Maggie Gyllenhaal has been in little, indie flicks (Secretary), Oscar bait (Crazy Heart), and blockbusters (The Dark Knight), but Hysteria is the very first time she’s been in a film about vibrators. The story follows a Victorian-era doctor as he comes up with a device to help ladies, and ironically he’s not the one particular who is deemed a menace to society—instead, it’s Gyllenhaal’s character, Charlotte Dalrymple, the outspoken crusader for women’s and children’s rights. With her own household growing—her second youngster Gloria was born final month—Gyllenhaal sat down with ELLE.com to speak about how becoming a mother has affected her alternative in films, and why she’s not turned on by most film sex scenes.

ELLE: This isn’t the initial time you are starring in a film that offers with female sexuality. What’s the draw for you?
Maggie Gyllenhaal: I assume everybody’s interested in sex and sexuality. I assume it’s a portion of being human, and film is an interesting spot to explore that, specifically since I think sex has been explored in film in a way that is quite unreal and very a lot based in fantasy. When I see sex scenes in movies that are real and totally free, like my personal encounter of sex, they’re so a lot sexier. I would have loved to picture that I would have been like her, but it wouldn’t have been attainable. You wouldn’t have been in a position to survive. Would I have been okay in a Victorian prison? No, almost certainly not!

ELLE: Is it tough to discover films with genuinely fantastic, powerful female leads?
MG: It is so funny, there are so handful of excellent films being produced these days, so when there’s a excellent 1, everybody wants to do it. Believe about the actresses who you assume are excellent so a lot of of them play strong, female, sexual, fascinating characters. And all of us are like, “I’ll do that a single!” Since there are so handful of. But I do discover that there are a few actresses who are my age who I genuinely respect and admire. I find as I get older, even although there’s some level of competition, it gets divided up fairly evenly. ELLE: Have you gotten pickier about the roles you take now that you have a family members?

But I do think that it’s not worth it to take my family to Romania to do some thing [just] okay. Whereas perhaps if I had no children, I’d go, I can do some thing with this. My daughter’s in kindergarten now if a person asked me to go to Romania, I’d have to place her in school or take a tutor. I mean, you have to send your kid to first grade! I do take into account now how it functions with my life and how it functions with my husband’s life and career. But each of us want to support each and every other to do issues that are genuinely fantastic, you know? I do assume that there’s one thing about becoming 25 and thinking, I’m just going to be as hardcore as I can possibly be.

Joshua Ledet

Joshua Ledet was nicknamed “Mantasia,” following Idol winner Fantasia Barrino, due to his extraordinary powerhouse vocals. This Louisiana native has a soulful, Southern choir sound that has earned him countless standing ovations from the judges and the Twitter support of many Idol alumni. Josh sticks to soulful, throwback songs each week — assume James Brown hits, and tunes by the Temptations.

Joshua Ledet’s retro flair doesn’t stop at his song choices. His style is reminiscent of a “doo-wop” singer of an earlier era, and Josh dresses to reflect that. Each week, he wears eccentric suits with classic loafers, and tops it off with a bright flower on his lapel. He has a factor for bright colors, and isn’t afraid to mix prints either.

To steal some of Josh’s style, pair a blazer with a bright blouse and classic pair of chinos. A bow tie ring and record necklace are nods to Josh’s fashion and music style. Finish with a flower brooch.

Hollie Cavanagh

Hollie Cavanagh was born in Liverpool and moved to McKinney, Texas in 2002. This petite blonde is known for her large voice, and loves to showcase it in songs by Tina Turner, Leona Lewis, Christina Aguilera, and Adele. Her sweet demeanor and gorgeous voice kept her in the competition till last week, when she went property with the 4th spot title.

Hollie belts out her power ballads wearing glitzy, glamorous dresses. Beaded bodices, chandelier earrings, and strappy stilettos comprise her signature look. Finish the ensemble with girly pink lipstick and sophisticated curls.

Heejun Han

Heejun Han of New York could be the standout character of this season’s cast – his lovely voice was frequently overshadowed by his comedic character and hilarious quips for the duration of interviews, each on an off stage. She even tackled the country version of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.” Considering that she was voted off, the show has lacked her warm demeanor and sweet Southern accent.

On stage, Skyler accented her curves by wearing A-line dresses cinched at the waist with a cute belt virtually each and every week. She added a touch of glam to every look with sparkly accessories like chunky bangles or eye-catching earrings. And no Skylar appear would be full without cowboy boots, her self-proclaimed “obsession!”

Just shortly right after appearing pregnant on i-D‘s cover—styled by her mother Carine, of course—Julia Restoin-Roitfeld has given birth to her initial child with partner Robert Konjic.

“We are delighted to confirm that Julia and Robert have had a healthy baby girl,” Next publicist Katy Moseley said in an official statement. “Both mother and daughter are performing quite well and resting at home.”

New grandmother—or “Madame,” as she reportedly prefers to be called—Carine has to jet off to Cannes shortly for the style show she’s staging, but we’re sure that, particularly considering that her initial grandchild is a girl, some child Tom Ford or Givenchy is currently getting planned.
