Would You Rather? The Kate Moss as David Bowie on the Cover of Vogue Edition
The December/January edition of Vogue Paris has finally arrived, David Bowie-style. Editor Emmanuelle Alt has broken the mold of the typically guest-edited issue (remember the hubbub over Tom Ford’s last year? It was rumored to be one of the reasons for Carine Roitfeld’s exit from the magazine) but Alt has taken a different route, deeming it the Music issue instead. Not everything here is unfamiliar, though. Kate Moss covers the issue and has been a staple for the magazine for many years, and she is wearing Balmain, another Vogue Paris favorite. We love the drama of the cover, but then we realized why this looks so familiar. In May 2003, Kate Moss graced the cover of British Vogue’s own music issue as David Bowie. The styles of the covers may be different, but the theme is verbatim. Which one is your favorite?
Books for fashion lovers: 7 Christmas gift ideas
When it comes to choosing a Christmas gift, books have their obvious advantages. They’re neatly shaped and therefore not likely to turn into hulking monstrosities of wrapping paper and sticky tape. LONDON, United Kingdom — There are two ways in which a fashion magazine can be successful: either by featuring clothes with which the reader can identify or by stimulating the reader’s imagination. It is the old tussle between commerciality and creativity. Except, of course, it isn’t a tussle that existed before fashion magazines became mass market and needed to chase and keep readers who, for most of the twentieth century, never even opened a ‘glossy’ magazine, which until the fifties was still a very exclusive and small circulation type of publication.
Rosie Huntington Whiteley Takes Her Clothes Off For Vogue Germany November 2011
Talking about Carine Roitfeld the other day reminded me of her fashion ways. Which were pretty strange, I admit, but really haunting. Carine used the models bodies as her Vogue signature style. Spice that with some cigarettes and you have the complete picture of what Roitfeld did for Vogue.
Ever since she left VP, I keep seeing her stereotypes throughout various editions of Vogue (let’s keep an eye out for that, like we do for the bob cut?). The latest which came to my attention is Vogue Germany, the November 2011 issue. With Rosie Huntington Whiteley on the cover, Vogue Deutsch manages a smooth, yet completely unwanted transition to a GQ –ish approach of fashion (you can discover it after the jump, in the gallery) with a little help from Alexi Lubomirski.

i-D Carine Roitfeld This Fall 2011!
This is pretty special. And pretty boring at the same time. Which is amazing, given that it involves two of the most controversial fashion people of the moment: Carine Roitfeld, ex – Vogue Paris, currently freelancing anything and everything fashion and Terry Richardson. Who … well, you know who!
So Carine Roitfeld covers the Fall 2011 issue of i – D Magazine. The cover tagline says Dream Big. And I do. I really do, because this cover is really dull and not helping my fashion inspiration today. Does it help yours? (photo via)

Kate Moss lands Emmanuelle Alt’s second cover for Vogue Paris
Everyone seems to have an affinity with Kate Moss and Emmanuelle Alt is no different. For her second issue of Vogue Paris as the new editor-in-chief has cast Moss to feature on the May cover. It seems appropriate, especially since Moss also covered Carine Roitfeld’s first issue for Vogue Paris back in February 2001.
For her début issue at the helm, Alt opted for Gisele Bundchen in what we regarded as a fairly safe move – feminine, floaty, etc. Now with this latest cover, it’s interesting to see her play it up a bit with hands pulling at Moss’s jacket from every direction. Two covers, two supermodels, I wonder whether Alt is going to stick to the supermodels for a while or whether she’ll mix it up with some celebrities. We’ll see…
