Would You Wear… a Drop-Waist Dress?

Drop Waist Dresses: 1. Marc Jacobs, two. On Clemence Poesy through ELLE, three. DVF
I have an innate fear of style types linked with the term “low”: Low-rise jeans, drop-crotch harem pants, and mullet hemlines, to name a couple of, all make me a tiny nervous. Which is precisely why the sudden popularity of drop-waist dresses caught me by surprise. Not only do I adore this look I have a couple of dresses in this style!
This 1920s throwback silhouette has a longer bodice section with a shorter skirt, which could range from a-line to pleated. By nature, the drop-waist dress is versatile. Paired with a blazer and heels, it tends to make a perfect job interview look, while adding a pair of casual booties and a low-slung bag makes it important for an afternoon of buying.

Levi’s Fall/Winter 2012 Fashion Show # NYFW
![]()
Levi’s goes fashion and I mean big time! The program was based around our daily ritual of getting dressed. Simple, right?
Here’s what the brand says,
“Steeped in the authenticity and craftsmanship that the brand is known for, the collection is built around classic and refined styles with sharp clean aesthetics, which have been tailored to perfection.
The key trend for men this season is the tapered look, for a great flattering fit that sits just below the waist, is slouchy on the top and has a slim tailored leg.
JFour Spring/Summer 2012 Men’s Lookbook
Following on from the Fall/Winter 2011 lookbook I posted earlier, here is the Spring/Summer 2012 season from JFour which is showing lots of tattooed sixpacks. Ooops, got a little distracted there for a second. What I mean to say is lots of bleached out blue jeans and whites, all with a slimmer line and a more body conscious, very Italian style. None of those overly baggy or drop crotch jeans here. Even their cut-offs are on the slimmer side which makes you guys look so much more attractive than those baggy and slouchy ones I usually see you wearing. So, come on guys, we girls deserve some eye candy too. Try one of these sexier styles. And you really don’t need the ink to make them look good.

Elisabetta Canalis In DSquared Jeans
When I originally came across drop-crotch jeans last year I hated them and thought they looked like such ugly, bad fitting things. However gradually over the course of 2011 as they have become more popular I have had my opinion changed and these days I actually find them to be one of the most interesting denim styles on the market, as clearly demonstrated by Elisabetta Canalis who caused quite a fuss among the paparazzi when she wore a pair of drop-crotch jeans by DSquared at a PETA presentation in Milan this week.

Barbour Jackets & Clothing: Behind The Brand
Introduction
Given the amount of time we here at FashionBeans spend banging on about heritage, I thought it was high time (and very appropriate with the changing of the seasons) to cover another of our great British brands.
Barbour is one of those brands that everybody seems to know – or has at least heard of – regardless of whether they have actually owned an item of clothing or just caught the name in passing. This is mainly due to the huge popularity of the heritage trend and the celebration of all things Great and British; forcing (in quite a beneficially way) many of our traditional brands back onto the mainstream fashion stage and into the modern fashionable males’ consciousness. The fact that their jackets are both hugely practical and useful (the reason for their existence) could also be considered to be quite and important factor as well.
However, I would like to highlight the fact that this will not be just a history of a great brand but also perhaps a bit of an eye opener, revealing to those who may not have quite realised how far the Barbour brand has come in terms of its product range and its fashion relevance. Not only are its staple jackets hugely covetable, their adventures into other areas of clothing has created a wide selection of style relevant and timeless pieces worthy of our notice.
As this is a major breakdown into all things Barbour, we have index links here so you can skip to sections you would like to:

Editor Introduction
Warren has joined the FashionBeans contributing team with a specific quest in mind – to rid the world of common fashion mistakes (or faux pas) men make on a daily basis. We are not going to insult your intelligence by breaking down why you should not be wearing socks with your sandals; anyone with an ounce of style will already know this. However, we are going to be tackling some key topics that will hopefully take your outfits to the next level.
Whether you consider yourself a style icon or a fashion newbie, hopefully this series will prove to be a valuable insight into oft overlooked areas, whilst also making you fully consider your purchases and outfit choices in the future.

Autumn/Winter Trend – The Development Of Shearling
Introduction
I would like to first apologise for the seemingly persistent winter theme running throughout my recent articles, we are technically still experiencing our ever dependable British summer, although you would be forgiven for thinking that summer had actually ended many weeks ago. It is actually the 23rd September – to be exact – until Autumn does officially arrive and we really can give up any tiny morsel of hope we had left for a dribbling of sun.
Following on from our recent round up of 5 things you really should own for the coming season, I thought that I would expand a little further on one particular item – the shearling jacket. Without wishing to appear overbearing or forcing the issue, a coat is in all seriousness, an investment piece. It requires an awful lot of thought and consideration as it will arguably be THE defining feature of your entire winter look; it covers over half of the rest of your clothes and will get a great deal of use – whether you want to wear it or not.
This means that, in a similar way to shoes (in my opinion anyway), it has to be exactly the right one for you. A coat says quite a lot about the man wearing it and with the current trends in men’s fashion there really isn’t any room for us to be . . . . . sheepish (really sorry).
Men’s Corduroy Clothing: Autumn/Winter 2011 Trend
Introduction
Let me tell you a little story. When I was at college, many moons ago, I had a pair of Topman corduroy flares that were a light rust colour, and they were awesome. I kept them with me from college to my work life until they literally fell apart around me – which was an embarrassing visit to ASDA, let me tell you. At the time they were fantastic because they were right on the super-flare trend, suitable for my Shetland Pony-ish legs and they also incorporated a twist to make them look slightly different from the run of the mill garments available on the high street.
Lucky for me – and my Shetland Pony legs – corduroy is coming back this year with a bang. Taking inspiration from the very popular Heritage trend we are seeing this season, the premium fashion houses and the high street are pushing traditional British countryside styling and fabrics, with emphasis on items such as tweed, quilting, gilets, brogue boots… and now corduroy.
