Double Velvet: A Lady Like Triumph

One lot of velvet does not seem to be enough. Not this week anyway. By my reckoning (which is always so rational and proved correct after the fact…), as long as the trousers are skinny- Topshop leggings in this instance- it’s not that much Austin Powers really. See, not a frill in sight! There’s something lady like about velvets and florals this season, so naturally this must be countered ever so slightly with a pair of Doc Martens. Botanical style.

Dr Martens Snaps Up Agyness Deyn

Can you think of anyone to better front a feisty Dr Martens ad campaign than our own eccentric Agyness Deyn? It’s a no-brainer, a match made in sartorial heaven and it helps that her co-star is Ash Stymest – fashion model and certified hottie. Agyness’s pairing with Doc Martens highlights the model’s return to her first agency Select Model Management, having defected to Models 1 for a spell and then back again two months ago according to StyleClone.
The campaign, given the name First and Forever, pertains to the act of experiencing something for the first time and the emotion that comes with with it. Through the joys of social media and on their site, DM invites you to share your firsts and forevers. According to Fashionista, there have been some rather crude ones to get the ball rolling (urine and menstruation dominates!) But there you have it, they’re here if you’re so brave to indulge.

This morning Dr. Martens previewed their fall collection and new campaign, ‘First and Forever’. The brand’s CEO, David Suddens told us, “the notion for the campaign developed when we realized that everyone remembers their initial pair of Dr. Martens.” Expanding on the concept of firsts, the organization is encouraging everybody to share their individual ‘first’ experiences on their web site. Agyness Dean makes a modeling comeback in the ad’s film version, speaking about the expertise of a first heartbreak.
At this morning’s event, photo blogging hosts Scott Schuman and Garance Doré, shared stories about starting their respective internet sites. Doré even spoke about her very first large photo shoot! Guests proceeded to get individual with stories about love, youngsters, and oddly enough—bodily fluid. Amidst all the sharing, we got a sneak peek at the brand’s new fall styles which run the gamut from cozy seeking fur-lined boots to stiletto lace-ups. It all has us waxing nostalgic about our very first pair of Docs!

Model Cailin Hill Discusses the Return of Her Blog, Canadian Tuxedos, and Why She’s Obsessed With Fage Greek Yogurt
Cailin Hill is a 23-year old Ford model and Ontario native who won us over with her witty, fun, and oh-so-snarky tumblr blog, Model Burnbook.
We declared our love of Cailin’s clever musings last year…but in March POOF! The blog vanished and we were left wondering why. Fast forward two months and we’re serendipitously standing on a SoHo street corner with Miss Hill herself. And she is every bit the cool and candid model that her blog alluded to (not to mention stunning without a stitch of makeup). We just had to find out more….

The Coachella Music Festival kicked off yesterday in Indio, CA.
Stars enjoyed the sunshine, free-flowing beer and summertime jams whilst wearing chic festival garbs.
Some got it right, whilst others got it wrong.
Vanessa Hudgens: She got it so so right. I think she’s a hippie/boho chick at heart. She wore a Wkshp Sioux Falls tank with Novella Royale bell bottom pants. Accessories are key to festival dressing; they can really make a look. Vanessa added a floppy hat, Katie Costell Jensen necklace and Natalie B. Jewelry ring. She kept up her love for feather earrings.
