All On the Line: Go Wild

How many times have you sat at your desk and wondered what you were doing sitting at a desk? Well, at 40, Julie Alarcon stopped asking herself that question and got up. She ditched her career in business, which had culminated at the Pittsburgh Zoo, and went back to school for fashion, which led to her company, Lialia.
She admittedly lives in, and loves, to create fantasy worlds—many of them around nature (enter Pittsburgh Zoo). “There’s a wild sea of imagination going on in my mind.”
And it shows in her newest designs, which take patterns inspired from crocodiles and hibiscus, and are then broken down into elegant, abstract shapes and colors. The hibiscus dress hugs the body in cotton and viscose blends while the crocodile one grazes a woman’s curves in silk charmeuse. She clearly approaches her designs as art work, which has worked both for and against her.

Titled Muse, Dita’s line is described as “classic retro-glamour,” comprising of vintage-inspired dresses and a tulle-layered trench coat. Each piece incorporates couture detailing, in-built corsetry, silk Crepe de Chine lining and grosgrain ribbon to cinch in the waist.
The Dita Von Teese Muse collection will be available in sizes 8 to 20 and sold only via David Jones in Australia from November.
Who needs skinnies? Bootcut jeans are still the UK’s top sellers
Young fashion stores might be ramming skinnies, boyfriend cuts and cuffed crops onto the shelves, but when it comes to jeans shopping, it would appear the average UK shopper knows exactly what she wants!

An infographic (click it to view full size) released by ebay UK compares sales of various womens jeans styles on the auction site. With over 3,100 pairs of jeans selling on ebay daily, they’re definitely in the know when it comes to what women want. One style in particular – bootcut – has proven to be the frontrunner, with 793,289 pairs selling in the last year. This is miles away from the closest rivals (Straight leg and Skinny) at around 215,000 pairs each.
It might not be the most fashion-forward shape, but obviously the women of Britain are more keen on a jeans style that flatters than a fast fashion alternative.

Kettlebells and stilettos
Body heat gushing out the cheeks, heartbeat running at a thousand miles and a perspiring body – exercising is painful for some and uplifting for others. But newsflash – it’s been upgraded to a la mode status.
Exercising and fashion have a relationship that isn’t identified to many. Just as sweat glands get an undue attention soon after an hour-lengthy energy walk, you wouldn’t expect the cut, fabric and texture of your fitness center gear obtaining a comparable appeal. Unless you step out of hair and make-up and prep up your inner gym enthusiast for a photo shoot.
Tastefully snapped by Cecilia Austin, this editorial is as close as you’d get to see style and sport in the identical room. Properly, unless you are at Wimbledon watching all the women’s matches. But even that has its dull moments.
