Would You Wear… Sandal Boots?

As the weather (finally!) warms up, us college girls have to rethink our footwear options. It’s too warm to wear boots, yet it’s still a bit too chilly to wear sandals. This past fashion week may have delivered the perfect compromise: the sandal boot. This all-encompassing term, which comprises numerous trends from the past few seasons, is either a flat, wedge, or high-heeled boot with a big peep-toe or plenty of the foot showing.
Sandal boots were everywhere at fashion week including Kenzo, 3.1 Philip Lim, Helmut Lang, and Kenneth Cole. Even though they may not be practical for traipsing through the snow, they would be perfect for summertime. These stompers are statement-makers, so be sure to rock them with confidence!
Anne Hathaway apologises for Oscars dress, Audrey Hepburn resurrected, plus more

All of the latest news is right here for your reading pleasure:
- In a strange move, Anne Hathaway has issued a public apology for choosing to wear a Prada dress to the Oscars. The actress, who was meant to wear a Valentino design, said she decided to switch dresses because it came to her attention late on Saturday night that there would be another dress worn which was “remarkably similar” to the Valentino dress. Frankly, she might have been better off sticking to her original plan. We were mightily underwhelmed by her weird boob-shaped, pink satin Prada number. But really, was a public apology necessary? [WWD]
- In an even stranger move, Audrey Hepburn has been brought back to life thanks to a new advertising campaign to promote Galaxy chocolate bars in the UK (watch below). The iconic actress has been reanimated with CGI and body double trickery to depict her riding a bus and eating Galaxy chocolate. If you ask me, it is disturbing not to mention disrespectful to be cashing in on a dead woman’s legacy. Sadly, it wouldn’t be the first time. Cue Charlize Theron’s commercial for Dior J’adore *shudders*. [Jezebel]
- The first stand-alone Mango Touch store will open in London today. The 900-square-foot space is located in the One New Change shopping centre in Cheapside. The store will sell slightly higher priced shoes, handbags, jewellery, sunglasses and accessories. Take a squiz lovelies! [WWD]
- Perez Hilton has announced that he has become a father. The openly gay celebrity blogger made the surprise announcement on his blog (what else?) that he has welcomed a baby boy into his family. Congrats from us! [Perez Hilton]
- Robbie Williams has launched his menswear brand, Farrell, at the premium German department store, KaDeWe. Now in its fourth season, the label is also available in 11 other stores across England, Ireland, and Italy as well as online. [WWD]
- Can’t get enough of Jennifer Lawrence at the moment? Well then perhaps you might like to bid on her on her old sweaty sports bra from her role in Silver Linings Playbook. I shit you not. [People]
Strap Up For Spring’s Gladiator Boot Battle
No swords or shields needed to accessories these arena ready shoes; marching down the runway for spring 2013, calf climbing gladiator boots turned spectators’ heads on their own. Leading designers like Versace, Alexander Wang, Altuzarra and Proenza Schouler all seemed to forget they weren’t showing at the colosseum, strapping up their models in leathery, meticulously crafted gladiator inspired sandals with sky high heels and sexy detailing. This trend’s a tough one and we can see how many would be adamant in their stance that only should Rome burn again would they even consider rocking such obscure footwear. But Anne Hathaway in those lavish vegan leather gladiator boots by Tom Ford‘s Spring 2013 collection at the New York premiere of Les Mis last December may change minds. By pairing her knee high, bondage looking heels with a gown featuring a softer material and perfectly tailored silhouette, the intensity of her shoes is offset. Keep in mind Anne’s smart styling if you’re daring enough to dress up a pair of gladiator boots this spring. Wear them with classic pieces and feminine shapes, like a fitted pencil skirt, flirty shift dress, or mid calf A- line mini, all in neutral or organic feeling textures and materials that pair nicely with leather.

2013 SAG Awards Red Carpet Highlights
Through the wind and the rain, through sun scorching heat or mind freezing temperatures, our beloved celebrities must sit pretty on the Red Carpet. And so they do, every time, without fail, like they were actually inside this huge bubble where times stops, and weather stands still and friendly.
Some winner from tonight’s 2013 SAG Awards edition were predictable, not to mention well – deserved, some were not, but notably unrewarded until now (and with that I’m looking at Daniel Day Lewis’ flawless impersonation of Lincoln who was rumoredly a favorite this Awards Season). But until the awards show was properly up and running, the Red Carpet arrivals were making some favorites of their own.
Much like the previous awards shows, this event too was less spectacular than it could’ve been – wardrobe wise. But as we see, everyone is playing safe, mostly on the dark end of the colors specter. I was a little disappointed by Morena Baccarin’s Basil and Soda dress – but then again, Morena doesn’t always go for the safest choice either. Julie Bowen’s leather dress from Johanna Johson didn’t do justice to Julie’s slender silhouette.

Movie Inspiration: Fashion Inspired by Les Misérables

Every obsession must begin somewhere. With my love for musicals, that moment came at the tender age of 6, when a visiting relative accidentally left a cast recording of Les Misérables at my house. Though the sweeping themes of redemption, love, justice, freedom, and morality went right over my little head, I was smitten.
Sixteen years later, my adoration of the play has only grown. When the film adaptation of the Broadway musical was first announced, I couldn’t decide whether I was thrilled or scandalized by the notion. However, the adaptation – in theaters now – definitely didn’t disappoint! (Although I have to say that, compared to the stage version, it’s a much more sobering experience to see scenes of horrific poverty, desperation, and violence played out in graphic realism.)
Note: we’ve previously covered fashion inspired by the stage version of Les Misérables in the Stage Inspiration series, but this post will focus on the 2012 movie adaptation.
