The Academy Awards 2012 – We make our Oscars fashion predictions
Gemma Cartwright writes…
Sunday night is the 84th Academy Awards, and stars will be pulling out all the stops for their Oscars red carpet moment. The night never ever fails to bring us a handful of fashion surprises, but a single thing we can guarantee is that you will have an amazing night if you enjoy glamorous gowns!
On Sunday, team Catwalk Queen will be having a tiny Oscars party of our own, livetweeting the red carpet and updating the internet site as soon as the photos come in so you can see the gowns for oneself.
In my function as resident Oscars specialist, I usually predict what I believe folks will wear, and while they usually pull a thing new and thrilling out of the bag to prove me incorrect, it really is still fun to guess.

The A – Z of Award Show Fashion – red carpet style rundown
As we approach the middle of the madness that is awards season, we take a look at what we think makes up the A – Z of red carpet style at these big star-studded events (yes, we even found a Q and an X)…
A is for Academy Awards

The Academy Awards is undoubtedtly the biggest awards show on the red carpet calendar and thus the most glamorous. Film stars from across the globe flock to Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre to celebrate the year’s best performances, dressed in their very best couture. Designers clamour to dress nominees and presenters, as the publicity is worth millions.
Elie Saab Couture S/S 2012 – Oscar dresses get minted

If Elie Saab‘s latest couture collection is something to go by, we can expect to see a thing other than the predictable black and nude on the red carpet at the Oscars. The Lebanese designer – who’s dressed dozens of winners, nominees and presenters in the last couple of years – showed a dreamy couture collection bursting with attainable Oscar frocks. Our money’s on one particular of the amazing mint green numbers, snapped backstage during the show, possibly worn by ‘The Artist’ star Berenice Bejo, who sat in the front row for the show.

There were also peach, cream and a profusion of pale pink gowns, producing up an ice-cream hued collection of heavily embellished and textured dresses and gowns. Though there were some structured suits and shorter dresses, Saab is not a designer you look to for daywear. He’s all about romantic glamour and severe attention to detail, this season through a generous use of tiny crystals on soft, fairytale fabrics fit for a princess.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Blake Lively, Kristen Stewart – Stars & Their Signature Style
You know what they say, if it ain’t broke, why fix it? That’s the mantra a lot of stars dress by soon after discovering a signature style and darn properly sticking to it. Jessie J is a junkie for a jumpsuit, Victoria Beckham loves her own curve-kissing creations, and Kate Moss is hooked on skinny jeans…you get the jist. So as our thoughts turn to updating our wardrobe in 2012, let’s take a appear at the ladies who enjoy recreating the very same red carpet appear – over and over again…

Paris Fashion Week Spring 2012: Elie Saab

It was a rainbow of colours at the Elie Saab Spring/Summer 2012 show yesterday. It was easy to see why Saab has become a favourite amongst the red carpet crowd with several knock-out gowns ranging from creamy ivory to mustard yellow to dusty orange, grass green and electric blue.
Fitted in the bodice and flaring out at the waist, these dresses were not meant for the faint-hearted. Think deep-V necklines, sexy thigh-high splits and cinched in at the waist. Saab’s gowns were given a bit of extra detail with thin belts, sparkly embellishments, and delicate layers of chiffon in the skirt. We are bound to see more of this collection come award season time.
Elie Saab Spring 2012
The celebrity-favorite designer turned out a rainbow-coded color fest for Spring ’12. It’s as if he took each primary hue from a box of crayons, then offered an iteration of evening wear, cocktail sheaths, and suiting — one in every color. The primary references have only to do with color scheming; there’s nothing elementary about the red-carpet-worthy gowns, made brighter and more statement-worthy in sequins, dreamy sheer layers, and lace. You see the craftsmanship in every piece — a subtle, smart lace inset on a cobalt blue suit, a just-sexy-enough neckline on a fitted sheath. It’s a collection that carries its sex appeal with total confidence — just like that woman who will wear it.
- Trends: Brights, lace, sheer, slits.
- Colors: Bold blue, green, orange, and yellow; creamy white.
- Key Look: The green sequined gown with a cinched waist and a plunging neckline.
- Accessories: Box clutches and strappy pumps to match every colorful look.
- Who Would Wear It: Look for it all over the red carpet.
