Grading the Fall Ads, Part 2
When it comes to fall ad campaigns, we’ve already seen Louis Vuitton’s sober train passengers and Prada’s video game princesses, but are you ready for Givenchy’s ravers and Balenciaga’s overdressed beach-goers?
The new crop of fall campaigns out in print and online are committed to high fashion fantasies. Forget highlighting the clothing–labels are looking to sell their brand images to consumers. You need look no further than Céline’s Juergen Teller lensed shots of Daria Werbowy to know that while the images are kind of about the clothes, they’re more about selling Daria as the dream girl you wish you were, with the wardrobe you suddenly wish you had.
Not all the ads were so successful. Even brands who paid top dollar for big name models and photographers still managed to fall a little short.
