hair, but believe it or not this is still Barbie. Just Barbie with attitude. The iconic doll has been given a serious fashion makeover courtesy of the Italian-based, Japanese-inspired brand Tokidoki. Mixing a variety of current trends, the $ 50 limited edition Barbie features a pink bob and floral Manga-style tattoos.
Finishing off her look, Barbie wears a pair of leopard print leggings, oversized T-shirt, mini skirt, carries a cartoon tote and has a pair of sunnies on her head. With the tattoos, she is already causing a stir amongst parents, not to mention her cactus-covered little friend whose name is ‘Bastardino.’ Personally I am loving this change on Babs, how about you?

It’s no secret that New Yorkers (especially those in fashion) are obsessed with all things French. The Parisian fashion elite invade New York every season, but this time around there was one international tastemaker, Gildas Loaëc, the co-founder of Kitsuné, who was determined to make his mark. Google Loaëc and the likes of Olivier Zahm, André Saraiva, and Daft Punk pop up on his professional pedigree. With a new album, new string of artists, and new American collaboration, the former Daft Punk manager is putting indie music on the American agenda.
ELLE: In addition to a fashion collection every season, Kitsuné releases an album of some of the hottest and newest artists—what inspired your upcoming compilation Kitsuné Parisien?
GL : Kitsuné music label is based in Paris; we work in Paris, we live in Paris and we collaborate with artists from the US, Canada, and the UK. This time we wanted to make a compilation that is 100% French—a sampling of what French music sounds like, what the kids are listening to in Paris.
