Girl power reigned supreme Friday night at the fifth annual Females in Film Pre-Oscar celebration. This year’s fete took location at Cecconi’s West Hollywood exactly where the Perrier-Jouët flowed. Hosted by Gwyneth Paltrow and Cathy Schulman, president of Females In Film, the event welcomed the 2012 female Oscar nominees, including The Help’s Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain.
Paltrow, who wore a Boy.by Band of Outsiders Tuxedo Inspired Jumpsuit, raised her glass to the girls. “We’re smarter than males and we’re greater than guys,” she said. And based on her personal knowledge, the Academy Award winning actress also advised the ladies to “try to keep away from those hangovers on Sunday.”
As we’re positive most of you know, the 84th annual Academy Awards were held last night, so naturally there’s lots of fabulous red carpet fashion to discuss! Preserve reading to see some of our favorite (and least favorite) looks from the 2012 Oscars.
Leading five Finest-Dressed
Here are my picks for best dressed at this year’s Academy Awards, in no distinct order:
Felix Unger famously utilised to groan “Oscar, Oscar…” If you didn’t know he had a sloppy roommate who went by that name, you might believe Felix was kvetching about the Academy Awards. In contrast to the winner of the Super Bowl or the Globe Series, “best” at the Oscars is all a matter of opinion. And depending on whom you speak to, the best doesn’t constantly win. Among movie lovers this can lead to some impassioned disagreements.
With perhaps one exception, there are no consensus favorites in this year’s significant categories. Like it or not, winning the Oscar is really significantly about timing. The apparent favorites at the finish of December frequently flag and founder by the time Oscar weekend finally rolls about. There does exist a sort of shadowy stock exchange on which the fortunes of Academy Award nominees fluctuate, even though not wildly. It is a strange and mystifying approach. Nonetheless, right here are our predictions.
Very best SUPPORTING ACTOR
If any individual this year is close to getting a shoe-in, it is Christopher Plummer as the septuagenarian who comes out of the closet in Beginners. Nick Nolte (Warriors) and Max von Sydow (Really Loud & Extremely Close) have by no means won and have sentiment on their side, but their oldster status does not help them right here simply because Plummer is also a veteran without having an Oscar. Kenneth Branagh (My Week With Marilyn) and Jonah Hill (Moneyball) received very good notices, but neither figures to seriously contend.
As we approach the middle of the madness that is awards season, we take a look at what we think makes up the A – Z of red carpet style at these big star-studded events (yes, we even found a Q and an X)…
A is for Academy Awards
The Academy Awards is undoubtedtly the biggest awards show on the red carpet calendar and thus the most glamorous. Film stars from across the globe flock to Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre to celebrate the year’s best performances, dressed in their very best couture. Designers clamour to dress nominees and presenters, as the publicity is worth millions.
