The Met Gala Preview – who’s dressing who!

Met Gala Doutzen%20copy thumb 470x700 134273 The Met Gala Preview whos dressing who!

If the CFDA Awards are the Oscars of style, The Met Gala is the prom. It’s all about who’s going with whom. The annual occasion, which celebrates a yearly fashion-centric exhibit at The Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, is co-hosted by Vogue Magazine and fashion royalty attends accordingly. This year’s exhibit is “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” highlighting the styles of two legendary lady designers – Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada. Obviously, we can anticipate a lot of Prada. But who else will fashion’s stars be wearing? Here’s who we know is attending together (which implies the designer will dress the star).

Alexander Wang and Azealia Banks
Erdem Moralioglu and Arizona Muse
Rachel Zoe and Karolina Kurkova
Thakoon Panichgul and Christina Ricci
Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing and Joan Smalls
Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez with Isabel Lucas
Joseph Altuzarra with Lana Del Rey
Michael Kors with Kate Upton, Liu Wen, Hilary Swank and Jessica Alba
Haider Ackermann and Constance Jablonski

This takes care of a lot of top models, but what of the entertainment celebrities? Give us the goods!

At final night’s dinner celebrating Balmain‘s newfound interest in social media, Olivier Rousteing was gushing about his date to the Met Ball.  “She could wear a white t-shirt, and I would be so proud,” he mentioned of Joan Smalls.  The model’s topped fashion’s favorites list for virtually two years now and is the finest arm candy a guy could ask for, but she won’t wear a white t-shirt (even even though she could pull it off).   She hasn’t, even so, picked a dress.  “We will know Monday!”

Rousteing didn’t invite Smalls solely since she’ll look perfect in something, but because he really really likes talking to the model.  Turns out she’s as smart and interesting as she is beautiful—and these issues matter when you’re sitting next to an individual at a four hour dinner.  As for the designer himself—Rousteing may be the most charming, genuine and downright bubbly designer we’ve ever met—he says he will wear a “bow.”  He hasn’t worn a single because childhood, but figures his 1st Met Ball demands some thing particular.

Who says French style is stuffy? Although our WordPress was busy crashing yesterday, the house of Balmain was kicking off its own social media initiatives.

Though the brand’s been by way of its fair share of ups and downs more than the past few years—from setting the industry’s trends to seeming incapable of doing one thing fresh, and losing its inventive director along the way—it’s placed its fate in the adorable Olivier Rousteing.

The 26-year-old designer’s proven that yes, he can style hit Balmain collections and, based on this video, develop a relationship with fans of the brand. He promises a behind the scenes appear at his seasonal inspirations and the production of each and every collection, as properly as an intimate appear at his atelier.

Balmain Spring 2012 RTW | ELLE

According to Vogue, Balmain‘s Spring 2012 looks had been inspired by “Las Vegas, cowboys, and matadors” and as crazy as it sounds, all of these components blended together perfectly to develop an wonderful spring collection.

This was designer Oliver Rousteing’s very first collection for the Parisian-based fashion house and he expertly juxtaposed the label’s signature edgy pieces with Western components — like chambray, fringe and oversized belt buckles — to create ensembles with a unique cowboy-meet-rocker vibe.

Want to Look Like Emmanuelle Alt? Try Pierre Balmain’s Fall Collection

Pierre Balmain, the more gently priced secondary line from Balmain, launched its second ever collection in Paris this week. The appear is very Emmanuelle Alt (even though she once styled Balmain’s shows, she has nothing at all to do with the line): Skinny black pants (in leather or denim), an ultra-soft tee, and blazers with strong shoulders. When you want to mix it up–a leather motocross jacket. There’s a little added glitz for fall in some sequined leggings, and a bit of Jane Birkin in the far more flowy pieces (as you can see in the above video). And there’s a little hint of Carine Roitfeld in that extremely sexy sheer dress. So basically if you want to look like a chic French “It” girl–here you go.

Check out Pierre Balmain for fall.

If Isabel Marant‘s fall collection, which debuted in Paris yesterday, looks familiar, it’s because Marant’s not the designer who tries to reinvent herself every season. Perhaps far more desirable, particularly to the hundreds of buyers packed into the Couvents de Courdeliers, she just offers her buyers what they want.

So Marant took her tried and true favorites and turned up that western flair she loves so much. There was the pale pink and burgundy color palette that dominated her spring 2011 collection, the mini-dress-meets-boot silhouette that pops up year right after year and the suede fringe that created last fall’s collection so identifiable. Like Olivier Rousteing at Balmain, she utilised embroidered pink roses to invoke traditional cowboys. And to round it out, a slew of white boho tops and dresses for those nonetheless hankering for a slice of Sienna Miller’s style (circa 2004).
