10 Questions: Julia Restoin-Roitfeld

113 10 Questions: Julia Restoin Roitfeld

Photo: through Crystal Anderson at IMG

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld just gave birth to the positive-to-be stylish baby of extended-term boyfriend Robert Konjic—a infant girl named Romy Nicole Konjic. As the world awaits for JRR’s offspring to make her initial public (or maybe editorial) look, we’re equally as anxious to find out what Carine Roitfeld, Julia’s mother, will go by—Granny? Nana? Grams? She’s recommended “Madame” in the past. We caught up with the new mom recently and identified out about her worst nightmare, her memories of Disneyland, and why she’s been wearing the very same fragrance for the past 15 years.

ELLE: What is your preferred smell?
Julia Restoin-Roitfeld: The smell of hot sand, the ocean, and sunscreen. I have been wearing Aqua Motu from Comptoir Sud Pacifique for practically 15 years—and that’s what it reminds me of.

ELLE: What do you take into account the epitome of happiness?
JRR: Right now, being an expecting mother with the man I enjoy. I couldn’t think of anything that tends to make me happier.

Style has been mining Blade Runner‘s dystopian-punk style for years—as noticed in Alexander Wang’s staple leather and studs, Balenciaga‘s Fall 2012 neon-splashed sci-fi-print jackets, Gucci‘s Spring 2012 raccoon-mask eyeshadow runway appear. The cult classic has even gone mainstream, inspiring a will.i.am-accompanied Victoria’s Secret style show segment in 2007, complete with noir-neon cityscape set style.

Chanel’s Resident Surfer

112 Chanel’s Resident Surfer

Photo: Chanel

When pro surfer Danny Fuller 1st learned he was the star of Chanel’s new Allure Homme Sport campaign, he was “blown away.” But such a high-profile gig is not all that surprising for the 30-year-old athlete, model, and photographer who’s already been featured in the pages of GQ and ELLE.

Fuller 1st came onto the scene on The WB’s The Boarding Residence, a pre-Jersey Shore reality Tv show exactly where seven pro surfers had been shacked up together for six weeks. Immediately after that, when his blond hair and hazel eyed mug catapulted far beyond the surfing realm, he initially struggled to locate a balance in between surfing and style. “There was a time when I put all fashion opportunities aside and just focused on my surfing career,” he told ELLE.

But the surfer never ever gave up on the camera completely. He started taking pictures to document his travels, and now, he’s been featured in photography exhibitions all more than the globe, most recently at the Brucennial in New York’s Greenwich Village. Intriguingly, Fuller actively tries to separate his surfing life from his art, even going so far as to adopt diverse names for each profession: “Danny Fuller” for surfing and “Daniel Fuller” for photography. “I do not want to be riding the coattail of, ‘Oh, the pro surfer that does art,’” Fuller mentioned. “That’s just lame.”

Mark Revamps Its Hair Line—and Introduces a Styling Compact

Sized Mark Collection Mark Revamps Its Hair Line—and Introduces a Styling Compact

Avon has a fairly impressive hair care line, Advanced Techniques—and now its infant sister, mark, is stepping up to the plate. Next month, the brand will launch a 5-piece hair care collection composed of styling products for straight and curly textures. They will replace the company’s existing hair care items, says Gail Boye, VP of mark item development: “We upgraded the packaging and formulas, infusing them with exotic oils and super nutrients.”

Each and every of the hairsprays, gels, creams, and salves contain distinct oil and nutrient pairings—think jojoba oil and goji berry, baobab oil and sea buckthorn, and so forth.—and Boye is proud of this element. “I wanted to have ingredients that are recognizable, readable, and pronounceable,” she says. “There’s a massive slug of all-natural, helpful ingredients.”

The hero item is the Double Do Shape and Gloss Kit, a compact that contains each a smoothing butter and texturizing wax. And, if the packaging looks familiar, there’s a purpose: it is mark’s Flip For It makeup compact, only with hair-centric contents. “It produced far more sense to put the butter and wax in a compact instead of two separate jars,” says Boye, who got the thought for the flip-square after catching an episode of Sesame Street. “It was the day of the square and, immediately after seeing this square moving across the Television screen, I believed it would be cool to incorporate the shape in a compact,” she recalls.
