Lay Off Ladies Day! The Grand National at Aintree splits the fashion vote

These days is Ladies Day at Aintree racecourse as Liverpool hosts the John Smith’s Grand National. Often the most colourful occasion on the racing calendar, it’s an excuse for girls to glam up, pop on the most significant fascinator they can find and take pleasure in a day of bubbles and betting.
Unfortunately what also comes with a trip to Ladies Day is the paparazzi’s annual race to snap the most overdressed Scouser so the tabloids can post photographs for people to laugh at the next day. It is so simple to become part of the sneering masses, with papers selecting the most unflattering shots potential to illustrate the point that, as far as they’re concerned, class is going to hell in an (more than-embellished) handbasket, someplace close to the Runcorn Bridge.
But is there truly any harm in these girls slapping on the fake tan and dressing up for a day out? Would folks rather Ladies Day was nothing but a parade of boring shift dresses, sensible heels and the very same three M&S fascinators? Liverpool is a city exactly where (if you believe reality Tv shows) eyebrows are a work of art and it’s ok to step out on a Saturday afternoon with your rollers in, in preparation for an evening out in your new frock from Cricket. Scouse ladies like to have enjoyable with fashion and glam up, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Kate Young on Stylists as Celebrities, Dressing Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams for the Oscars and Her New Gig For I.N.C.
Kate Young was not too long ago named one particular of “Hollywood’s Most Effective Stylists” by the Hollywood Reporter and right after one look at her celebrity clientele, it’s effortless to see why. She dresses Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman and Rachel Weisz, to name a few, all individuals on whom we’ve come to rely for spot-on best red carpet looks. This also means that, thinking about it’s awards season and two of her customers are really significantly a part of that, Kate is super busy. Nevertheless, she discovered time for one more new project.
She’s the latest INC Editor at Large for Spring/Summer 2012 at Macy’s. She follows inaugural INC Editor at Significant Anna Dello Russo and her duties are a bit vague, as these of an ‘Editor at Large’ tend to be. What we know for positive is that they incorporate styling the new INC collection, which you can peruse beneath, and a hip party thrown in her honor, which took location yesterday evening at Le Bain. We stopped by to chat with the super stylist about that gig, plus the attention celebrity stylists have been getting lately, dressing Natalie and Michelle for the Oscars and other upcoming projects, like Natalie’s next Dior campaign (!).
What appealed to you about the INC campaign?
I think that Macy’s and INC, they’re enormous brands and the thought of one thing that reaches so a lot of men and women is exciting to me and I really feel like they work with truly fascinating individuals like stylists and photographers in the past, so that was appealing. I style factors all the time, so the idea of styling some thing and generating it much more public was appealing to me, too and getting it be controlled. A lot of celebrity stylists now, men and women talk about and write about in a way that they didn’t for years and years and years, so the notion that it’s a sort of controlled arena appealed to me.

Shipley & Halmos Fête Aaron Stern
Duck Sauce, Coachella Aaron Stern
New York’s stylish renaissance man, Aaron Stern has released a book filled with his original riotous photography. Everybody Ought to Be Announced—named for the self-explanatory signs discovered in New York’s doorman buildings—was really a collaboration between Stern and designers Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos by way of their pet-project S&H Publishers. In Stern’s words, “[It really is] sort of a photo essay about the symbiotic relationship between a performer and their crowd.”
Although the book was initially Shipley and Halmos‘s idea, its concept was born at Coachella. A conversation with The Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr. influenced Stern to pay closer attention a performance’s audience rather than the antics caught on-stage. ”[Albert] told me that all he saw in the 1st couple of rows was just a sea of metal devices, and he wondered if the audience was missing out on the show,” Stern said “[The audience] themselves were type of performing, announcing themselves on social media and saying ‘look at me,’ kind of like what the performer was doing.”
From there, Stern and the Shipley & Halmos boys peeled by way of the photog’s extensive imagery archive, deciding on pictures that greatest represented a lively and announcing audience, with Stern filling in the holes at some of this summer’s most-buzzed-about concerts from artists like Sleigh Bells and The Kills.
Meet the New Girl: Cora Emmanuel Thought Modeling Was ‘Stupid’

Martinique has been a hotbed for modeling talent lately: First came Sigrid Agren, then Melodie Monrose, and now Cora Emmanuel. Twenty-year-old Emmanuel came off a successful spring 2012 season, modeling for Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, and Tommy Hilfiger in New York. But her biggest coup was being selected by casting director John Pfeiffer for the opening and closing looks in Bottega Veneta’s spring collection. Most recently, Emmanuel was invited to Anna Wintour’s house to model for Fenton Fallon’s collection for the CFDA. We met with the multilingual teen to hear about how her mom convinced her to enter a modeling contest just after a piano lesson.
Tell us a bit about your childhood.
I did a lot of bad stuff. I definitely was not a quiet child. Honestly, I was kind of annoying. I have one older sister and a younger half-brother. My father was an architect, but now he’s teaching architecture. Before modeling, I wanted to become an architect because my father inspired me. My mother is a history and geography teacher.
Fendi’s Tiniest Models
Photo: Fendi
A few months ago, Fendi showed their Fall ’11 kids collection with a runway show in Italy. We had to settle for a Youtube video. Of course, nothing compares to seeing it in person—and Fendi must have heard our prayers because last night, they sent a batch of local toddlers down a runway right here at their 5th Avenue store. Fendi was not playing around—they erected a real catwalk, pseudo-photo pit and gave us a backstage exclusive.
The backstage area looked surprisingly similar to a real one, minus the champagne (only for the moms!), cigarette smoke and makeup. There were, however, rolling racks with hangers and zip locks bearing models’ names, and a line of well-dressed and antsy boys and girls, ready to get this thing over with. We spoke to a few of the “models” and learned that they really liked their outfits, but did not get to keep them and most had never modeled before. We asked one why they were all barefoot and she explained, “because it’s SPRING clothes!!”
Based on what we were told, the little fashionistas (and fashionistos) were children of frequent Fendi shoppers and people involved with the blog, Divalysscious Moms, who co-hosted the event along with Gossip Girl’s Kelly Rutherford, who opened the show with her own two children. The show itself was too adorable for words and the kids had tons of fun. Afterward, they got balloons and headed downstairs for an after-party with cupcakes, more champagne and a DJ.
