Why Should Dogs Get to Wear All the Cute Clothes? Introducing CatAtelier!

We currently know there are cat fashion bloggers so it follows of course that there would also be cat fashion designers.
A couple of days ago, a friend of mine (who certainly knows me genuinely nicely) linked me to an Etsy shop known as CatAtelier, which, naturally, sells a delightful assortment of very carefully crafted ties, neckpieces and hats for felines. Both the quality of these designs and the reality that this existed totally blew my thoughts and I had to know far more. So, I reached out to the obviously talented designer for an interview and she obliged. It turns out Julie Song went to Parsons and has a BFA in illustration as nicely as a quite obedient cat. Click by way of to see her wonderful designs and learn more about who she is, how and why she got into feline fashion style, and her plans to branch out into cat clothes!
Fashionista: What is your fashion/design background?
Julie Song: I went to Parsons School of Design, and I have my BFA in Illustration. I was initially organizing to be a children’s book illustrator, but I changed my mind right after senior year. I have been sewing because I was young, but it took a while to understand that I preferred operating with clothing and costume.
Our Super Bowl Fashion Face-Off: Tom Brady vs. Eli Manning Off the Football Field
Super Bowl XLVI is this Sunday, which will undoubtedly be the most watched television occasion of 2012. As opposed to all the glam awards shows that have been invading our living rooms most current Sunday nights, there’s no real fashion-spin we could put on the actual game. But since this is us, we couldn’t help but come up with something…
Enter our football fashion face-off in between the two opposing team’s quarterbacks: The New York Giants’ Eli Manning v. he New England Patriots’ Tom Brady. We did a little investigating into their off-the-field style – from vintage yearbook pictures, to down-time with the dogs. Football season could be coming to an finish, but fashion is naturally timeless. And neither of these guys have often been winners on the fash-field.
Disclaimer: Tom may possibly be Gisele’s baby-daddy, but that doesn’t make him the automatic winner. Click by way of to see if your pick on Sunday is also our choose for finest-dressed.
Can Modesty and Modeling Mix? Enter New Muslim Modeling Agency, Underwraps
Modeling and modesty are two words that seem mutually exclusive, but a Muslim fashion designer in New York City is trying to alter that. A new agency for Muslim models, known as Underwraps, is launching subsequent week throughout New York Fashion Week. Its goal? To prove that models can be gorgeous, stylish, and yet still preserve their religious beliefs.
Nailah Lymus is an American-born Muslim whose parents converted to Islam prior to she was born. She adheres to the modesty tenets of the religion, which demand that clothes be loose enough so as not to reveal your shape, and that generally the only body parts that can be visible are your face, hands and feet. Sound difficult? It doesn’t have to be. I chatted with Lymus this week about her background, Muslims in fashion, and her plans to launch a modeling agency.
Lymus is a self-taught designer who initially studied child improvement. Whilst interning at a boutique, she ended up designing and promoting some pieces there, and what was once a hobby suddenly got lucrative. She’s given that made it a complete time profession, and has turned her eye towards models. Especially, Muslim models.
Susan Style – Siwy Hannah in Varnish
Hi everyone! I hope you’re all off to a great begin for the new year so far. Today’s assessment is on Siwy Hannah Coated Jeans. I like the thought of the entire leather and waxed denim trend, but I had yet to find a pair that was specifically what I was looking for. That is, till I located these. These are Siwy Hannah Coated Jeans. I’m certainly a fan of Siwy Jeans, specifically the Hannah style. So I currently knew I’d like the cut on these jeans. I wasn’t positive about the coated appear. But as soon as I saw these in individual, I fell in really like.
I discover that a lot of of the other types are either too waxy, too shiny, or too costly (some of the leather skinnies are upwards of $ 800+). These are a wax coated style jean, but I like that they aren’t incredibly waxy looking. They have a a lot more subtle wax coated finish to them. And I like that they are not as overly shiny as some of the other coated denim that I’ve observed about. The color is called Varnish which is a deep burgundy color.
These are a 5 pocket style. The rear pockets have Siwy’s signature quilted design. The rise measurement is 6 ¾ inches, leg opening is 10 inches, and the inseam is 28 inches. (Measurements may vary slightly among diverse sizes.) These have a far more cropped fit, hitting well above my ankles which I really like. I prefer my skinnies to be far more cropped or at least hit just at my ankles. I do not like when my skinny jeans have too much bunching at the bottom hem. It’s a individual preference.

Watch: Madonna, M.I.A., Nicki Minaj Channel Cheerleaders and Vintage Madonna in ‘Give Me All Your Luvin’

Whether or not you really like her or hate her, we can all probably agree that after practically 30 years in the music biz, Madonna can make 1 hell of a music video. Case in point: Her most recent video for single “Give Me All Your Luvin’” starring Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., and of course the material girl herself.
The video begins with the following words written across the screen: “Fans can make you renowned, a contract can make you wealthy, the press can make you a superstar, but only luv can make you a player.” Then the curtains fly open and voila, Madonna is working the stage in all her age-defying glory, wearing a crop top, leopard bra and enormous cross.
Nicki Minaj and M.I.A function the cheerleader look–we’re especially fond of Minaj’s Adidas logo boobs–while a troupe of faceless football players carry Madge around the city–sometimes breaking by way of walls and splitting cabs in half. Could this be a tribute to Sunday’s Super Bowl? Who knew Madonna was such a football fan!

Minka Kelly In 7 For All Mankind Jeans
I got a feeling of deja-vu when I saw these images this morning, Minka Kelly certainly has a pretty constant personal style since if you compare the outfit in these photos with the 1 published earlier nowadays, you will see – very same bag, similar blouse, very same wedges and related bootcut jeans. This time the jeans are by 7 For All Mankind rather than AG Adriano Goldschmied.
Are Fashion Internships Fundamentally Unfair? Industry Insiders Weigh In
Former Harper’s Bazaar intern Xuedan Wang’s suit against Hearst for violating state and federal wage and hour laws has certainly got people in the market talking.
One particular thing in certain that’s stood out is neither the unsavory working conditions of unpaid internships (read: lengthy hours, menial tasks, putting up with critical attitudes), nor the lack of compensation (regardless of whether by stipend or college credit) but the truth that, as Wang’s lawsuit states, “the prevalence of the practice nationwide, curtails opportunities for employment, [and] fosters class divisions among those who can afford to perform for no wage and those who can’t.”
Internships can be a great way to break into the industry–actually we’d argue that they’re pretty considerably the only way to break into the sector (so far, anyway–all of us right here at Fashionista, save Leah, started as Fashionista interns 1st). But could fashion’s heavy reliance on unpaid interns be generating an unfair disadvantage for children who don’t have their parents’ income to back them up? We asked a number of market insiders, all former interns who now function at significant publishing houses, and even though none would go on the record (out of worry that their publishers are now targets for these kinds of suits), the common consensus was a resounding yes.
