Ravel’s Bolero
Yep, you’re reading that right! And I plan on convincing you that you actually need a break from all that pop’n breezy easy music! With an impressive, cascading, flawless, limitless, just perfect Bolero by Ravel; because this is exactly what you need! Because this week’s break is special. It’s July’s last weekend, let’s make the best of it!
Ravel’s Bolero is one of the pieces of music I find to be irresistibly moving, strong and engaging. It’s like a living thing taking hold of me. I can’t listen to it and keep calm. I can’t even keep my eyes open: I just close them and let my imagination fly (quite like Mr Bean playing Chariots of Fire at the keyboard for the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics 2012! – yep, I watched it! Wink).
Ready? It’s on for about 7 minutes, it’ll give you plenty of time to dream! Just close your eyes, feel this perfect music within you and… just slide! (Fight Club, anyone?)
Black Orchid F/W 2012 Lookbook
Mr. Sexy (staff agrees), Julien Jarmoune, did it again. And then we think plus sexy? Pas possible! Non ça va, and voilà! We get stunned with another sex pot collection from Black Orchid. It’s not that there aren’t many other sexy jeans around, but somehow, Julien combines the French “savoir faire” with the American “show your booty” and here you have it!
This coming season, Julien is playing a lot with leather and other extras, like insets, detailed stitching and patching. And of course, the prints. And, of course, the knife pockets! Black Orchid seems to be the only brand around that offers super sexy jeans with KNIFE pockets, Something nearly impossible to achieve. Usually these pockets end up developing a life of their own, sticking out and making you look fat and frumpy LOL.
Je t’aime, Julien. Et j’aime Black Orchid!

Kate Middleton wears Christopher Kane to Olympics opening ceremony
It was a fashion-off at Buckingham Palace overnight. The Duchess of Cambridge and Michelle Obama attended an evening event at Buckingham Palace, before arriving at the opening ceremony for the London Olympic Games.
For her part, Kate Middleton represented her love of UK fashion by choosing a design by Christopher Kane. What she opted for was a custom-made pale blue satin fitted coat dress. Made up by several pieces of panelling, the frock also included long sleeves, slanted pockets and a thin waist belt.
The dress was an interesting choice, especially since Kane told WWD in November last year that he wished the Duchess wore more designer clothing. “It’s a shame she doesn’t wear more designers,” he said. “I don’t really like the High Street getting so much of the credit. I understand that there would be an array because you need to relate to so many people in the market, but she is a princess. If I were a princess, I’d be like, ‘Oh yeah, bring it on.’”
Wanna Shag a Trustafarian with a Dodgy Barnett? butter LONDON Improves Your Tips, Toes & British Slang this Fall
As a backstage staple at Fashion Week shows like Victoria Beckham, Calvin Klein, Betsey Johnson, Altuzarra, Matthew Williamson & Rolad Mouret, butter LONDON translates the trends each season into yummy little bottles. For fall, they took all those textured tweeds, rich velvets, sexy satins & sizzling sequins & turned them into irresistible shades brimming with glitter, metallics & future-forward holographic finishes.
Choose from *Lovely Jubbly*, Brit speak for a stroke of good luck or good news that’s also doing double duty as a 70s disco’ish metallic magenta; the golden-holographic sage green *Trustafarian* (spoiled rich kid who pretends to be a hippie while letting the ‘rents pay the bills); charcoal *Gobsmacked* (being rendered speechless); warm orange-burgundy *Shag* (yeah, baby, yeah); and *Dodgy Barnett*, both a highly holographic gray-silver & a seriously terrible coiffure….think awful mullet.

Summer Fridays: On Vacation with Anna Sui
It’s summer and that means on Fridays everyone should be sneaking out of work a little bit early to go on a weekend jaunt or grab a drink on a sunny rooftop. The fashion industry, which works really hard, also knows how to cut loose and play hard. In our new weekly column, called Summer Fridays, we catch up with industry insiders to find out what they do, where they go, and what they bring with them when they escape the daily grind. Last week we jetted off with the duo behind Timo Weiland. This week, we’re catching up with designer Anna Sui. Bon voyage!
Anna Sui is one of the few American designers who’ve earned the highly coveted Lifetime Achievement Award from the CFDA. Her signature boho-inspired looks with a tough girl edge has earned her a dedicated worldwide following of fans who flock her stand alone stores to purchase a part of the Sui empire: apparel, accessories, shoes, fragrances and a Barbie, to boot.
Now estimated to be worth over $ 400 million, the Parsons grad—-whose friends Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista helped walk in her first ever show in 1991—-can now relax and do things she loves, like travel. That includes shopping her way through India, Turkey, Thailand, and Egypt–and riding some elephants and eating some kangaroo, too. We’ll let her explain…
Bike Like A Fashionista!
We talked about this before – about what to wear while biking around! But fashion people know best and we got it all wrong so far. Let’s join hands humbled by our fashion ignorance and praise this unique vision of biking perfection!
