Fashionable Swimsuits: Russia’s Synchro Swimsuits Inspired By Miu Miu Print
Today, while browsing the interwebs looking for something Olympics – related (because, you know, it’ll be over soon), I found the most fash – interesting piece over at the Frockwriter (where there’s always something nice to read).
What was it about? Well the Russian Olympics synchro swimmers costumes! Needless to say, synchro swimming is all around spectacular, without making it about fashion. However! The Russian team had these pretty doll faces prints on their swimsuits.

Would You Wear… a Wicker Purse?

Patio furniture, picnic baskets, and… purses? While wicker may not traditionally be thought of as a celebrity-approved accessory material, it has recently been spotted on big name celebs like Rachel Weisz and Florence Welch. Even Karl Lagerfeld, arguably the most notable trendsetter out there, sent woven straw bags down the runway.
Wicker purses are very summery, but the style may also be able to transition into fall. Florence Welch (pictured above-right) wore hers to a recent music festival, and we couldn’t like it more on her! So the question that begs an answer is: can the wicker purse trend translate from celeb style to college campuses?
Grab a dress from Rare for £10
Usually by the time clearance sales get to the ‘£10 an under’ stage, you’re lucky if anything is available in anything except a size 6. But Rare appears to have loads of stock of its bargain sale items, with most of the pieces reduced to £10 still available in plenty of sizes.
These are the perfect bargains to supplement at Summer holiday wardrobe or for cheap nights out when you can’t afford the latest drop at Topshop. They’re very ‘young fashion’ though – with the exception of a couple of maxis, hemlines are high and cuts are super-skimpy. Pick from plenty of skater dresses in various colours and textures, loads of one-shoulder numbers, and lots and lots of bodycon.

Paige – Muted Prints For Fall 2012
As fall arrives, we all get into a more sedate and muted mood. Like: summer is over, let’s get back to reality, which means cold, dark and well, muted. Paige is making this transition easier for us – at least we will have beautiful and different kinds of jeans to wear. The prints include black and white and sepia, as well as houndstooth and – new, the printed cords. My only complaint is – “why didn’t you make at least one or two slouchier or even boyfriend fits, Paige?” I imagine that there are lots of women out there who would prefer a less tight and less superskinny fit, like me. I think a houndstooth print would be perfect for doing a boyfriend style pair of jeans!

Synchronized Swimming Style: An Appreciation Post
At the Olympics, it’s gymnastics– the leotards, the hair, and the makeup–that seems to get all the style attention. And it’s not hard to see why–I mean, we’re completely mesmerized. However, there’s another sport at the Games that just so happens to have outfits sparklier and more outlandish than gymnastics and it’s fast become our favorite sport to watch style-wise. Yes, we’re talking about synchronized swimming.
Synchro is a lot like gymnastics in that the ladies wear glittered-out unitards, slicked back hair (they actually use gelatin) and loads of makeup. But for whatever reason (to get attention? something to do with water?) the swimmers seem to go even more balls-out with their getups. They usually stick to a theme, which always makes things interesting–this Games’ themes ran the gamut from wild animals, to flowers, cash money, creepy dolls and even Michael Jackson (seriously). Synchro swimmers have to load on the waterproof makeup in order to really make an impression underwater and they usually top off their looks off with some sort of hair jewelry. The result? Outfits that inspire and amuse.
Oh, and also, anyone who gets up in front of millions of people, smiling and wearing one of those nose plug thingies deserves our respect.
