Why Is Pink Hair Still a Thing? We Investigate (Plus Tell You How To Get It, Keep It, and Lose It)
A bit of a mea culpa could be in order here. We reported (hoped?) that unnaturally-colored dip dye was a trend that was going to be left back in 2011. The spring 2012 runways (which we saw back in February of this year) proved that colored hair had moved, as these things often do, from the street to the runway. The outcome? The trend for neon and pastel hair, specifically pink, is hanging on and we’d even argue is gaining momentum.
The famously pink-haired model Charlotte Cost-free just landed a contract with Maybelline, which is a fairly mainstream gig for neon hair. Even Joan Rivers went pink for a bit (see above). And Lauren Conrad is a serial pink dyer–she can not lay off the neon. She dip-dyed her ponytail fuchsia a few weeks ago, and let’s not forget the net frenzy she caused when she did pink, blue and lavender streaks final year. Coco Rocha produced her waves Schiaparelli shocking pink for the Met Gala. So it’s a thing, and that’s ok.

Five things that London Fashion Week wouldn’t be the same without
Aside from the fabulous fashion moments taking place on the catwalk, there were a few little things that made LFW even more enjoyable for the Grazia team. Rising star Charlotte Totally free is known for her glorious Manic Panic hair. Found by a photographer at the local arcade last year, the Los Angeles native is currently signed with IMG Models. Even with the pink hair and being only five-foot-7, which is pretty short for a runway model, she debuted at Richard Chai’s fall 2011 display in New York, cast by the eagle-eyed Michelle Lee at KCD. Totally free was a normal fit on London’s a lot more eccentric runways, too, walking for Topshop Exclusive, Residence of Holland, and Vivenne Westwood. And she’s currently been shot by Craig McDean and styled by Marie Amélie Sauvé for Interview. We chatted with Totally free on the mobile phone about modeling, her hair, cats, and much more.
