One Rock Legend’s Daughter To Play Another Rock Legend

Mickey Sumner, the 28-year-old daughter of music icon Sting, has been cast to play an additional music icon: Patti Smith. Sumner, who did a six-episode stint on The Borgias final year, will play Smith in the upcoming rock film CBGB, centering on the rise of the legendary New York club where acts like Speaking Heads, and The Ramones got their commence. She joins the likes of Malin Akerman, who’s set to play Debbie Harry, and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who is creating his acting debut as Iggy Pop. Filming is set to get underway later this month, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

2012 CFDA Award winners: The Olsens scoop top prize!
The Olsen twins have beat out Marc Jacobs to win the prime prize at the 2012 CFDA Awards. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have taken out the prestigious award for Womenswear Designer of the Year for their label The Row by the Council of Style Designers of America. Wearing dresses they they had developed themselves, the mini fashion moguls joined Billy Reid, who scooped the gong for Menswear Designer of the Year on the winners walk.
Other recipients incorporate Reed Krakoff for Accessories Designer of the Year, while the Swarovski Awards for Emerging Talent went to British shoe designer Tabitha Simmons for accessories, Phillip Lim for menswear and Joseph Altuzarra for womenswear.
Bloggers Scott Shumann, a.k.a. The Sartorialist and Garance Dore (also a true-life couple) were provided the Media Award and Tommy Hilfiger was honoured with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. Presenting him with the award was Anna Wintour who mentioned: “I admire him as significantly for who he is as what he has completed.”

The CFDA Awards Celebrate Fifty Years of American Fashion

“Contrary to common belief, I was not at the a single fifty years ago,” Michael Kors joked whilst entering final night’s CFDA Awards, which celebrated the organization’s fiftieth anniversary. It’s CFDA Awards day! The Met Ball may be a fashion spectacle of epic proportions, but the CFDA awards is truly about the individuals that make the style (and their hot model dates). All kidding aside, it is a day for the sector to come together and celebrate itself and the creations of its members.
