Adventures in Copyright: The Burberry Store in China Vs. the ‘Buebelly’ Store in China Edition
On the left, a Burberry store in Beijing On the right, um, Buebelly
China has often been known for its designer knockoffs and lately complete knock off retailers have been cropping up in large cities.
My friend Shane is at present living in China, and thankfully he likes to regale me with crazy tales about Chinese models and karaoke. Today’s update? This photo of a store situated in Shenzhen named “Buebelly,” which is naturally meant to imitate Burberry. There are apparently other “off-brand” retailers, as he supplied, “I could possibly get you some Lobotoms also, and possibly a nice Pendi bag?” The very best component is that across from this shopping center is a mall which contains all the brands these retailers hope to steal enterprise from.
As Shane says when he finishes these stories, “Because China.” What else is there to say?
