Cirque du Soleil, Desigual team make Magic
The floor of the Las Vegas Convention Center looked like a lot more of a circus than usual on Tuesday at the Magic apparel trade show. That was due in significant portion to the acrobatic shenanigans of Cirque du Soleil performers, who bounded down the catwalk to highlight a new collaboration between the circus troupe and the Barcelona-based Spanish sportswear brand Desigual.
Referred to as “Desigual inspired by Cirque du Soleil,” the 60-piece debut collection for males, ladies and kids does not stray far from the distinctive eye-catching Desigual (pronounced “dezzy-GWAL”) aesthetic, which falls somewhere between a comic book confetti flurry and an explosion at a crayon factory. (Soon after all, the name translates to mean “unequal” as in “different” in English.)
The collection of clothing and accessories includes T-shirts, dresses, short dresses, handbags, totes and jackets. Costs will be mostly in the $ 59 to $ 98 range. A few statement pieces — like this season’s heavily embroidered jacket with gold foil detail at the shoulders, oversized enamel buttons and a cadre of clown-folk milling about the hem — are priced closer to $ 300.
Christian Lacroix For Desigual Collection
If Desigual doesn’t ring any familiar bells to you and you’re uncertain if you would like or dislike their creations put it this way: have you ever dreamed of wearing a patchwork quilt outside your house? If the answer is yes, then you will definitely love Desigual. If you’re answer is no, then, maybe, consider it for inside the house? Maybe?
Either way, Christian Lacroix collaborating with Desigual is great news and he absolutely is complimentary to the colorful Desigual style. This is the first collection, a second, larger one will follow in 2012. 30 pieces (jackets, skirts and lingerie) signed by Lacroix will be available this fall in the Desigual stores. Now if you don’t consider the patchwork dressing code normally, would a Lacroix patchwork change that for you? (Desigual via)

Rachel Bilson In AG Adriano Goldschmied Shorts
Rachel Bilson pops up for the second time this week, this time look rather leggy in a pair of AG Adriano Goldschmied denim shorts. Now I make no apologies for the soft spot I have for Rachel Bilson, however it has come to my attention that not everyone shares my opinions on how cool she is. I am interested to know what everyone else thinks of RB, so please scroll to the bottom of the post and let me know.

Desigual Denim LookBook Fall/Winter 2010
Desigual meaning Unequal is a brand out of Barcelona Spain. They are working on taking the U.S by storm most recently. Desigual is not your typical Spanish way of dress. Their founding philosophy: fresh quality clothes at happy-go-lucky prices. They say, Desigual dresses people, not bodies.

DVF and Ralph Lauren to Open in Soho — Are the Lower-End Stores on the Way Out?

After a bleak, recession-addled stretch for Soho, today WWD reports that two high-profile designers will open new stores in the neighborhood: Diane Von Furstenberg at 135 Wooster Street in July, and Ralph Lauren at 109 Prince Street later this fall. DVF’s Soho expansion was unplanned — the 2,000-square-foot space (which formerly housed kids’ clothier Agatha Ruiz de la Prada) was just “too good not to grab,” she says — and will likely stock iconic vintage items from the archive and contemporary best-sellers like handbags. Lauren hasn’t revealed a concept for his 8,000-square-foot addition yet, which will replace bedazzle-happy outfitter Replay.
With the launch of Isabel Marant’s first U.S. shop on Greene Street later this month, the Soho retail scene seems to be expanding beyond its recent fast-fashion fixation. Broadway alone is dotted with Topshop, Desigual, Mango, Uniqlo, Old Navy, and two H&Ms, but the fate of a slew of cheaper stores around Canal Street is uncertain. We love Topshop and H&M as much as the next budget-conscious shopper, but we’ll take the likes of DVF over Soho’s preponderance of spangles and spandex any day.
