Chloe Sevigny’s Catwalk Cameo for Kenzo!

Over in Paris earlier this week, FROWers were treated to quite the surprise. No, we’re not harping on about Kanye West’s collection (again) or even those broken benches at Balenciaga – we’re talking about one catwalk cameo at Kenzo which had editors clutching their Blackberries in amazement.

As a brunette catwalker in a cobalt blue jumpsuit closed the show, whispers circulated that she was an uncanny Chloe-Sevigny-a-like. BUT WAIT! That IS Chloe Sevigny! But where are her signature blonde locks? And what the blazes is she doing OFF of the front row and ON the catwalk?! Earlier this year, the frequent FROW claimed, ‘I hate going to fashion shows. I find them boring’, so is this her way of spicing things up?

Met Gala 2011 – Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty

2011 marks an anniversary I wish we would never had (at least not so early): 1 year has passed since Alexander McQueen’s death. Consequently, events have been rolled to commemorate the designer and his amazing sartorial work.

One of the most important celebrations is graced by the Metropolitan Museum of Art through the Costume Institute Exhibition: Alexander Mcqueen – Savage Beauty. Traditionally, every year, a Met Gala occurs, to mark the debut of the said exhibition. Every name and major personality in fashion is there on the big Met Ball night. And this is my view on the Met Gala 2011. (click through to discover the rest)

Fashion Makes Room for Footwear’s New Sensible Height

Shoes1 338x450 Fashion Makes Room for Footwear’s New Sensible Height Let’s be honest: We gravitate toward sky-high heels because they give us a sense of authority, make us feel more dressed up, and, of course, elongate our legs. Who doesn’t want all those things, right? But we all know that killer footwear comes with a price. On more than one occasion, I’ve caressed my poor, blistered feet after a day of parading around in stilettos, whispering false promises to them, like, “I swear, that was the last time I put you through this. Tomorrow I’m wearing flats.” A few months ago, that would have been a lie. But thanks to fashion’s recent focus on stylish flats and moderately-heeled footwear, honoring my beloved soles hasn’t been too difficult a challenge.

Only in the last two years has sensible footwear really been on the rise. According to a 2009 article in The Guardian, Linda Grant observed that women were suddenly opting for more comfortable shoes in London, going so far as to declare it an act of rebellion. “This act of collective fashion disobedience is pervasive. Friends tell me that they keep their heels in a drawer in the office, in case they have to look smart for a meeting or a lunch or are going out after work,” she says. “Women in the City have said that they need heels to look their male colleagues in the eye, but they are getting to work in flats. Few are able to negotiate public transport in the shoes that are being sold in the shops.”
